If you get into your BIOS configuration, there should be an option to
disable PNP OS - sometimes PNP being enabled will cause problems with
the kernel - and with devices such as network cards or sound cards (and
more)...so by disabling PNP OS in BIOS, you might find that some devices
work that otherwise would not with the PNP OS enabled...
