I agree that we should have some user configuration mechanism to customize 
how we build packages (including replacing sage packages with distro 
dependencies), but going about it by patching Sage or adding $DISTRO 
subdirectories everywhere are crap. Something like yaml config files (e.g. 
hashdist) is imho the way to go.
