Then again, there may be one or two of us who are completely new to the

Perhaps the more experienced members here could enlighten us?
The purpose of this list is to support the ROM distribution. If ROM were
released in this century, then this list would likely be a web-based forum. :)
Sadly, most of the old resources are no longer. Here are some snippets:
http://www.algonet.se/~rnen/mud/nfcode.html
http://thevedic.net/mud/new/
http://islands.freehosting.net/snippets.html
http://olc.wolfstream.net/
http://the-infinite.org/archive/
http://ftp.game.org/cgi-bin/directory?/pub/mud
these two are new, but promising:
http://www.mudbytes.net/
http://www.mudsnippets.net/
and some general (required) reading:
http://www.raphkoster.com/gaming/index.shtml
http://www.mud.co.uk/richard/
There is a glaring omission above, but I'll not promote psychopaths. :)
And, btw, if you're getting list related spam, it may because he's seen
fit to include 'ROM snippets' that are complete posts from this list,
headers and all. Certainly, without my permission.
As far as options, the most common recommendation on this list is:
http://www.flugh.com/quickmud/
There are many other derivatives, including my own. I suspect the quietude
here is largely due to new IMPs starting out further down the road.
Still, I've never found these new-fangled fora to be as friendly, helpful,
or knowledgeable as the folks here, and we did have some good times. My
thanks to all, especially Gabrielle, Brian and Russ.
As always,
Sandy
PS: Sounds a bit of a eulogy, doesn't it? But you did say "sating", not
"starting". :)
