    With different brand/model cards, the cards are discovered in the order the
kernel loads up the driver - and you can change that order.  With identical
cards, then it _usually_ discovers them in order of the bus.  I have one server
with 4 Intel Pro 100+ cards in it, and they're loaded top to bottom (when
looking at the back of the server) - top being eth0.
