I am not sure of their requirements but the labeling on the bottle states it meets or exceeds requirements of both gasoline and diesel engines. I am not involved with the actual bottling of the oils just the manufacture and blending of different components in their full strength form before they are added to the base oils that is then botled. Harlan, I just got through reading the thread that Bill sent. I work for Chevron Oronite Company, we are a Petrochemical part of Chevron. That is the part of Chevron that manufactures the additives that go into lubricating oils. Many other companies use our additives in their engine oils. I use the DELO, D-iesel E-ngine L-ubricating O-il, because it still contains the sufficient amount of Zinc and Phosphorous to protect our flat tappet engines. Along with the Zinc and Phosphorous there is also a small amount of Moly in this oil. Reading the thread just reaffirmed my belief in the products that we make and sell at COC. John L. Re: [Chevelle-list] hood springs
To stretch the spring, use a floor jack. Hook one end of the spring to the rod between the wheels on either side of the craddle and the other end of the spring to the craddle and the pump the lever. This should stretch the spring sufficiently to add the nails as Rick had mentioned. Be thankful that you have a wonderful lady that is willing to "help" with your project, I wish mine was. In fact everyone on the list should feel lucky if they have a wife or "other half" that does not put down this hobby that we love. My wife has yet to even sit in the car since I've had it almost 5 years now. Thinking about it now that might not be such a bad thing, because if she did begin to like it then she would be going with me to all the cruise nights, shows and evening drives I like to take. I told her when I bought it that I bought it for "ME". John L. Oftentimes more than I do. :-) And she's willing to crawl around the engine bay, under the car, and turn wrenches. Re: [Chevelle-list] (no subject)
Pete, I have to agree with Shawn that the MC is at fault here. I was going to mention that there might be air in the line, but if the car was sitting for any length of time then the air could have made it's way back up the line and into the MC therefore "bleeding" themselves of any air. Even new MC's have been known to fail. Like someone earlier said in this thread "s**t happens" sometimes. They are machanical and they will fail. I'm glad for you that it failed in your driveway and not on the highway which would increase the "pucker factor" drastically. [Chevelle-list] MSD 6AL Installation with Pertonix module.
I will be installing an MSD6AL ignition box when I change out my heads. I have a Pertonix ignition module in my stock distributer and the diagram in the MSD box shows a diagram for the installation of the box with Pertonix. My problem is this, the diagram shows to hook the switched line from the ignition switch to the red line off of the Pertonix module and to another line from the MSD box, I don't have the diagram in front of me so I don't remember the color of the wire off of the MSD box but I have two wires coming through the fire wall now hooked to the positive side of the coil along with the red line from the Pertonix module. My question is this, do I hook both of these wires to the red line off of the Pertonix module and the line to the MSD box? Sorry for the long winded post and thanks in advance for any help. John L.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Gearvenders under/over verses 700R4
Herb, did you build up the trans or did you put it in stock? If you did build it up, what did you do to it? Did you do anything to the converter, does it lock up? Everything that I have been seeing here and other places is that people were having problems with snapping the input shafts to the trans. Also without a computer in my '70 will it work properly. I know that I'm asking a lot of questions, just trying to get as much info as possible before I actually tear it down and I would be able to drive it until I finish the work. :( - Original Message - From: Herbert Lumpp To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 11, 2002 8:33 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Gearvenders under/over verses 700R4 Hey John, I swapped a 700R4 into my 76 Vette about 6 or 7 years ago and I think it was one of the best changes I made to that car - to this day that trans works like a charm and with 3.70 rear gears I get 21 mpg on the highway. One thing to keep in mind, especially if your car has a short wheelbase (like a Vette) the Gearvenders adds length to the trans, and from the pictures I've seen, the extra length looks like quite a bit. cYa- Herb Lumpp1966 El CaminoACES 3509, MCC 528http://users.adelphia.net/~hlump/ - Original Message - From: jlon5 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 04, 2002 6:24 AM Subject: [Chevelle-List] Gearvenders under/over verses 700R4 Anyone have any opinions on Gearvenders under/over drive verses a 700R4 tranny swap. I've got a '70 SS396 with a 700R4 that works GREAT! I am also building a '70 vert with a ZZ502. For this project, we were originally going to go with a 700R4, but found that the 700R4 tops out at around 450 ft-lbs of torque. My understanding is that the weak link is the Aluminum input shaft. We decided to switch gears (no pun intended) and went with the TH400/GV setup. However one final noteThere are companies that are addressing the 700R4 limitations. Bow Tie Overdrives in SoCal has a modified 700R4 that will handle up to 600HP. I've already headed down the TH400/GV path, but it might be worth looking into what you can get from a 700R4 these days. Re: [Chevelle-List] tune up
I upgraded to the Petronix Ignitor, not the Ignitor II. The distributor must be pulled to install the first Ignitor that I tried, to check for end play in the distributor because of the use of a magnetic ring under the rotor. I didn't leave it in because I couldn't get it to run with it in, thought it was the Ignitors fault. Got new one in mail and let sit in box on shelf for 5 months. One day I received new Jegs catalog and saw that a different Ignitor module is available that the distributor does not have to be pulled to install, no need to re-time, etc. The new Ignitor has an LS designation in the part number which stands for Lobe Sensor. No gap to check, simply screw onto base plate, feed wires through distributor and connect to coil. Have been using for almost a year with no problems, but sure to follow the directions included very carefully including all checks as you go along. Re: [Chevelle-List] Another Ebay LS6
Ken, I was just talking about that year in particular, '70. My '70 SS has the clear lenses and all the Malibu's that I've seen have the amber lenses. Sorry for the mix up, I wasn't referring to all year SS's. Re: [Chevelle-List] Fall Carlisle
I am staying at the Best Western on US 49 at I 10. Its the only thing I could get on short notice, long story. Where is the KOA, is it on 90 along the beach? I'll be there in my black '70 SS.
