ok, trademark rights... it does not change the nature of the problem. you are right also about million of words... the statistic also says that few people on this earth may overcome a hundred thousand limit, most are below or much below ten thousand. Please do not take me wrong. I am not to offend anybody neither to start a polemic. The point is: "Monster" is widely spread and used word. And according to the low in many countries it is not allowed to do so. Just thing is MS would be successful to make a patent on several programming commands like "goto" "if" and some others... the attempt was in place, but likely it was refused. There is a low and common sense It is like internet name occupation for later sales It should be prohibited to sue someone who does not abuse your trademark by being in another business, neither to allow registration in the areas where company has no business in. -- AndreE AndreE's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30476 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55787 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] LAN - no password, WAN - password. Possible?
Just wondering if this is possible. When I access my SqueezeCenter within my LAN, I obviously do not want to be bothered with entering a username and password everytime. Playlists are just .m3u files (formatted text); so you can edit them in lots of other tools (e.g. foobar2000, MediaMonkey) or even a plain text editor. However, once you've done that you'll have to tell SqueezeCenter to rescan (playlists only, or new/changed music) to pick them up. AndreE;426357 Wrote: > Just think. The copyright allows having any word or word combination > patented/protected by copyrights... > > Anything what we say would be violating one or another patent/copyright > claim... Let's be clear: this concerns neither patents nor copyright. Monster are asserting trademark rights, and they have a history of doing so in an aggressive and often unmerited manner. A word should only be registered as a trademark if it is not one that other honest traders would legitimately want to use (eg a descriptive or laudatory word). Moreover, a trademark is registered for specific goods and services provided by the owner. The vice arises where a trademark owner unreasonably attempts to monopolise his mark in respect of unrelated goods or services of a third party; eg a cable seller trying to prevent a mini-golf provider from using the same name. Pretty much every business has at least one trademark, and will be careful to prevent its improper use by competitors. A TM is a valuable asset. As shown by Lotus (shoes), Lotus (software) and Lotus (sports cars) there is no reason why a non-descriptive word should not function as a distinctive trademark for several different - and non-competing - concerns without inconveniencing the public in any way. Unfortunately, Monster don't seem to see things that way... -- Peter314 Peter314's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14028 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55787 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

It's more than just a boom... I was talking to someone a few months ago from Logitech, and told them that while I loved the Boom, it was still just a little too big for me to consider it an bedside alarm clock... What I was looking for was something much smaller (like the old Sony Dream Machine clocks)... I told them that I really didn't care if it was stereo or mono...just that it be made for a bedroom side table... When I finished (and again, this was a couple of months ago), the person told me "just wait...we are coming out with something that is just what you are looking for"... I doubt they will come out with a mono "cube" sized unit... It'll probably be more like a rectangle shaped product so that they can fit two small stereo speakers in it... AndreE;426358 Wrote: > It would be great if someone could state something about possibility to > have Remote connected dynamically to different receivers. You might be missing the fact that while the SBC can connect to your network via an SBR, the commands for controlling your audio are *not* directly communicated between the SBC and SBR. When you make a selection on the SBC it uses the ad hoc connection to the SBR to send the commands to SqueezeCenter or SqueezeNetwork, which then sends the command to the appropriate SBR. So even if the SBC is only *connected* to one SBR, it can *control* as many SBRs as you have. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63736 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Stop The Monster cable Bullying
It is really sad story and creasy way of doing business No ethic and no excuse Just think. The copyright allows having any word or word combination patented/protected by copyrights. And human vocabulary is relatively small, not more than some thousand words. The amount of reasonable combinations is bigger, but not much. The amount of positive words or combinations is much smaller. And if any creasy company will make a claim for any basic word this would be just a problem, because there is just one step to the point where we would need to be just silent. Anything what we say would be violating one or another patent/copyright claim... And may be at that point of time it would become clear that this low is a bit too wrong, especially how it is applied in some countries (sorry, guys, nothing personal) -- AndreE AndreE's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30476 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55787 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] controlling several wired Receivers with one Controller and no wifi AP?"
I can only give you a partial answer on this. The Duet is capable of working without a wifi network. When you set up the SB Controller (SBC) and the first SB Receiver (SBR), do it so that the SBC connects to your network via the SBR. You can then go about setting up the other SBRs. Once set up, you can control the various SBRs from a single SBC by using the "Choose Player" menu option. What I do NOT know for certain is whether the SBC can connect to the network via different SBRs. I don't think it can, but I'm not sure. If I am correct, then you should be sure that the SBR you choose to serve as a bridge from the SBC to your network is centrally located, so that the signals between it and your SBC are sufficiently strong wherever you are using the SBC. Hope this helps. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63736 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Ive been asking many questions related to the subject, receiving many replies I was a bit lost in few topics This is the one of those: I have wired land and not WiFi at home at all. And I am planning to have at least two, potentially maybe three or four SqueezBox Duo receivers connected to the LAN via cable. Quite an attitude in the first reply to that thread. "It's a cheaper product that usually appeals to those who can't afford Sonos." Wow... never though of myself as an "el cheapo" customer. :| Also, multiroom functionality is now perfect on a wired connection (can't speak about wireless as I would never trust flawless music playback to Wi-Fi, which is prone to interference, no matter what Sonos might be stating...).
