I never want to rip my collection again (i have about 800) so i encoded to FLAC for when i get my SBs (they are on back order), Ogg for my Rio Karma and MP3 for my SonyEricsson K750i and any other device.
It might take a bit to get set up, but i would be inclined to use Exact Audio Copy for the ripping and store as FLAC and MP3. Take a look at MAREO (http://www.webearce.com.ar/) which lets you rip once and encode to just about anything as many times are you want.
