It cost me about $1.00 in materials to build a switch on PC ties. Most of that went for rail. Two pieces of 3' lenght rail will be enought to build a switch & some PC ties. You will need a 40 watt soldering iron, Liquid resin solder flux, resin cored solder(0.032" Dia) and a pattern. You can make your own patten with a peice of flex track, carbon paper and typing paper(20lb bond). The rest of you can spend $20.00 or more for track switches that do not fit your space requirement if you want. Myself I will build mine for about a dollar. Oh yes, My switches fit my space requirements. I have been building switches sence 1968 on PC ties without a fast track jig. Paul

I was wondering if anyone has done a calculation of the cost to build per turnout once you have the Fast Tracks tools and building jig. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated....
