I don't think anyone's suggesting we sit down, shut up and buy what's being
proposed.

However, I think we should be mindful that the Ron's, Don's and Dan's of our
little corner of model railroading are putting THEIR money on the line when
they are thinking of a new product.

For example, I would LOVE to see a Burlington O5B 4-8-4 and O1A 2-8-2in S, but
I know it ain't gonna happen. So, I chime in with something like a Russian
Decapod, which covers a personal favorite and the possibility of multiple road
offerings. Same goes for the USRA heavy/light mike's.

(And, in the interest of disclosure, an S Russian Decapod already died twice in
S. Once from a custom builder in Texas and second time from Southwind. I keep
hoping a third time would be a charm...)

Surprisingly, the RR N&W "J" was cancelled, which I thought would have been an
easy slam-dunk.

Even the PBL standard gauge Shays, while not cancelled(yet) have been dangling
out there since 2008. The latest projection is for early 2012... Well, we'll
see...

All this talk still doesn't guarantee interest or sales, however. Even
something suitable for multiple roads can have a hard time. Take a look at
River Raisin having to cut back on roads for the USRA 0-6-0. And it seems that
even then there was a possibility of the whole project being cancelled.

And yet, somehow SHS sold out of scale-wheeled B&O 2-8-0's lettered for
multiple roads. Go figure...

One has to wonder: When the SSA SD45's finally come out, how many folks are
going to go "Eeeewww, it's the wrong roadnames" and rant loud and long on about
not buying one!
