Re: New adventure game emulator app with audio input and output (mobile)

@NiklasAfter I make the app stable and mostly bug free I will make a port for Windows/OSX/Linux, but for that I have to find another speech recognition engine, because google api is only free for android(if i read it right on the website). The same goes for supporting more file formats, right now I am using the ZMPP open source project (https://sourceforge.net/projects/zmpp/) that only support Z-Machine files. Once everything is stable I can maybe find another engine, that support other formats, and integrate that as well in the app.@TrentonNo problem, I could copy the link even when the url was in that weird format! Android is indeed amazing, I tested the TalkBack accessibility tool and is quite cool!@KenshiraLike I said above, I tried out the TalkBack tool on android, amazing! And using that I agree with you that the Voice enumaration of files is not necessary, the accessibility tool handles the list pretty well! But I also found that on the first load of the game in audio mode, the TalkBack interferes with the in-game text to speech, I will try to make this part less messy.@CycoI have uploaded the app to amazon app store just now, when is approved and published I will put a link here for you to try it out! I cannot guarantee that will work because I don't have a FireOS device.Regards,Daniel

Re: magical ball and edge

The only levels I really, really can't stand are stages 11 and 12. Especially 11.3 and 12.2, as I recall. Carla needs to not die to friendly fire, or needs to be way smarter, so I'm hoping the next big update helps that out. Other than that, I don't mind playing on each successive difficulty, because while things are getting nastier, it's not ramping up super-fast. I will beat the magic ball legitimately, or not at all. Knowing me, probably not at all, or with plenty of insane gamer rage.

For me half the fun is or most of the fun is in doing stuff on my own to have the satisfaction of having delt with the enemies, and to test out my new weapons on the enemies that gave me trouble and see how I fare against them. some new weapons can  be meh, though But eh, if some people don't want to work for it and cheat their way through, that's their choice probably wouldn't be half the fun or give you satisfaction of having beaten a game like BK3 but I am sure that god like feeling must be fun for them. or as Vazbol said, standing at a place and pressing the space key. but then again to be honest I am thinking redoing the same stages over all the different modes could get boring after a while.Maybe not so on the higher difficulty levels, though.Thinking I'll try super wolf or powerful wolf next. or go entirely crazy and try one of the crazy ones. Vazbol wrote:I mean, one can sort of kill the magical ball at a lower level if they're just wanting the weapon and the pieces for the miracle edge.  There's a way ofkilling it that won't grant experience as mentioned before. Any hints clues on that would be really appriciated. I have been wrecking my brain here trying to figure that out, but nothing yet.Grryf

Re: firefight's unbalancing issues

My solution for every FPS until someone implements it.      Sto pretending to be an RPG, stop letting people save stop, make the game into a match mode when enough people are on to put everyone on the map with equal stats to go hunt/collect/complete objectives.     Honestly, the only way you make your current format work is if you expanded your playingfield 100 fold to make it difficult to camp newbies.  Alternatively, start a match, pick a loadout, everyone spawns with different armors/hp/weapons on loadout picked, adding new stuf from pickups on the field.       Go with the Counterstrike root for shops, letting players buy new stuff in between rounds, with a chance to lose the weapon while people keep stuff they bought or got off a corpse and kept.     Just stop pretending your an RPG and not a pvp shootem up.

The USB ports on the Pi are 2.0, so speed might take a hit, not sure what the setup is for external harddrives, but there are some threads [here] and [here] discussing it, depending on how many your attaching, you might want to use a powered USB hub as a go between rather than powering them straight off the pi itself. @soundmud can see if is possible, add arrow navigation between water squares please?Currently if you want move between water squares, you've use the ctrl+arrow navigation; technically water with water is a correct path; only for a kind of units, but is a valid path. A, and a small question about style files. You put a def ford thing on the styles, and says that ground type is water; but in sea, or ocean don't ave that settings. What is the difference?the ford terrain automatically is a water square, and in sea / ocean you have to set it manually on the map file? And the highground types (ground, air and water) currently are hardcoded? or are you planing in to paramiticing them. Thanks!

