One problem though ...how big or how small is one para. I think if
each one of us starts writing a note of gratitude to ARR ...most wouldnt know
when to stop  (at least I know I won't) :-)

If I had started writing all the words of gratitude and how much I cherish each
ARR song since the time I started hearing his music in 1992,I think I could
have filled pages equivalent to several volumes of Encyclopedia Britannica by
now :-)

Jokes apart ...I think this a great idea Chord..and if Gopal/Vijay ratify
it lets do it.

I don't want to do it just because this year has been the most satisfying ...I
want to do it because each year (since 1992) ...each day ..each minute ...I am
thankful for ARR's music and the fact that he made me appreciate and recognize
the wonderful world of music.

Hope Gopal doesn't consider this to be a act from us fanatics :-)

group and individually for this amazing 2008 year in which he has
given us music to cherish for a lifetime?

I know a group of you once delivered a poster to Rahman saab as a

collage with all the albums up until that point. That photo is the
logo for this group now. I'd like to do something along those lines,
but have more personal input from all his fans in this group. My
fantasy is to create a diary with messages from each of us (a

paragraph) expresing our gratitude for 2008 and of course, since Roja,
but focused more on 2008 and present it to Rahman saab as a gift at
the end of this year or the beginning of 2009. If there is a way to
do this, someone please try to take this up if possible. I would not

mind contributing money to this effort if needed. If someone else has
a better idea, or a more convenient way to express our collective
gratitude with personal input from each us, please chime in.

This is just an idea for now.

What a year this has been for us fans. The most satisfying year for
most ARR fans probably since 1999.

[arr] Dominique was soon singing for AR Rahman

2008-10-16 Thread Vithur
*Singer DOMINIQUE CEREJO feels that she is different from crooners Sunidhi
Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal*

[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Dominique Cerejo is perhaps going through the best phase of her career. The
singer has just delivered a hit song Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein from Rock On
and says since then the compliments haven't stopped.

"It's a brand new feeling. Though I've been singing for years, it's the
first time that I have received so much appreciation. It seems strange
sometimes because I am not used to all this," she says.

On a lighter note, the mother of two says that her six-year-old daughter
hasn't thought too much about the song. "She finds it very funny," says
Dominique laughing.
Dominique began her career at a young age when she was in college performing
at a prestigious 5 star night club. She then went on to wow audiences all
over the country as she toured with various gig bands.

"I have always wanted to sing though I have not received any formal training
in singing.
Whatever I learnt, it was by listening to a lot of music and a lot of
singers," she says.
Dominique was noticed by Ranjit Barot at an audition for Aladin. Since then
there was no looking back. She sang for various ad jingles and also rendered
the title track of Rendezvous With Simi Garewal. It wasn't long before
Bollywood producers came calling and Dominique was soon singing for AR
Rahman, Remo Fernandez, Anu Malik, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal Bhardwaj and
Salim-Suleiman. She has sung for films like Ek Hasina Thi, Kyon Ho Gaya Na,
Dhoom 2, Holiday, Taare Zameen Par and now Rock On.

Her interest in soul, funk, jazz and pop made it easy for her to switch from
one genre to another. However, she doesn't think that she can do full
justice to a 'mainstream Bollywood song'. "I have focused all my energy in
honing my skills as a Western singer," she says, adding, "I cannot do what
Shreya (Ghoshal) or Sunidhi (Chauhan) does. They have set the bar so high. I
don't want to go down that road. I want to sing in my own style, my own
sound and introduce that sound to the industry."

Speaking about the present music scenario in India, Dominique feels it's the
best time to be a musician. "People are opening up to newer tunes and voices
in Bollywood.
Alongside parallelly there is a separate rock music movement happening,
which is independent of Bollywood. There have never been as many rock bands
as there are today. And what's remarkable is that all these bands are aiming
for their own sounds," she signs off.

[arr] " It was an honour that Yuvraaj was offered to me" - A.R. Rahman

2008-10-16 Thread Vithur
Showman Subhash Ghai is known to do things in style. However, when it came
to launching the music of his latest magnum-opus Yuvvraaj, the filmmaker
preferred to have a more private musical (afternoon) gathering rather than a
star-studded affair.

The music launch of Yuvvraaj, which took place today (Oct 16) at a plush
five-star hotel in
Mumbaisaw
showman Subhash Ghai, music maestro A.R. Rahman, legendary lyricist
Gulzar and playback
singerAlka
Yagnik in attendance. A.R. Rahman's mother who rarely attends film
events unveiled the first CD and gave her blessings to the cast and crew of
the film.

Yuvvraaj is a musical extravaganza with 9 soul-stirring tracks composed by
Rahman and written by Gulzar. While Rahman and Mr. Ghai have worked together
earlier in
filmslike
Taal and Kisna, this is the first time that Subhashji has worked with
Gulzar. Speaking on the occasion, an ecstatic Mr. Ghai said, "The experience
has been fascinating, exciting, and unique which is one of the pleasures of
working on a film with the celebrated music maestro, A. R. Rahman. This is
the first time that I am working with Gulzar Saab and the process of
creating music is all the more wonderful and joyous. Yuvvraaj needed a
distinct sound, keeping in mind its contemporary look yet melodious
compositions; it needed to be regal and grand in its composition but at the
same time it needed to have a modern appeal, which these two magicians have
wonderfully woven together effortlessly."

