Stick with Red Hat's rpm, if you've never compiled and setup sendmail before, its pretty good and secure by default, you will have remove the port daemon 127.0.0.1 option if you want to accept email from anyonre other than localhost in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > Secondly..I saw some postings on google talking about never ever opening > up port 25 and just using port 110 (pop3). If I want to email anyone Yes you need 25 for SMTP, if you want to get inbound Emails you'll need an SMTP daemon like sendmail. > I looked at the howto page for sendmail but its WAY out of date. > Anything current would be appreciated. rpm -ivh sendmail* (and MAKE sure you get the updates, the latest was released by RH a week ago) change the above mentioned port thingy 'dnl' is your comment starter Not sure if its still in by default but make sure define(`confAUTO_REBUILD')dnl is commented ou5t, ie: dnl define(`confAUTO_REBUILD')dnl Good idea to make sure FEATURE(`accept_unresolvable_domains')dnl is also dnl FEATURE(`accept_unresolvable_domains')dnl > Not related, but Im using RH 7.3 once you've done the above as your on 7.3 run this: m4 /etc/mail/sendmail.mc > /etc/sendmail.cf in /etc/mail access put in your domain with a RELAY like: yourdomain.com <TAB> RELAY then : service sendmail restart and your off and running :) > Do you recommend updating to RH 9.0 ?? Im afraid to ruin a good thing > cuz when I went to 8.x last time I had so many problems I gave up. 7.3 will cease to be supported as of the end of this year so give some thought to it, if you only have a server, sure upgrade to 9 its painless from 7.3 or was for us with our mail/web/dns/news/ftp servers just make sure you have a backup of your data, but you shouldnt need to be reminded of that <G> -- Regards, Res Network Administrator Postmaster / Abusemster / Flamemaster http://www.ausics.net Australian Hosting Services -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
