Golly...
I sure don't remember 'hitting' anyone with a comment. Then again there are
lots of things I don't remember any more. One thing I do remember quite
clearly is that on the mighty NYC I can back up a 40-car freight train all
around the mainline without derailments. Over all 305 feet of it with
upgrades, downgrades, many turnouts, level sections, tunnels, grade crossings,
etc. Credit goes to large radius curves, gentle grades, no superelevation,
decent trackwork, fully equalized trucks on everything, and a few more things
that have been forgotten.
So if some new young layout builder is looking for a oneupsmanship opportunity,
let's see if a lengthy train can be pushed around the layout without mishap.
Then you will be able to claim something quite remarkable.
