I would think that it should be possible to eliminate mp3tag from the tool chain? Also there is a plugin for Picard that fetches covers from Amazon, and another which calculates track- and album replay gain. Finally, if you go the Musicbrainz route please consider putting some effort into editing/adding information to Musicbrainz when necessary. It is for the benefit of "the rest of the world", including yourself if you need to retag at some point in time.
