Hi Amy, Oh my! So much to learn - and so publicly. *** Some pay good money for that! ;-) My comments were really aimed at Scott
Normally, it takes me at least a whole month before I get so much attention! What the heck - might as well introduce myself now! Hey to the rest of you on the list. I am Amy Stephen and am very interested in learning all about SchoolTool! It looks like an awesome open source tool for school districts. There is just nothing out there right now for SIS environments -- I see a lot of course management systems, but this looks very promising for the boring administrative stuff that, let's face it, you just have to have. ***Unfortunately (for our school) the project is moving very slowly - but with good reason... getting it right! We have been backed into a corner and have recently installed a UK package called SIMS by Capita (check out their history on the web!) - it's pretty dire! Operators hate it, and reporting is awful. On top of that it's nowhere near finished and yet they've stopped support for their old system :-( I have years and years in IT development. Have been working recently with Joomla - it's hot - check it out if you need a fantastic Content Management System for your schools. www.joomla.org I am from Nebraska (it's smack dab in the middle of the US.) I would be very interested in hearing about what is used to take the SIF and transform it into a database (any XML to DDL expertise out there?) I believe (?) I read SchoolTool has some level of SIF certification (man, that's not cheap.) Anyway, now, you know who I am and that I do *try* to help, if possible, but am typically kind of a bumbling fool! Some people find that rather annoying, but, my friends end up tolerating me and helping to guide me around so that I don't hurt myself, too badly. ***The inference was that the whole list was here to help! We're all learning! :-) I've been a member of this list for some time now, less active now due to other commitments, but I've never seen out-bursts like the one we've recently witnessed! Hey, this is open source, no one is owed anything and you get what you put in. And if your nice, people tend to be nice back. But as one post has implied, you get absolutely nothing for being rude. Would be interested in hearing about some of the rest of you. Scott, Adrian and I are acquainted, now. How about the rest of you? Why are you lurking about on this list? What are you doing with SchoolTool? Have a great weekend! Hope the weather's nice in the UK. Cheers! ***We ALWAYS have nice weather in the UK :-) Is just not what most of us want most of the time! :-) Nice to meet you Amy, and hopefully it'll be nice knowing you too Scott ;-) Adrian Amy Stephen PS Amy, could you turn off your RTF pretty please? Oh yeah, I'm an old fart! but into extreme sports and just taken up two martial arts as well - So coming up to about 12yo inside! :-) _______________________________________________ Schooltool mailing list [email protected] http://lists.schooltool.org/mailman/listinfo/schooltool
