   I cut out a thin plywood roadbed and glue the parts directly on it then when 
it's all done I just screw it down to the sub roadbed so I can re-use it if 
desired. The switch blank cut to match the route automatically gives the 
guidelines for gluing down ties and figuring out the geometry. Once one has 
done a few it is very simple. If PC board ties are used at the critical points 
it basically gives the same type of switch as a jig built without the necessity 
to follow their pre-set geometry. The wooden ties give a handy spot to spike 
the rails into approximate alignment as construction proceeds and an NASG track 
gauge makes soldering to the PC ties for final alignment a snap. 
 There's a couple of photos in my "dave's stuff" photo album of switch blanks 
and partially built switch but they don't have the PC ties , just all wood. 
Substituting the PC ties doesn't take much  extra effort and makes a stronger 
switch with just a little loss of uniform appearance....dave