Music maestro A.R. Rahman also seemed pleased with his compositions and the
way the songs have
been filmed by Mr. Ghai. "It has always been a pleasure to associate
with Subhashji on his projects. We worked on Taal, which gave me immense
creative satisfaction as a composer and it was an honor that Yuvvraaj was
offered to me. Working on the music of Yuvvraaj has been a creative
challenge for me, as Subhashji has always been associated with melodious
music and has a vast understanding about the subject. Once you have an
artistic mind like Subhashji behind you I guess everything falls rightly in
its place. Taal was a mega success and I see Yuvvraaj to be much bigger than
that."

Bhushan Kumar of T-Series (on which the music of Yuvvraaj has been released)
said, "The lethal combination of Subhash Ghai, A. R. Rahman, and Gulzar will
completely mesmerize music
lovers."

With a stellar cast comprising of Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif,
and Zayed Khan, this musical extravaganza is all set to create magic on Nov
21, 2008.

For those who have been posting -ve reviews on Yuvvraj, go chech the
ratings on planetbollywood.

Are we, who are appraising Yuvvraj, outta our mind or evolving with
rahman's innovations???

When rahman puts in his normal 'rahmanish style', some say he is
repetitive... when he innovates, some say its not rahmanish...

Evolve guys Yuuvvraj is phenomenal!!!

Re: [arr] Re: Which Raga is Manmohini? - Raag Bheempalas

2008-10-16 Thread Kamal Aakarsh Vishnubhotla
Hi!

Manmohini is based on raag "Bheempalas", whose carnatic equivalent is "Abheri".

ARR's own Bheempalas/Abheri compositions include:

1. Kannodu - Jeans - Abheri
2. Kismat se tum - Pukaar (one of the beautiful Bheempalas compsotions in Hindi
film music)
3. Radha Kaise Na Jale - beautiful indeed, Bheempalas.
4. Lucky Lucky - Rakshagan - Abheri
5. Shabba Shabba - Abheri (this is one freaky abheri, i could figure it out
initially, till i looked at the interludes)
6. Kelamal - ATM (i am not sure abt whole song but the opening tune,"Ketka
rasika paada unrai..." is abheri for sure..)

There could be more, but i remembered only these now..

worst is that it ends when its getting better... wish there was a part

group and individually for this amazing 2008 year in which he has
given us music to cherish for a lifetime?

2008-10-16 Thread nandatronics
HI ALl,

If this listing is correct then Yuvvraaj is ARR's 100th Album
because Slumdog Millionaire is not included in the list. if thats so
ARR has already reached 100 albums and its time to celebrate
:-)

Thanks and Regards,

Re: [arr] Before critizising ARR read it guys....

2008-10-16 Thread Nazri Usham
 Gyz..pls read the full post...plse..

Still even my mind hasnt started to like "Yuvraj" but i know the resion, My
brain with a very little knowledge about Music can not understand the flow and
the layers of ARR's songs in 2 or 3 even 10 or 15 listenings..im gonna giv
it some more time and wait til my brain/ mind or what ever understand the
songs...now i'm listening the songs while workin...but yeh the weekend has
come, So im gonna hear em with ma headphones, my woofers...and normal pc
speakers and find out all the very sensitive small sounds and layers and
style of Yuvraj songs...and let my little knowledge grow...i'm 1% sure i
will understand and like the whole album then...my ARR spending his whole life
for us in tryin new stuff...experimenting new sounds...but we are not ready to
giv his songs some time to grow in ushow funny we are..and how selfish we
are??

I  think we are comparing "Yuvraj" with other lbums, Specialy with Taal. Thats
why we axpect one melody number like "Nahin Samne" or "Taal se Taal", one
western classical number like "Isq bina - the fast track", and one hidusthani
number like "Isq bina - Slow one"...or some mixture of western classical and
indian music like "Lagaan", but hey...there is only one Taal, one lagan, one
Rangeela and one roja...one one one...dats is why we are his fans...Personaly
i dont want to listen to the same kind of music again and again..

This is Yuvraj...not Taal, not Lagaan, not Roja..its Yuvraj...I have
decidednow U decide

Sorry if i hurt some ones feelings,
Thank you,
Have a greate weekend,
N.M. Nazri Usham.

Re: [arr] A way for each of us to express our gratitude to Rahman Saab

2008-10-16 Thread Anil Nair
One problem though ...how big or how small is one para. I think if each one
of us starts writing a note of gratitude to ARR ...most wouldnt know when to
stop (at least I know I won't) :-)

If I had started writing all the words of gratitude and how much I cherish
each ARR song since the time I started hearing his music in 1992,I think I
could have filled pages equivalent to several volumes of Encyclopedia
Britannica by now :-)

Jokes apart ...I think this a great idea Chord..and if Gopal/Vijay
ratify it lets do it.

I don't want to do it just because this year has been the most satisfying
...I want to do it because each year (since 1992) ...each day ..each minute
...I am thankful for ARR's music and the fact that he made me appreciate and
recognize the wonderful world of music.

Hope Gopal doesn't consider this to be a act from us fanatics :-)

[arr] Yuvvraaj is 'Magical' Musical!!

