[Blind-Computing] turning off automatic updates
Hi, everyone. Since my older version of Jaws won't work with internet explorer 8, I don't want to install it. How do I turn off automatic updates so I don't get the microsoft updates message when I go to my home page? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much in advance. Hi, Upon restarting my computer, I received the following error: Rundll32.exe - Bad Image The application or DLL H:\WINDOWS\system32\jinuyeju.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette. OK Before I restarted the computer, the system was performing very slowly. I was on Aim and it would not accept a file transfer, saying there was no disk space, which I knew was incorrect. When I restarted the computer, it first wanted to end a program that I didn't recognize the name of. Now the system is running normally, but Aim still won't accept file transfers, and that message has me a little worried. Any ideas? Re: [Blind-Computing] System Trey
Hi Marilyn, What I have done is copy Icons/program shortcuts that I don't use very often into the start menu and delete the Icons from the desktop. I used to have something like 50 or more icons on the desktop and now I only have 14. Granted, I have a lot of programs in the start menu but, that is very easy to navigate especially when they are programs I don't use frequently. If you don't know how to place things into the start menu the steps are below. 1. Select and copy the item to the clipboard. 2. Go to the desktop and open My Computer. 3. open Local disc C. 4. Open Documents & Settings. 5. Arrow to the folder with your name, the name folder and press enter. 6. Press the letter S until you get to the start menu or arrow down until you get to the start menu. 7. Press enter on the start menu and paste your item in there. 8. Sometimes you have to create a shortcut through the context applications key. If you paste a shortcut you need to delete "shortcut to" from the item. Hope this helps. Take care. Generally speaking, if a program can be minimized to the system tray, that ability is built into the program, and how exactly you accomplish it varies from program to program. Don't confuse the desktop with the system tray. It's my understanding that the desktop itself, if toocrowded, can actually slow your machine down a little. Re: [Blind-Computing] inporting messages
Hi Michael, Are these OE messages saved as " .eml " files, " .doc " files or as some other type of file extension? If it is saved as a ".eml" file try this; 1. Open the file and press the control + F keys to forward it and simply forward it to yourself by addressing it to yourself and pressing alt + S to send while in the edit field. If it has a .doc or some other file extension try this; 1. Open My Documents and go to the document you would like to put into OE. 2. Open the document and press control + A to select the whole message. 3. Now, press control +C to copy it to the clipboard and close the document. 4. Go to OE and open a new message. 5. Address this new message to yourself with your Email address and put something in the subject field to name it. 6. In the edit field, press control + V to paste the message you had copied from My Documents and press Alt + S to send it. 7. When you receive this Email in your In box highlight it and press the control, shift, +V keys simultaneously. This is the shortcut keystroke to move a message. 8. Now arrow up and down until you find the folder you want to put the message in and when you get to the folder you want press enter and the message will be in your desired folder. There are probably other and/or easier ways to do this but, this is what works for me. Hope this helps. Take care. Thanks Gerald. I guess I am OK with Super Antispyware. It already saved about 3 Gigs of space. I tried to download Malware and it keeps telling me that the file is corrupt anyway. I am just going to totally delete it. - Original Message - From: "Gerald Levy" To: Sent: Sunday, April 26, 2009 5:47 PM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] System Trey Follow these steps to remove unwanted icons from the System Tray: 1. Thanks for the info. I was afraid it was a virus. How accessible is the Windows repair with Jaws? I'm assuming it's something you probably have to do with the XP cd, but I'll definitely keep running virus scans and hope I don't have to mess around with that. hi Steve well not sure how you got this infection then hay. interesting...you know the program I just sent to you? out of curiosity I used it myself, to se if it was accessible really. any way, it's found two infections on my pc but doesn't say what it is. but I use avast, malwarebytes, superanti spyware and non have them have come up with anything. very weird. so no ideas if it has found something or it's just saying that. Re: [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge
What version of the Java Access Bridge do you have? Looking at the zip contents it looks like it could be version 1.2. The latest version I have seen is 2.0 and has been around for a while. Of course, I am just guessing. Sun has always confused me with their version numbering. Their should be a link on the previously provided link for the Java runtime to download the latest Java Access Bridge as well. You can get the Java run time environment at the following address: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp Once you have installed the Java run time environment, uninstall and reinstall the Java Access Bridge. hi Steve I might be wrong but don't think it can, I for one wouldn't be sure it was completely gone to be perfectly honest. scan with anything you can find until it says it's clear. I'd also go looking for a removal tool and hope it isn't one that says go in to the registry. don't know about you, but I wont mess about in there. *smiles* what anti virus are you using? might I also suggest malwarbytes, although not an anti virus program it can pick up Trojans. Apologies if you already have this program. Re: [Blind-Computing] potentially serious windows problem, can someone explain this message?
