Nothing wrong with a book. But PDF Files are portable. You can save PDF files in your laptop and you can read your books in your office / home / traveling and even in coffee shops. Because your contribution of 'send me free stuff too' is not something that enriches the group nor helps one reach their goal of completing their cisco certifications. There are plenty of repositories of Cisco information across the net for you to peruse. Once the list degenerates into 'send me free stuff too' then it is no longer useful. Most everyone on this list is choosing to work hard, search the web for the information they need, making a fiscal investment for the equipment and sacrificing their time and lives to achieve these certifications. To have their time wasted with your lazy 'send me free stuff too' request is the pinacle of everything this list does not stand for. Try to stay focused in your response next time also. I never mentioned anything about copyright, and you rather trailed off into a mess of insults to the point they didn't even make sense. I think it comes down to a very simple rule: The purpose of this list is to help each other with Cisco studies the LEGAL way - not the ILLEGAL way. If you really want to cheat and you can't find the cracked codes or illegal copies of whatever you're looking for on the Internet - you're probably not smart enough to pass any of these tests anyway. Just want to put in a couple words on a topic I feel passionate about. If people are converting copyrighted books to PDF and giving them away or selling them, that's illegal, unethical, and stupid. Obviously the publishing industry needs to come up with ways to get books to people in formats other than paper, at prices that are affordable around the world, not just in wealthy Silicon Valley. However, the publishing industry will not be able to innovate if people don't pay for what they use. Also, as Howard says, authors will stop creating works if they can't make money on them. So, you're just screwing yourselves when you obtain illegal copies of books, movies, and yes, even music. I think the mentality that it's OK to steal comes from young people who haven't yet created anything. I help out in our local high school in computer classes. I see the light bulbs go on when I tell my kids, "Ten years from now, it may be you creating that cool, new game or video or software application. And you may have spent years and tons of money to produce it. How will you feel if people steal it instead of paying for it?" Usually the kids think about that for a while and see my point. Actually I'm one of the people that would much -prefer- to read a PDF over a book. If I purchase a technical book that has the entire text in PDF format, the only time I actually open the book itself is to get at the CD. There are obvious piracy problems when the contents of a $50 book are available as a PDF, which is a little disappointing. Seeing as I work for a video game publisher I see quite clearly how damaging piracy is to a publisher. Think of some of the heftier Cisco Press books from the CCIE development series. I'd gladly pay $60 for a complete PDF I can read anywhere and keep as reference anywhere instead of paying $60 to have to lug a 20 lb book around! Call me crazy, but using a CD-R as opposed to renting a U-haul to transport my library from home to the office is a bit more appealing. I always read the Cisco Press first, then counter with skimming the Exam Crams. I'm headed for my 3rd exam in 3 weeks & so far the Exam Crams are much much better. In fact- a coworker (who is a big Cisco Press proponent) made the comment after taking BCRAN last night, if he'd used the Exam Cram on more than just the last day of study he would have scored in the 900's. Your scenario is a little different... If you are a new CCNA & new to the field, then all the CCNP exams will be a stretch for you. Keep in mind, CCNP's with no working knowledge have a real tough time (tougher than CCNA's). I work in government contracting & with a lot of paper CCNP's (& CCIE's with very little practical experience). When your experience is not @ your cert. level, contractor companies will pay you less (70% of scale) a bill you 100% of wage (I see some CCNP's @ 60K & government paying just under 150K + benefits money). There are worse ways to start, but it is not a crime to bounce around for a year to get your feet wet. I've bounced around for almost 2 years & am finding the exams much easier than the first time I tried to read the ACRC. Also CCNA's with real experience (can do the job) do make 75 to 100K. I'm not saying it's smart test this theory, but you will not be pigeon holed for taking things @ respectable pace. These are life-time decisions & not of us are going to turn into pumpkins :o) All the best... Suranjith, You can click on my CCNP link below, and see what I used for CCNA 2.0, BCRAN and BCMSN. As for the order, you need to take the CCNA first. After that, it's kind of your own choice, however, CIT should probably be the last, since it's more or less a smaller summary of all the other exams. I think most people do the BSCN, BCMSN, BCRAN and then CIT - but I waited with the BSCN until now because there wasn't really any good reading material out there when I finished my CCNA 2.0. The cisco press most recent ccnp library seems to be the least erroneous of the series out there. I used the CCNP preparation library to study towards the CCNP. Each
book in this series maps very well to the exam outline. I also used
the vast library at cisco.com to solidify any doubts. Also, the boson
tests help keep my mind sharp as to all the "little" details that you
may get hit with while taking each exam. Do a search on bookpool.com
for this series as I found their prices to be much better than some of
the other vendors online. Hope this helped.

Hi, I do not know about switching, but for routing, use "Building Scalable Cisco Networks" from Cisco Press. Also download the IS-IS chapter at cisco web site (search for the free chapter there). Also, buy a set of practice tests you need a lot of practice tests so that the various routing concepts can "stick in" - this is in case you want to do the exam as soon as possible. Good Luck. I've had good luck with the Exam Cram books by Coriolis Press. They have some errors, but they've worked for me. Don't be afraid of the fact that they're for the older test version. The information in these books is still accurate for the new tests. You'll need something to suplement the errors and omissions in these books though. I recommend the Cisco Press CCNP Preparation Library. My method has been to read the Exam Cram books through a couple times and use the Cisco books as reference - they're just way too big to read straight through without falling asleep. I also recommend getting some practice tests. I've used Transcender which are good, but I'm not so sure they've been worth the money. Take a look at some of the cheaper alternatives. I found the Cisco Press and Sybex study guides to be very helpful for completing my CCNP. I also used the Boson test at www.boson.com. They are $40.00 a piece but have been very helpful as well. Hello, You can download the supplements from the Cisco site itself. For eg, they have the supplement for BSCN book, which features IS-IS. So download it and use that. The link to the site of course is www.cisco.com and search for the missing topic. As for the exam, I would suggest to definitely print out the course outline first and make sure you have covered all the topics. If you think something is missing in the old book, just get it off the site. There is more material on the site than you would need for the paper. But it is definitely very comprehensive and handy too.