2008-10-16 Thread Varun Nair
M lovin it! ... Each and every track is different and amazing sound
effects... m listening on a stereo headphones, still loving them, would love
to hear it on a surround system!! ... something like in Tu muskura.. when
Javed Goes on with the Sargams in the end.. hear him on to your right.. and
at the sametime navin on the flutes on to your left ears... this is simply
awesome..

There are many more like this amazing orchestrization in Dil Ka
Rishta

I am still not liking Shano Shano ... probably because i am not done with
the other tracks and I press the next key after a minute shano shano starts
playin... Will come back to it later !...

I dnt care if anyone disagrees to it For me

"Yuvvraaj is a Magical Musical" !

[arr] ARR is the master of the Sargam!!!!!

2008-10-16 Thread Chord
How many times did you hear "sa re ga ma pa..." runs in Yuvvraaj?
This soundtrack is full of these and I love it! So classic! He's
been incorporating these more in recent years and it seems to be
almost his signature in his compositions. No other MD uses these like
ARR. Ending of Fannah..ending of Lukkha Chuppi, first interlude
of Tere Bina.. and now the ending of Tu Muskara..just
brilliant And when ARR sings these, he does it with such ease!
It's not easy to sing these sargams so fast and so accurate His
particular sargam run in Dil Ka Rishta is mindblowing!

[arr] Yuuvraaj - TWO THUMBS UP - Planet Bollywood

2008-10-16 Thread Thulasi Ram
*Salman Khan - "When Rahman and Subhashji come together, they give you the
best music. The music of Yuvvraaj is outstanding. Its very soulful, peaceful
and carries a sweetness of its own with powerful lyrical value."*

IT'S OFFICIAL! By some astonishing miracle, 2008 WILL be a memorable year
for music. Yes indeed! But that miracle has come solely by way of *Allah
Rakha Rahman* (ARR). Because without the outstanding music of *Jodhaa Akbar,
Ada…A Way of Life* and *Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na*, the year is arguably one of
the worst in recent times littered with mediocrity and devoid of what we all
know and love to be the 'essence' of music, it's soul and passion. This is
largely due to the complacency of other music directors who have lost their
focus but let's not dwell on them. Because this is the era of Rahman and
this is the year of a maestro who has truly been a 'godsend' (no pun
intended) for all music lovers.

And thankfully there has been little delay with his latest, Subhash Ghai's
much anticipated *Yuvvraaj *, a musical about family bonds, love and the
arrogance and overconfidence of contemporary youth (sold under the banner
"everyone want's to be a rock star!"), in particular three siblings (Salman
Khan, Anil Kapoor and Zayed Khan) and a lead cellist (Katrina Kaif). So just
as with *Taal*, Rahman's music is expected to feature in a big way, says the
director:

*Subhash Ghai- "Like Taal, Yuvvraaj is based on music. I've told Rahman,
Yuvvraaj belongs to two people, Rahman and Subhash Ghai, in that order. All
the main characters are musicians in Yuvvraaj."*
Any comparisons to *Taal* are consequently inevitable but unfortunate as
that is a true classic and a perfect score in so many ways but if anyone can
do it, it's the legend himself! So having set the scene dear listener, it is
time to head towards the soundtrack and as long as you are prepared to stick
by it, another journey into musical heaven beckons….

A journey starting with Symphony No.5 (Beethoven) is setting some precedence
for the OST. The first track *Main Hoon Yuvvraaj*** does exactly that
(performed by Chennai String Orchestra) and provides a short introduction to
the movie with vocals by none other than Salman Khan himself. In this he
reveals a number of interesting cues but one thing is for sure….he is a 'bad
guy' and *he* is Yuvvraaj out to prove he can be a superstar with his
singing!

And his first attempt at stardom comes immediately with the next track, the
quite wonderfully composed *Tu Meri Dost Hain*. The music, starting on a
simple note, is eerily soft yet ever so alluring eventually developing into
a blissful tune that will undoubtedly mesmerize you upon repeated listening.
But why are you surprised? These are the hallmarks of classic Rahman! In
particular the melodious cello play just takes the track to another level
and the accompanying symphony effects are fabulous as are the dovetailing
beats…everything links together so harmoniously, I am simply at a lost for
words to describe the beauty of this composition. Special mention also to
Gulzar saab for his gifted lyrics that add so much meaning to the song.
Furthermore it appears that Rahman's singing dynasty has added another
sensation in the form of Benny Dayal (who also sang in *Jaane Tu..*) who
sings in stunning fashin alongside the maestro himself. But it's Shreya
Ghoshal's entry midway through that is a masterstroke and just the icing on
the cake. Honestly, if it wasn't for Rahman's earlier release this year from
Jodhaa Akbar i.e. the amazing *Khwaja Mere Khwaja*, this would be my pick
for the most outstanding track of 2008. Genius!

