Have you tried:

Compiling with the following:
- raid choices as modules
- initrd support
- the scsi adapter as a module

Make the necessary initrd image

edit /etc/lilo.conf as necessary

run lilo with the -v option?  (That way it warns you of obvious errors)

Reboot again.

Also, are you using 'make boot' or 'make bzImage'?  The 2.2 kernel winds up
being too big for lilo to handle if you use 'make boot', but lilo won't
warn you about it unless you use the -v switch.  (Apologies if you're
already aware of this, I'm just trying to cover all the bases.)

Unfortunately my test server is not in the same place I am.  I'll try my
own kernel later when I have access to the machine.