You can actually preconfigure the SD card image to enable wifi directly without needing an ethernet connection at all. There's a guide [here] on how to do it, and an earlier thread [here] on it. Basically you flash Raspbian Lite onto an SD card, then modify the image while the cards still in your PC to enable ssh, then you can add your network info, plug the card into the Pi, and tunnel in through wifi.As for Orca, I think there were issues with ALSA and Pulse Audio that were causing problems, the last working solution required an external audio dongle for the Orca output to work with a Mate desktop environment, guide for thats [here]. Not sure whats going on with that, but there's also been a few problems with ALSA getting bluetooth headphones working as well. On the flip side, I've found all my python dev tools can be easily ported over to the pi, along with OpenAL-Soft support. I've also been playing around with python based portable sonifiers similar to the Aftersight project, insert cheap webcam, a 5 dollar bluetooth controller, a pair of headphones, and a battery pack, then go for a walk, heh. A large part of what makes Raspi's so appealing isn't just the software side, but that its small, portable, can be powered by any number of cheap battery packs, and can be used to play around with all kinds of hardware like RC Cars, Drones, Robotic Arms, Computer Vision, Weather Stations, Radio Telescopes, or whatever crazy idea you happen to have at the moment.@angel_diva22Did you have any specific projects in mind for your friend? Or is it just setting up the environment? Raspbian Lite is basically an ARM based Debian distro.

Re: CVAA Accessibility Rules Now In Effect

Most indie dev's only implement basic text chat to begin with, if at all, and that all hinges on whether the game has any multiplayer to bother implementing comms. Dealing with communications can be complex and annoying to write and maintain, so a lot of them have their users rely on third part API's and services like Steam Chat, Discord, Skype, Twitch Chat, etc. Or embed their respective API's into their game, so all they really have to deal with is the UI accessibility. So getting communication platforms and larger companies onboard should be the larger focus, coupled with education for indies who might want to adopt a few accessibility standards for basic chat systems.

Re: The right way. Choose between C# and Python for audio game development

Hi.Your overthinking this. Everything I read in that post sounds like you are giving up when things get a little hot. You will never succeed at programming if you do things this way. If you really want to do programming, pick one language and stick with that until you understand what you are doing and can do things without thinking too much.As far as worrying about whether a language is slow or if you can't understand something, work at it until you can understand a particular thing. And don't base your decision on how other people's games and apps run. Maybe sound rts is slow because it was coded badly or maybe it's something else entirely. If you wrote something similar in python it might run faster than sound rts or it might be even slower. If you ask ten different programmers which language is the best you will get ten different answers every time. What do you think about c# or python? Which one best suits your needs? These are the questions you need to ask and answer yourself.Hth.

Re: getting started with a raspberry py

You know, I'm starting to really like the idea of a Pi. Now that I have a Linux VPS and am getting used to the command line, having an accessible GUI seems less and less important. i'm not saying it isn't important, because it would be good for new users or those who don't like the command line, but I'm starting to love the command line access you have in Linux. It's completely accessible because it's just text.If you can't connect your Pi to ethernet, I'd either not get one or find an accessible GUI image that can be flashed to the card and use Wi-Fi. Has anyone else contacted the Raspberry Pi foundation about including Orca in Raspbian? They really should! While researching things to do with my VPS, I found a couple of neat projects you can do with the Pi. First, you can host cheap network attached storage on your local network which is the primary reason I want one of these. You can also install Pi-hole to block all advertisements at the DNS level. That's badass! You can also apparently set up a VPN that triggers when you connect to a wireless network. That's also badass! This $35 computer sounds amazing!I wish I had better access to ethernet ports. The AT&T router is shoved up against a wall and not easy to access. If I had better access to ethernet, I'd get one of these in a heartbeat!

@jonikster, says the person who cannot, for the life of him, ever decide what programming language to use for any project.Carter is correct though. Don't question so much. Find a language that clicks; don't listen to those who claim that "Python is slow" or "C++ is hard" or "C# is more complex" or "Python is simpler". Most of the people who say those kinds of things either don't have experience with the languages in question, or they don't know what their talking about. The speed of a language requires benchmarking, and benchmarking is incredibly, incredibly unreliable and untrustworthy.

I think your looking at this the wrong way, avoiding possibilities because they look too hard. In BGT, everything is layed out and given to you. In other languages this isn't the case. You'll be forced to find a solution that works. This might, nevermind will, require getting your hands dirty if you ever wish to be successful. Not much in our world is just, easy. If it were, everyone and their less talented friend would be churning out new content by the day. Here I see the BGT trap that's taken over parts of this community.I'll leave you with some comments. for starters, I've been programming in python for years now. It's been perfectly fine for my needs. If you decide to go that route, I'd be more than happy to help you out. Python, really isn't all that slow. The ones who insist on this fact are just inexperienced, as it's usually the implementation more than anything. You can't look at other games and say they're slow or bad so must be the language in question. Don't discard a language because X or Y game or library doesn't work well, seriously. Just grab something, play with it, use it, master it. Stop questioning so much. Please don't head down the pondering path this way. You could either learn a language and code in it, or spend that time wondering what language to learn and use for coding. Up to you, really. Either way, you have my opinion and that's python.