*A.R.Rahman- "Subhash Ghai is very different from other directors. He has
really worked hard on the visuals. They look really colorful and really
romantic. It's almost treated in a musical way where it's more realistic
than just background music."*

Ok it's now time for some party as the spotlight moves onto Zayed Khan and
so beckons the next track *Shano Shano***. Let's be honest from the outset,
this is the weakest track of Yuvvraaj by some distance. However it's not a
total disaster when you take it in the context of the movie. Yes the music
sounds like something out of a 1980s disco floor but if Zayed wants to
groove to some chaotic music, as a composer, that is what you have to
deliver! At the very least Rahman provides variety with some interesting
musical instruments (it's not all synth) and the use of multiple singers
including Sonu Nigaam, Srinivas, Karthik, Timmy, Sunaida, Vivienne Pocha,
Tina. Lyrics are about as good as they get for such a track. This is
passable but the soundtrack offers so much more so let's move on.
Incidentally *Shano Shano Remix*** by Krishna Chetan contains more vocals by
Ember that are reminiscent of a 'bad boy' Yuvvraaj and hence the song is
quite fitting for the movie. Nice alternative but nothing more.

After that minor blip, the soundtrack diverts itself onto the SOUL of
Yuvvraaj with the utterly spellbindin

Have been hearing this album repeatedly now for the past 2 days and I hardly

[arr] Yuvvraaj - Song will most definitely sound better when placed in the context of the film

2008-10-16 Thread Siraj K
The music to the upcoming film Yuvvraaj (first discussed with trailers
here)
is A. R. Rahman standard. It is easily among the best of the year, if not
the best. Only the Mozart from Madras can kick off a Hindi film soundtrack
with a Beethoven symphony (the fifth) featuring the voice of Salman Khan,
and later make one rock to an Indian classical piece. Loveleh! Go buy it as
soon as you can, you'll be glad you did! More on the music to follow. For
now, I hope you enjoy the lyrics and translation to the song Tu Hi Toh Meri
Dost Hai, with vocals by Benny Dayal, Shreya Ghosal, and A. R. Rahman. The
lyrics are by Gulzar. You can listen to all songs at this
link
.

The song will most definitely sound better when placed in the context of the
film. It's a brilliant duet, and requires careful listening to appreciate
the dialogue exchange between two romantically involved characters, which
the song very likely is. Unless it is 'voice' singing a love song and the
one being spoken to is music, which could be the case, don't you think?

I really like how it oozes music and references thereof. Beautiful. Katrina
Kaif playing the cello (she looks absolutely gorgeous in the trailers) will
only add to its beauty. It's very consistent with the theme of the film and
its tagline: 'Music binds love'. Also like the reference to traveling
through the skies and heavens, which might well be a very deliberate
reference to divinity, with the unifier, of course, being 'love'. The
reference has been used before in Bollywood in a similar context (perhaps
the most popular being Aao Huzoor Tum Ko by Asha Bhosle in Kismat (1968),
which had music by O. P. Nayyar). This one is as good as any other.

you are right..i think most of the bollywood people want to hear the
same song in different movies...(ex: himesh..one song--"n" number of
movies)

do you want ARR to compose Roja or similar to like that?
i think its ARR is definitely not doing too much experiment..but
giving freshness always..anyways..i am not criticizing your
taste..just criticizing the comment...

some ppl love himesh or whoever is..thats their taste..
we are rahmaniac taste..we do njoy and adopt new fresh tastes

But here, as soon as Salman finishes and ARR's voice appears, the

Could anyone please mention the durations when Chori Pe Chori is heard

Seems that is what he himself did, that is why his reviews of remaining

Mastam mastam is so catchy, so simple, so naughty. THIS is the song that
is the most easier to swallow in the entire album.

Why? Does a classical raga on synthesizer not remain a classical raga.

I think that observation could be correct.

But that could be Subhash Ghai who must have emphasized to get that type
of music, use of instruments, that he always gives in his films' music.

Taal was surely sounding contemporary at the time of its release, even
ahead of time, but this album's mood is more of 70s.

I would not term that as a drawback of the music, but as a plus of the
MD who could get a 70s' feel 40 year later.

That is the whole point.

ARR+Ghai eventually got an album that is simple.

I don't know UK Top 40 charts back in the early 90's, but it is really
credible to ARR+Ghai that they created and dared to release such a
number 20 years later.

[arr] Yuvvraaj - initial euphoria

2008-10-16 Thread goodday_guy
I call it euphoria because it's the scent of ARR's new music that is
unique and you are on a marathon to keep listening to it not getting
enough, till you drop. I started listening this morning, I haven't
stopped yet and will be like this for next days and weeks I guess.

Main Hoon Yuvvraaj - Not much to talk about, except that music is
Beethovan's not ARR's.

Tu Meri Dost Hai - This is a classic in this album. Benny Dayal and
Shreya have sung it passionately. Interludes are awesome.

Shano Shano - I think this was Ghai's doing, and ARR had to provide
something 'supposedly' pep club song thrown in. May be it is
situational, let's hope.

Tu Muskura - This is the 'theme' of Yuvvraaj, appearing in Manmohini
and Dil Ka Rishta as well. Another classic.

Mastam Mastam - Middle-eastern or african feel and lots of instruments
thrown. Makes for good listening and grows on you after a while. Sonu
is superb.

Zindagi - Srinivas reminds me of his other songs sung for ARR before.
The tune is very melodius and has an 'old song' feel to it. After 2
minutes in to it, the orchestration grows to a new level and has that
ARR punch.

Dil Ka Rishta - Awesome orchestration, beautiful interludes, I am on
repeat.

Manmohini Morey - Classical vocal on rhythms, I fell in love with this
at first hearing and Vijay Prakash excels in his rendition.
Unfortunately just when you think things are getting interested, the
song fades away to end. I thought like the song could have been
fullblown but chopped off for some reason.

