   That's very mis-leading to someone who doesn't know about this stuff. You 
might find old rail at a garage sale for $1 and salvage PC material to cut your 
own ties but if he has to go buy it he's gonna pay a lot more, about $4 for 
rail and $3 for PC and wooden ties for one S sized  switch. Add to that A few 
bucks for spikes for the wooden ties, rail joiners, glue, solder, paint, etc. 
plus some kind of switch throw mechanism and frog powering switch if desired