It most likely is your antivirus that deletes it. There is a problem with bgt games and antivirus programs, but it is totally safe Try adding a folder to your antivirus’s exceptions list and try installing the game to that folder, or add the file itself to exceptions.Hope it helps.I would maybe play again, but it seems my character has been band since I was last online maybe two months ago, and this is strange since I was online in aproximatly 20 seconds checking MOTD.Hmm, guess I’ll check if I have been unbanned in a couple of weeks.

Re: magical ball and edge

I mean, one can sort of kill the magical ball at a lower level if they're just wanting the weapon and the pieces for the miracle edge.  There's a way of killing it that won't grant experience as mentioned before.       Honestly after a bit, the magical ball fight isn't that hard if you can output the damage while running really fast.   You just need a way to deal with the fireballs, reflect the lightning, avoid the ice, and block or entirely evade the dark shell and repeat. The only time things go weird is when it becomes immune to all damage until some switches up high are hit.    Or you know, negate the entire fight via one shotting the boss without any trouble or effort.  Dear god, I was kind of hoping this game went the root of breaking the game by buffing enemies to the same dumb levels if a cheat was detected.  Infinitely powered player, meet infinitely powered and infinity+infinity hp enemies to bash hopelessly away at.    I mean, once the new changes come in, why don't you just play on legend of aine difficulty and wind down the stage 25 difficulties for the metals.  Granted it's not like any of the new weapons will help you out at this point.  You can probably one shot everything with a shortsword let alone any of the stronger weapons.  Your rewards are now sort of useless since the magical ball or kicker shoes have the same effectiveness as again, the normal short sword.  Unlike other players dealing with more realistic levels for their damage output, a lot of the rewards you'll be getting are less exciting do to the cheated damage output.  Getting the kicker shoes after clearing the last difficulty, and getting it with your altered stats are quite different since one is more amazing to the lower statted player compared to the other.  I honestly don't get the fun at all at just standing still and holding down the attack button while having no risk of death.  You'll just be repeating the same boring grind over and over for every difficulty, getting no excitement from having to dodge about and worry about enemies that you once could crush and seeing what these new weapons crafted or gotten can do to help.      TL-Dr:  More games need to do what some mainstream games do and apply player buffs onto enemies or just break the game if cheating is detected.  Honestly this is probably not as bad as cheating on a multiplayer game (that's a level of agony that shall not be looked at), but I think some people might feel cheated that someone is waltzing through difficulties while they work through stuff the hard way.  That and the flagged game center entries are a bit annoying until they're cleared out, and the auto-cleaner should fix that problem.

Dear audio gamers,I'm having trouble playing STW.  Every time I try to play it, Windows  somehow deletes the entirity of the file, and won't let me install it.Unlike some it seems, I actually admire Mr. Tupy for his work on a massive world like this, and would love very much to play his flag ship title, Survive the Wild. I have spent money on a payed character specifically because I admire his work, and want very much to play it. If I could please get some support in installing this game, that'd  be  great.

Re: CVAA Accessibility Rules Now In Effect

It may have a tiny impact. But I doubt it will do anything to the major companies; this was a bullying tactic, really, since the FCC knows that indi developers can't pay for it, which forces them into compliance (or no communication features at all). Big corporations, though, could pay for well over 15 years of violations before they actually encountered any problems.

The right way. Choose between C# and Python for audio game development

2019-01-04 Thread AudioGames . net Forum — Developers room : Nikita via Audiogames-reflector