Shano - Remix - Good remix, that's all I can say

My favorite tracks are Dil Ka Rishta, Mahmohini, Tu Meri Dost Hai and
Tu Muskura in that order

ARR has proven again that he has experiementation going for him, music
after music, the last 3 years have been phenomenal. Just take 'New
York Nagaram' for example, who can come up with such an innovative
track? Simply can't. Only ARR can.

God bless him with long life to keep producing world class music.

I just listened to songs of Yuvvraaj. What awesome are those.

These songs are definitely ahead of time. I read some negative reviews. But
those people will definitely start loving these songs after 3-4 months or more
than that. After all, all these are by A. R. Rahman. Not by anyone else.

There is magic behind ARR songs. Not a single song of ARR feels ultimate on
first listening. We normal human have such low grasp of music, that we cannot
get until we listen those until 10 times.

History shows every song has hidden magic. It starts doing magic after some
time and then forever.

Boss' voice is magic. His voice always shows his genuineness and his devotion
to music.

I am damn sure after watching the film, everyone would definitely appreciate
why A.R.R has done such great music.

Well done again Boss.

Well said.

People unnecessarily point fingers without having the full data.

For that matter, Subhash Ghai is NOT a new comer, yet his films (not
music) are not doing well for almost a decade. Even taal movie was
having shabby script. Yaadein ki kisi ko yaad bhi nahin hai. Kishna was
arbitrary.

And I think Mangal Pandey movie was badly made.

Even, one of the most established and respected name that used ARR as MD
made BOSE more like a documentary that showed events but was not really
having the feel of independence struggle that should have cone in a BOSE
film.

So, I think it is not really the resume of the director that matters.
There are good and bad newcomers, there are good and bad established names.

[arr] Which Raga is Manmohini?

2008-10-16 Thread V S Rawat
After Kisna's Kaahe Ujaadi Mori Neend (by ID), Ghai has again used a
pure classical song Manmohini. That sounds so good and rare. That is one
area that Anu Malik and Himesh and Pritam would never touch because it
is just beyond their capabilities.

Any master of classical music here? Which Raga is Manmohini based on?

Any other film songs (non-ARR) based on that Raga?

Thanks.

I am laughing at those who gave negative reviews to Yuvraj so far,
though I am also sad for them that they are missing such a gem.

What an album.

What an album.

What an album.

I think that this album is not really in the category of "growing".

If an ARR album becomes likeable within one or two days, that is not
growing as per ARR's standards.

Growing albums are like 1947 Earth that one has to hear for a month
before the music's fine nuances get internalized in mind and we start
liking it.

I concede that on the first half a dozen hearings, the music did sound
cacophonic - loud instruments, chorus, something they used in 1970s. But
that feeling soon evaporated and the hand of ARR is showing everywhere
in it now.

I am taken aback at the daring of ARR that he does release such albums
knowing well that several people might not like it in the first hearing,
and several might never bother to give it a second hearing (recall that
stupid blog review saying "skip the next track". What an idiot and fool
that guy must be.)

But that is what separates ARR's devoted fans from a casual listener. We
trust ARR so we stand by his music and we get the treats of lifetime,
album after album.

While ARR had to let go his signature effect to make Pappu Can't Dance
Sala popular, he is back with his signature effect evident everywhere in
each and every song of Yuvraj, and still it is going to be one of the
most popular album of ARR, I hope.

I think mastam mastam is going to be on every youth's tongue.

:-) Confessing that it is already on my tongue.

What a catchy album. Totally different from Taal, still the music has
similar beauty - earthly, with variety, catchy, peppy, satisfying,

Am enjoying it like anything.

Lyrics might be the only negative of this album. Somewhere gulzar has
given good feelings, still, to me, he sounds too emotional, having used
uncommon figures of speech, compared to simple flowing language that
Anand Bakshi used in Taal.

And, in this album, I feel that music is drowning the lyrics. Don't know
why Ghai allowed that, because he must be knowing that people can sing
songs only when they are able to catch the lyrics.

In one song (forgot which one is), the stereo effect is used cheaply,
without much imagination. The music goes from one speaker to other just
like that - one note sounding in one speaker, next note sounding in
other speaker. No purpose really. That doesn't reflect the perfection
and innovation that ARR is famous for.

[arr] A way for each of us to express our gratitude to Rahman Saab

2008-10-16 Thread Chord
I always wish that Rahman Saab would be more available to us in person
on this group or be able to communicate directly with his fans more
often, but I have to respect his space and comfort level. That being
said, can we think of a way to express our gratitude once again as a
group and individually for this amazing 2008 year in which he has
given us music to cherish for a lifetime?

Even with my limited understanding of Hindi, this song touches my
heart because of the music. The way the melody is at ease,
Shrinivas's beautiful singing, the chords, all togetherthis
song touches a part of me very deep inside. It takes a special song
to reach that place. Man Mohanna and Khwaja did it for me last.

2008-10-16 Thread Ajith
Hey friends,

If the song mentioned is En Veettu Thottathil (Gentleman), its true. But its
not actually copying...its an inspiration from a devotional song.

But its a very old story.  I once happened (some years back) to view an
interview of O.S. Arun in podhigai tv, there he mentioned about this very song.

