Re: [slim] bigger antenna improvements?

2005-07-20 Thread Greg Klanderman

When did you get your SB1? I got mine in January, and initially had
problems with wireless signal strength which were solved with help
from Rico at Slimdevices support. Here are the relevant emails:

| That's pretty recent so I'm fairly certain your player will have the
| purple colored card.. for some reason one of the sma connectors on the
| card does not provide the same performance as the one on the opposite
| side. Hopefully changing that will improve wireless performance for
| you.

| you may be able to remedy the wireless issues you are having.. use
| it to unscrew the four screws on the bottom of the Squeezebox and
| take the top off the unit. If there is a purple wireless card
| inside, go ahead and disconnect the antenna tail from the wireless
| card and reconnect it to the hole on the opposite side of the card,
| farthest from the display. If the player has a white wireless card
| or if you would rather send it in let me know.

For mt-daapd on the LinkStation:

Unpack the archive to your LinkStation filesystem root. Then run the

[slim] Squeezebox2 / SlimServer / LS1

2005-07-20 Thread JonM
Hello,

Hope someone here can help, I only have 2 days to sort this problem out before I
lose the option of returning the Squeezebox.

I have a LS1 running PPC Openlink 0.51b, SlimServer 6.1b2 installed, a Belkin
Pre-N wireless AP and a Squeezebox2 running v14 of the firmware.

Now just to start I am not a Linux expert but I can find my way round an O/S.

For some reason the Squeezebox2 keeps losing contact with the SlimServer, the
audio stutters and the internet radio is intermittant, Now I don't know why this
is, I am sure it is not the wireless AP as I have a PC connected 2 floors down
that has no connection problems and the squeezebox is less that 3 meters away
from the AP.

I am wondering if there are any extra processes loaded with PPC Openlink 0.51b
that are not really needed for running the LS1 and the SlimServer install? Is
there anything running I can get rid of.

Or are there any aother issues / things I can do to solve this. Do I have a duff
Squeezebox2? Are there any SLimServer settings I should use? I really want this
to work but if it is not going to then I'm going to send it back

I'm going to post this on other forums as well so if you see it again apologies
but I am on a tight time scale.

Hope someone out there can help.

[slim] 2 players, 1 network = stopped working

2005-07-20 Thread Derek Redpath
I have two Squeezebox2's, one in my lounge, one in my bedroom. When I first
got them they worked perfectly but after having the one in the bedroom
disconnected for a number of days whilst redecorating, I now cannot get
them both working again.

When I power up the first player it works fine and appears in slimserver as
192.168.1.102. Then when I power up the second player it sort of
'overrides' the first one and appears in slimserver as 192.168.1.103, and
102 is gone. If I power them up in reverse order then 102 overrides 103.
With both players powered up the first one locks up completely and refuses
to respond to remote commands, and the second player's response to remote
commands is very erratic (although it can still be controlled from slimserver).

I cannot get both players to appear simultaneously in slimserver as they
used to, only the player plugged in last appears in slimserver. Both
players work perfectly when the other is disconnected.

The same thing happens if I use static IP addresses.

As far as I know nothing has changed in my setup. I have unplugged
everything else from my router (Linksys WAG54G) so that I have only the two
players and the PC running slimserver plugged in.

Running latest version of slimserver (6.0.2 - 3085) and player firmware
(11). Windows XP pro.

I'm at my wits end. Anyone have any ideas?

[slim] SB2 Stops Responding

2005-07-20 Thread MeSue

I've barely had my SB2 a week. The last two nights it has locked up
during the night while my PC was idle, but not at the same time each
night. I know the time because the clock gets stuck there. Last night
it was 2:21 AM and the previous time it was 9:12 AM.

When I returned to my PC, everything was running fine, but I had left
the SlimServer web interface open in my browser, and it would not
respond to clicks. The taskbar icon said SlimServer Running but when
I stopped SlimServer and tried to start it again, it just stayed stuck
on SlimServer Starting and never completed. I had to restart my PC to
get it working again.

I have checked the Windows event logs and can't find anything happening
at those times that I can attribute to this, and I have no idea what
could be causing this. The only vague idea I have is that the last two
nights I had an Adobe Updater running in the background that was set to
download updates while my computer was idle. It finished today so I
shouldn't have that again tonight.

I am running the 7/14 nightly of 6.1b2. Does anyone have suggestions
for troubleshooting this?

You can edit the MAC address by pressing RIGHT when displaying it.

BUT FIRST...
What is the MAC address listed?
What are the MAC addresses listed on the bottom of the players?

We have seen in a few cases where a bug in the firmware on the player
resets the MAC address. We've fixed at least one of the bugs, but
want to make sure we get them all. The more details you send us,

gotta start somewhere. I did!
before digging into slimserver, I know barely enough to read in a filename,
re-arrange it and rename the file to a standard pattern. Even that was only
learned from examples. now I use Perl all the time to simplify repetetive
tasks at work. Stick up a web page front end, and everyone else gets to use it.
I'm still no Perl expert, but there are a lot of examples and resources

what about press-and-hold power to reset the player. When it starts up, you

You'll need to be in the player setup area (what comes up when you
first plug the player in.) Press and hold POWER for five seconds to
restart your player and then scroll down to View Current Settings
then RIGHT there and scroll to the MAC address.

It was also no longer in the PL directory. Guessing references in DB.
Rescan and dropping DB has no effect as well as deleting cache dir. -
still can't see old lists but ghost PL is gone now. New PLs seem OK
but need to wait til auto rescan to night and see if my alarm wakes me