The right way. Choose between C# and Python for audio game development

Hi guys. There will be a lot of text. I don't have very good English, for this reason I ask you to forgive me.When BGT came along, I was just starting to learn programming. I can say that I have tried many languages, but I stopped at PHP, because it allows me to work in my country.Of course, I tried BGT.Now I can say that this is a very good choice for offline games. My experiments with BGT led me to network. And I realized that when sending a large amount of data begins, BGT doesn't work correctly.I saw the Crazy Party, which was developed on BGT. It doesn't require a large number of requests, for this reason, it works well.I saw STW, which was also developed on BGT. It works well. But I saw the redspot. I see the firefight. I see poor network performance in BGT when sending a large number of requests. For example, when firing a machine gun.For this reason, I decided to use other programming languages. What was my choice? C++. For some reason I thought it was the perfect choice for me.When I got to pointers, my brains began to melt. I realized that I would spend a lot of time not on the algorithm of the game, but on the mechanics of the game.Does anyone remember un interview with BGT developer and Blastbay founder Philip Bennefall? He said that one of the goals for which BGT was created was so that when developing audio games one could think more about the algorithm, the logic of the game than about the mechanics of the game.I would like to get this result. After C++, I began to look at C#, Java and Python.I was confused. Now I understand that Java is not my choice, because Java will be paid soon. It remains to choose between C # and Python. On the one hand, I would really like to make friends with Python. Why?First, it's a simple programming language. Recently, I read an article about Python productivity.Secondly, Python has a large number of libraries. These libraries allow you to create many things without going beyond a single programming language.I dreamed that I would be like Google and many other developers who use Python wherever possible. But I hurried! In Python, I found bad things in my opinion:First of all. Did you play SoundRTS? Why is this game so slow? And this game was developed in Python!Secondly. When I started learning Pyglet, I encountered the problems of the complexity of object-oriented programming and decorators. In addition, there are generators in Python, which also cause difficulties. When I met games like Entombed and Three-D-Velocity, I decided to learn C#.I liked C#. True. I could create applications with a GUI without wasting a lot of time. When Kianoosh studied C#, he shared examples. I have seen working with the keyboard through Windows.Forms. But I realized that this is not good, because it causes difficulties if I need to use key handling in different methods, because key handling through Windows.Forms occurs in events.I thought that my knowledge in C# was enough so that I could start developing games. But when I looked at the Three-D-Velocity code, I was shocked. I don't understand anything! The last stage for today is my search for network programming.I have not received information from Python, but I learned that the network in C# works more efficiently and more efficiently than in Java. You remember, recently, on the forum, the guy with the nickname Jonikster wrote about Sockets and Twisted in Python. After BGT, my network complexity causes in Python too. When I looked at it in C#, it seemed to me easier than in Python.Guys. I have only 2 questions. How should I choose between C# and Python? How do I start the right way? Thanks!

If you know Japanese, read the source file found on Morokuma's website. Even if you don't, the numbers are in English. It says a position like 4,1 then some code, then 4,2 and more code. Follow the numbers as if it was a graph. The x axis is allways first, so that means the first number is the horizontal position. If you don't want to read Japanese, I can post a list of wich options to choose for both mazes when I'm able to, but that won't be until tomorrow morning.

Yes, I know about region locking. lol I've been playing games since the early 90s and the snes days, though have played older since. I know the history. What I meant to point out is that region locking and the spreading of accessibility don't have all that much to do with each other. Not that there weren't workarounds for region locking... everything from the adapter my family bought to be able to play Japan-region snes cartridges to the modchips in both my ps1 and ps2.

Re: Creating a "Risk" like game:

Hi. Unfortunately i can not tell you more about programing, but i have one suggestion for you. More easyest way to create something like that is on next way. Just create map for tactical battle. It is turn based game, you can create units, conquer enemy teritory etc...

Re: Crazy Party: mini-games and card battle! (beta63)

You almost never make an 80 cards deck. The chance of drawing what you need is very small. Don't worry about the numbers too much actually. There is no definitive put 20 cards of this type and 20 of that type. Just put what you think will work for you, and if you find it has too many cards try to remove something. 80 cards very rarely works good. Generally, 40 to 60 is good, however it all depends on the deck type.

How does the ultra yoyo work? I crafted it, but it is doing 0 damage. I must be doing something wrong.

Re: win frots tts

It should also be noted that in some games, such as Curses, it's actually quite useful to have the status line always read, because little quotations pop up from time to time. I played the game using Frotz on a computer and was surprised how much detail I missed when playing the game on a notetaker. Still, if you don't like that, SAPI is indeed an option, found in the speech tab of Frotz preferences, accessible using control+p.

@Assault:Actually goes back all the way back to the NES and even earlier with copy protection, and region locking however. Yes the PS3/4 are region free, but the PS2 and PS1 are not however.

Re: CVAA Accessibility Rules Now In Effect

Nvm, I found that topic. Also, to add to my previous point on finances, a one man band, like a Notch or a Phil Fish who has a limited budged may well not want to do the expensse of making their game with communications, due to it adding time and effort. If anything, $100,000 per violation is more than most* small indie devs can afford. I could definitely see a situation where an indie dev cuts communication features out of their game to avoid the headache of paying $100,000 per violation or per  day for an ongoing violation. This, naturally like I said won't afect the big studios because they are both rich enough and big enough to absorb the costs. Why? Because big companies have money. Also given certain big publishers history  of litigation, I wouldn't be amazed if there's challenges to the CVAA to come from some companies.