Thats Correct! I totaly agree nice Review!

Small Messege to Rahman:

I always listen in the interviews Rahman saying I qoute -
" Doing Bollywood music is very difficult & tricky, because people expect
Jazz,Pop,HIp-Hop,classical styles in a album which makes it so diffcult to
compose"something like this..(Rahman has repeatedly said this in many
interviwes)

I dont agree on the above what Rahman says...
1) When Rahman did Roja People accepted..& even today u go back listen to
Roja..its a masterpiece...Music was simple no jazz,pop style etc., yet...no
words..
2) Mass Audiences I agree u have to compose like what Rahman says...but is not
true all times...beacuse Most of them here agree that Albums like "Bose" was a
master piece..atleast it is in top 5 Rahman Work.
3)You cannot go to Adayar Anand Bhavan and order Pizza..or cant go to Pizza hut
and order Uttapam! some thing like that u cannot mix all style of music in one
song and expect people to listen! as in case of Yuvraj!!!

I agree, RAhmans music takes time to grow!  but this was I felt..wanted to
write this much earlier..somehow could not
I may not be genious like ARR
I may not be great musician
am just one amongst the Music lover and appreciate good music

Music Review - YUVVRAAJhttp://www.loknews. com/2008/
10/16/0647/ music-review- yuvvraaj/

By Parampreet Singh Sandhu • Oct 16th, 2008 •
Category: Entertainment

Music: A. R. Rahman
Lyrics: Gulzar
YUVVRAAJ started creating buzz as soon as the first teasers started
hitting the airways. This is arguably the most anticipated soundtrack
and movie of 2008. The Subhash Ghai – A. R. Rahman duo only came together once
before this venture and were responsible for creating an epic masterpiece
that stretched beyond anyone's imagination. The album was TAAL, and
where the late Anand Bakshi blessed the listeners with his soulful
lyrics, Gulzar will grace us this time with his insightful poetry in
YUVVRAAJ.
Like its predecessor, the story of YUVVRAAJ is based on music,
forcing the songs to be play even a more important role than usual.
Salman Khan starts off the introduction to the album with a small
monologue while Beethoven's 5th is played in the background, titled
'Main Hoon Yuvvraaj'. From the get go its fair to assume the music in
the movie will be based from the west, rather than traditional Indian themes.
Rahman begins with a very promising start in 'Tu Meri Dost Hain' (Benny Dayal,
Shreya Ghosal,
A. R. Rahman). As soon as the violins make their entry, the heavily
western classical based song takes a Rahman turn for the good. Benny
Dayal (another prodigy of the maestro) is bearable, but is too
reminiscent of Sonu Nigam. Had the Sonu effect been in place instead of
Benny, little Rafi would have added an entirely new dynamic, taking the
song to greater heights. Shreya Ghosal maintains her voice well without
reaching the higher pitches that sometimes deter listeners from her.
Rahman's vocals come towards the end with very little effect. The
composition suits Gulzar's lyrics perfectly. The beauty and impact
behind one of the most prolific writers of the modern era is showcased very
well.
If the first song left you completely vulnerable, hoping for a historic caliber
album; then get ready to be crushed!
'Shano Shano' (Sonu Nigam, Srinivas, Karthik, Timmy, Sunaina,
Vivienne Pocha, Tina) strays away from the romantic feel, offering
those young whiper snappers a song to 'get on the floor' and dance to.
Rahman has been successful in the past when utilizing synthesizers for
dance tracks ('O Humdum Suniyo Re' from SAATHIYA), but at times 'Shano
Shano' comes off as a cheap 80s pop number. There was no point of
having Sonu Nigam contribute to this song, he had a minimal part and
got drained by all the other singers. Another negative was Rahman
blatantly using snippets of a previously recorded song, 'Chori Pe
Chori', from SAATHIYA.
Retracting back to the original theme set by 'Tu Meri Dost Hain',
Alka Yagnik comes together with Javed Ali in 'Tu Muskura' for another
romantic duo. The last thing you want to do after listening to this
track is smile. For those who don't want to see their heroic composer
fall deeper into the mediocrity pool and eventually drown, then either
throw the CD out or skip back to 'Tu Meri Dost Hain'.
'Mastam Mastam' brings Sonu Nigam with Alka Yagnik and again makes
this album tougher to swallow. Alka was once the most sought after
female singer, but in the last few years her stock has declined
drastically, paving the way for the Shreya Ghosals a

Wow! That is hilarious indeed, and what better time to read it than
when you can do with a good laugh? I loved the last sentence "even
considering the few songs he composed for Kisna"!! Anyways not a bad
idea to get publicity. And by the way Yuvraaj music has released?

[arr] "It was a bit unconventional " - A.R. Rahman

2008-10-16 Thread Vithur
Don't be surprised if the magic of "Taal" repeats itself with the coming
together of Subhash Ghai and AR Rehman one more time. Subhash Ghai speaking
on the comparisions between "Taal" and "Yuvraaj" said, "You compare with
"Taaal'. And people compare. It is inevitable. You liked "Taal", and you
want to compare with it. Definitely, you are not going to compare it with
"Kisna" because you didn't like it."

Yes, the showman is back with his lavish canvas, a musical again. This time
it is "Yuvvraaj" and quite evidently, he does not fear those comparisons
with his last 1994 musical hit "Taal".