I would say that is definitely classic virus-type behavior. If you find a virus with avast, you should scan your computer more than once, and keep doing it until you get zero threats found or something to that effect. You might have a Trojan horse, and those can take a long time to clean out. Also, you might consider a windows repair if possible. I don't know how to do that, but there is a ton of info about it on google. Re: [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge
I do have Java installed. It is there in my system tray. However I redownloaded the installation and ran an update. At the end I received a message that Java had been successfully updated. I again ran the install.exe in the Java Access Bridge and again got the message. No Java VMs found No Java virtual machines found which will support the Java Access Bridge. Search more? Accepting the option to search more creates a bizarre error message saying "no disc ". This error message in turn is impossible to exit from unless you restart your computer. I copied the Java Access Bridge folder onto the c drive but received identical results. User friendly this is not! Has anybody else got any idea? This means you do not have a version of Java installed on your computer. This means you will have to go to the Java web site and install the latest Java version. You can get the Java run time environment at the following address: http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_automatic.jsp Once you have installed the Java run time environment, uninstall and reinstall the Java Access Bridge. This will hopefully get things working for you. As a side note, I have not found Open Office to be very accessible. It is difficult to use for someone who must use a screen reader. Re: [Blind-Computing] Unusual problem with laptop
The problem is not that laptops take a long time to boot up. The real problem is that it takes a long time for JAWS to start speaking after you hit the power button. And it doesn't seem to matter what kind of computer you have. Just turn it off when it's not being used for a few hours. So what if it takes a little longer to start up? At least it will come up and running. I have had occasional problems bringing my hefty Dell workstation out of standby mode, so I prefer to completely shut it down at night or whenever I won't be using it for a few hours. And don't even get me started about hibernate mode. [Blind-Computing] Java problem
hell all, I downloaded a program for packaging the z-code files to .jar, but nevermind, to open the .jar file, I had to use the j2se or sdk. Not knowing what was that, I downloaded something that I found using google, and when I wanted to install the file, the file was j2sdk-1_4_13-nb-5_0win-ml.exe, it said that htat is a virtual machine, and the instalation was graphical. Is there an accessible way to open the jar file and do with it what I need to do? Best regards, and thank you in advance! Re: [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge
Hi, I think the error you are getting is because the Java Access Bridge cannot find the Java run time environment.
I had an old work Armada XP laptop once which used to freeze in a similar fashion. The solution was to unplug the power supply, release the battery for 5 seconds , reinsert the battery , replug in and reboot. It is a hassle but probably quicker than allowing the battery to discharge. Sometimes the only way out of a crash appears to unfortunately remove all power sources. Hope all is ok when it eventually reboots. [Blind-Computing] Java Access Bridge
Dear List Can anybody help with this query. I am considering a Project where I try and make available training in free screen reading / office software for a local low vision forum. I need to test this out for feasibility. I am going to use NVDA and Open Office. The stumbling block I have is that I need to install the Java Access Bridge . I have download the zip file from Sum systems and run the installer.exe file which is found in the Installer directory of the extracted folder The notes accompanying the files are a model of how not to set up user friendly guidance.. The error message I receive when I run this installer.exe is "something like error - no VM found". Does anybody know what is going on here? Also in the extracted folder are a couple of dll files. Can I simply copy them somewhere for this to all work? Is there a simpler access bridge installer which I can download and use? I have virtualised the access bridge folder below if that is any help for anybody..