But, the googly dished out by the showman was the complete absence of any
actor - Salman, Katrina, Zayed or Anil kapoor - from the music launch.

Subhash Ghai speaking on the absence of actors, said, "Stars hog the
limelight. I wanted the event to be focussed on only the music and wanted
technicians to come to the forefront. We have to give respect to these
people. When stars come, they overshadow the others. Even the stars agree
with this."

And then, we were caught completely off guard when Anil Kapoor turned up at
another event, to say, "I didn't know there was a music release."

Well, now we don't understand the logic, even more so, when A R Rehman's
mother did the honours - a move that even took the maestro by surprise!

Rehman reacting to the absence of stars said, "It was a bit unconventional
because we expect Ghai to do in such a fanfare model. I didn't expect this
surprise."

With opulent operatic music interspersed with Rehman's signature melody,
Ghai's "Yuvraaj" is a musical treat for one and all. We will hope that the
film turns out likewise.

[arr] Awesome songs of Yuvvraaj

2008-10-16 Thread Anil Wadghule
I just listened to songs of Yuvvraaj. What awesome are those.

These songs are definitely ahead of time. I read some negative reviews. But
those people will definitely start loving these songs after 3-4 months or
more than that. After all, all these are by A. R. Rahman. Not by anyone
else.

There is magic behind ARR songs. Not a single song of ARR feels ultimate on
first listening. We normal human have such low grasp of music, that we
cannot get until we listen those until 10 times.

History shows every song has hidden magic. It starts doing magic after some
time and then forever.

Boss' voice is magic. His voice always shows his genuineness and his
devotion to music.

I am damn sure after watching the film, everyone would definitely appreciate
why A.R.R has done such great music.

Well done again Boss.

[arr] Rehman’s music just gives the song perfect pitch of emotions and melody.

2008-10-16 Thread Vithur
http://tdas.wordpress.com/2008/10/16/yuvvraaj-music-review/

*YUVVRAAJ* music review - Subhash
Ghai , A.R. Rehman , Gulzaar…… Three mega performers in their respective
field of arts together … A promise in itself to deliver beautiful music. It
is no secret that Ghai himself gets involved in the music of his movie so
much and delivers amazing product each and every time. The three names
assures me of good poetry , melodious tune and beautiful picturization.

Sung by Benny Dayal and the wonderful Shreya Ghoshal. With every song she is
singing , you cannot help but fall in love with her.Benny's husky voice is
perfect for the soulful ambience of this song.Sounds like Rehman clone but
has really good voice and does amazing job. Shreya Ghoshal … the voice cant
get any sweeter or melodious. Very fitting complement to Benny's vocal. The
way she releases the lyrics , (note the way she ends every word of hers…i
think its becoming her signature style. just fades out the pitch before
going on to next word). Many sources say song is sung by Rehman himself. One
para does sound like Rehman has sung it.Sweet and Simple lyrics by Gulzar. I
wonder why he transformed his style from absolute poetry like Saathiya
tittle to very simple poem as in Jaane-man and this song itself. In all very
hummable and lovely song. One more thing , i think it acts pretty much as
background score for the entire movie. The tune is also used in other songs
of the album …. Tu Muskura and Manmohini

*Main hoon Yuvvraj *

this is the album opener. Rather than a number , its a recital by Salman
Khan with Beethoven's symphony in the background. One minute of blabber , i
think describing his character. Gives you the feeling this movie is again
based on musical background like Ghai's previous TAAL.

*Shanno Shanno*

Mix between Flo-rida style and Pappu can't Dance. Doesnt really makes sense
to me the importance this number in the album. I hope it is needed in the
script

*Tu Muskura *

Glimpses of Gulzar stlye in lyrics. Very well sung by Javed Ali and Alka
yagnik. She is melodious and justifies the mood of the song. Javed Ali does
well on Rehman's standard of singing fast sargams in the song.

*Mastam Mastam *

Fun-frolic party kinda peppy number. I think lyrics would make sense
according to the scene in the script. Sonu nigam does well using his
signature style in the entire song. Nothing much to do for him or show his
talent (he doesnt need to do so anymore) as far as the song is considered.
But if you are a Sonu Nigam fan , note the variations he used and can
appreciate how he has sung this one differently from what others would have
done. I think thats the only reason Rehman went with Sonu for this song.

*Zindagi*

Listening to a couple of lines, i thought it was Hariharan but later on
realised it was kinda different though. Srinivas gets the emotions right on.
Sung very well with beautiful Gulzar lyrics and apt music. Rehman's music
just gives the song perfect pitch of emotions and melody.
*
Dil Ka Rishta*

Sounds much more as a musical theme . Really loved the way the music is
arranged. Again , song would be more appreciated once the story is known.
But for now listen to this one as a theme music, you will enjoy Rehman's
work

*Manmohini Morey*

Nicely done by Vijay Prakash. This falls in classical music genre with
Rehman's use of different instruments in mono form (sound flowing from one
speaker to another) making it semi-classical.

*Shano Shano Remix
*
Not a big fan of remixes. Opted not to listen to this one as the first one
was kinda disappointing.

*In all Tu hi to meri dost is the star of the album with good melodies like
Zindagi followed by Tu Muskura**

enjoy!!!

Re: [arr] Best headphones required !!! HELP

2008-10-16 Thread yvs.aditya
Hi everyone,
I tried posting a mail before, but was in a hurry and I'm not sure if
i even managed to post it successfully.
The thing is i think i can help some people.
Without being condescending i believe that BOSE as a headphone is
great compared to your creatives,i pod free-bees,and the likes.
However, the general perception in audiophile circles is that BOSE is a
overpriced toy.By the way, any noise cancellation is deemed highly
distortive(because the artificial noise cancellation interferes with
the original frequencies). In any case, the point is that for the price
you pay for BOSE you are likely to find much better sounding
headphones than the Goliath. Also BOSE is not the pinnacle of sound
reproduction as the myth surrounding it around here suggests.Ask a
good DJ and you will know.

To the more important point,
This dossier is a good starting point for people looking at headphones.
Less than 2000: buy Koss KSC75(better than QC3).
For 5k to 12-15k try Grados SR series, medium priced Shures ,
Audio Technica wooden series etc.
For more expensive ones under 25 k try HD595 600 650.Denons,bayer
dynamics, ultimate ears or shure(for in ear).
under 30K-50k you can get grados GS/HP series or ultrasone.Ofcourse
you will enter STAX/Sony RS1 here and go on till 3 lakhs in STAX.

But for the best headphones like the HDs or grados amplifiers are a
must. All headphones worth more than 15 k are just as good as the Music
you listen to.The best headphones needs the best amps and the best
source to create the best music.

For senheissers i would suggest you little dot or dark voice
amplifiers. If money is not a constraint look at stuff like zana deux.
In any case if you are looking at spending 15 k you would do better
than to look at a mail like this. Try headfi.org. The singular site
for audiophiles.

For people looking to shred me to pieces i accept that i have very
little knowledge in this area. But i've studied
enough to know that regardless of the knowledge, one has one likely to
get the same advice even from a pro.

Regards,
Aditya.
Lenovo R61 > EMU 0404 USB DAC > blue jeans cable > little dot MKV >
HD650.This set up cost me around 55k(not the laptop). But i love it.

Re: [arr] A.R.Rahman isn't a good judge of scripts

2008-10-16 Thread ashwin
The author mentions that movies by new directors that were hit were
backed by strong personalities. Lagaan was produced by Aamir Khan.
Rakeysh Mehra himself admits that without Aamir the movie was not
possible, hence again the movie had strong backing.
As I don't watch Tamil movies I can't comment on them.
However, i'd say that a good script rendered badly on screen can also
spoil a movie. But with the kind of movies being churned out of
Bollywood, ARR's choice seems spot on, with a few exceptions obviously
like Lakeer, Kisna. But I'm glad he did compose music for them!
So an interesting observation indeed!

Actually the competition for best music as i see is between ARR ARR ARR
and SEL i.e. Jodhaa Akbar JTYJN (although contemporary, the songs are
amazing) Yuvraaj (if it is as good as the author suggests, as I haven't
heard it yet) and Rock On!(SEL have rocked everyone and potentially
revived Indian rock scene, Sindbad the sailor!!).

Subhas Ghai had been one of most consistant good music giver in his
films. Most of his films' music had been immensely popular, even when he
had changed MDs almost with every film. The guy had guts to remove
RDBurman from his film.

and with ARR, he did give Taal, the most popular album of ARR. So, I am
still ready to trust the wisdom of Ghai about choice of music.

[arr] Yuvvraaj soundtrack...my initial reactions..

2008-10-16 Thread msaif_787
Heard the songs on bollywoodhungama.com a few times...the Yuvvraaj
album is really good!...but...it neither sounds like a Subhash Ghai
movie soundtrack nor does it sound like an A.R.Rahman album when he
works with big directors...it also sounds a little outdated...

With the exception of Kisna and Yaadein, all of Subhash Ghai's
musical extravaganzas had atleast one "screaming" hit track - the
soundtracks had lively and immensely entertaining music with lavish
and elaborate instrumental arrangements...in comparison, Yuvvraaj is
too simple, and relying a lot on electronic sound...less instruments
work only when the melody is powerful, which is not the case here...

As for the "outdated" remark...the Manmohini track might sound very
21st century-ish to some, but in actuality a techno band called Snap
tried this experiment with great success in their song Rame released
in 1996/97 -- I remember that song being hugely popular in my school
(check out the song on Youtube)...Shano Shano sounds like a dance
number from the UK Top 40 charts back in the early 90's...

I'm not sure what Subhash Ghai's trying to do here, the music is too
low-key for his standards...don't get me wrong, I love all the songs
from Yuvvraaj, but this just doesn't sound like a Subhash Ghai
album, its more like an Abbas-Mustan or a Farhan Akhtar movie
soundtrack (which is a compliment actually)...

And, where's Gulzar?...I don't see his touch anywhere save for a
couple of lines...for goodness sakes he's teaming up with Ghai &
ARR, I expected hardcore unconventional yet superb poetry
here...moving on, ARR saab please stop using Alka Yagnik because
clearly her voice is not what it used to be...lastly, Benny has a
very good voice, but a song like Tu Meri Dost needs a more
experienced and a stronger singer...

Well, those were my initial reactions, they might change later
on...lets see...
