I meant 10 inch diagonal touch screen so I could run something like the web UI (and also browse the net). The device would detach from a base station that was also a charger and had all the audio gubbins it. The base would connect to the hi-fi. The "tablet" could be used docked in the base or on my lap/around the house. At least this way I could actually see what was on the screen! I don't need it to be an audio player - just a control interface. However, I guess others would want a player capability via headphones or a line-out. The tablet would talk to the base via wi-fi (unless docked when they would talk directly). The base would have the ability to run SC internally and connect to USB disks etc - or to connect via wi-fi/ethernet to a traditional external SC server. The ability to use the tablet screen as a basic photo frame/ image browser/ video player would be excellent. One advantage of a tablet sized device is bigger batteries. Having an integral carrying handle that could double as a table stand or retract completely would be neat. It doesn't have to be 10 inches - but at least 7. The real icing on the cake would be the ability to open a thin-client remote control interface onto a host SC PC so that ripping, tagging etc could be managed remotely if required. The server PC could then be headless. I'm starting to wonder how close I could get to this with available tablet technologies and the current SB range? -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... No such thing exists, although a few people have expressed the wish for it in these forums. The nearest I got to it was adding an Icecast pluggin to MediaMonkey and setting Squeezecenter to stream the resulting URL. That way SC streams from your own private radio station that plays whatever MediaMonkey is playing (with a few seconds buffering latency). I used very high bit-rate Ogg/Vorbis format for the stream and it sounded okay. A similar solution could probably be adapted from the the DSBridge for Spotify that was introduced recently to forum readers. Re: [slim] 3 questions - harmony one, signal problems, and multiple libraries
The Harmony One can duplicate the commands sent by the IR remote that comes with the Squeezebox Classic. I have a Harmony One, and it works fine to control the basic functions of SB in my home theater system. However, it's not a substitute for the Controller, which has a wireless connection to your server. For that, you either need to buy the controller itself or an app like iPeng for the iPhone or iPod Touch (which is what I use). -- corbey corbey's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64873 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Radio Free Colorado is back online streaming at 192 kbps MP3
Hello, FYI Radio Free Colorado .radiofreecolorado.net is back online and streaming live Classic and Modern Rock at 192 kbps MP3. The .pls file is: .radiofreecolorado.net/playlist_files/RFC_playlist_192.pls The SHOUTcast server URL is: .sc10.24server.com:30726 The operator of Radio Free Colorado is (or was?) in the Army. Apparently now returned from duty in Iraq he has the station up and running again. I am relieved, as there are very, very few Rock & Roll stations streaming above 128 kbps. The music library of Radio Free Colorado is very large so you won't hear the same songs over and over again. I have the Digital output of my Audigy soundcard hooked into my Sony 5.1 channel Hi-fi and WOW you can really hear a fidelity difference listening to RFC. Add www in front of the URL's I posted since this is my first post here. So tune in and give a listen. [slim] Computer Won't Stay In Standby Mode When SqueezeCenter Is Running
Hello. I've been struggling w/ an issue for, oh, about a year now and just thought I'd post to see if anyone has any ideas. Basically, when I put my computer into standby mode it won't stay in standby mode if SqueezeCenter is running. It wakes up after approximately 1 minute and won't go back to Standby Mode. I've had it working the way I want periodically since I bought my Transporter last summer and its acting up again. I just upgraded to 7.3.3 around the same time I "upgraded" my Antivirus software that comes w/ my Togers Internet package up here in Canada. Cana anyone thin of any settings I might check? I'm running Windows XP. [slim] Media monkey as frontend to control a SqueezeBox
I just started musing Media Monkey to manage my music library. So far I'm pretty happy with it. It has a pretty slick frontend. It occurred to me that it would be nice to be able to control a squeezebox via the media monkey interface. I would think that this would be possible, but I don't know how much development effort it would require. Does such a thing already exist? Re: [slim] New "Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch" spotted !!
Another issue about product testing is that the product doesn't work in a closed environment - the product needs to interwork with many different changing systems which means there is large number of combinations and it is generally impossible to test all. Furthermore, the product will connect with different OSs and routers and after product is released new version of OS and routers will appear and may cause problems. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] New "Logitech MM STREAM Squeezebox Touch" spotted !!
Mushroom_3;435519 Wrote: > Not something I'd admit to. That piece of kit was let out the door far > too soon in my opinion. I wasn't a beta tester for that kit, but generally it's not beta testers making release decisions. Also, from my own experience: You can beta test until you are blue in the face, you will NEVER be able to find all issues, ESPECIALLY systems interaction issues (which make up for a good part of Controller's issues). If you've got 100 beta testers than immediately after the beta test you will find out about those other 9 trillion routers out there in the market. My share of issues iPeng had in the past that NEVER showed up in the beta test for iPeng but immediately after the beta in the releases: - The "The The" issue - The Thecus Artwork sizing issue (actually a Thecus issue) - The large .bmp embedded artwork issue - The really, really gigantic database issue (currently the biggest DB iPeng is tested against had 247.000 tracks, waiting for complaints from people having 7mil tracks) - The "Player has no name" issue (actually, not a legal condition in SC, happens anyhow) Actually, the "The The" issue is even an especially good example, that one was one of the issues I identified early on (and worked around), yet the workaround got lost during an update and no one found that issue. The only way around these kind of issues is systematic testing meaning you do a comprehensive design of your overall system COMPLETELY defining the intended behavior if the system upfront and designing a comprehensive set of positive and negative test cases plus systematic testing of this. Now there is absolutely NO WAY that you can ever afford that approach for a consumer electronics product. Experience from IT projects shows that your testing and integration effort if you do it this way WELL exceeds the actual development effort, ESPECIALLY WRT required time. So yes, we will have to live with soft and hardware that will be flawed unless we all start buying stuff that has the features of two years ago at four times the price of current equipment. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64706 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
[slim] SlimTris crashes SB and SC (7.3.3)
Hi, I had a strange problem with my SB3 the other day and thought nothing of it, but the same happened on my Boom yesterday so wondered if it's a bug? All I did was opened SlimTris and started a game, when the 1st block came down I pushed it all the way to the right with the remote, this then made the SB3/Boom un-responsive to any buttons except holding down the power for 5 seconds. It then tries unsuccessfully to get an IP address. I have to do a reset but once connected it can't find SC until I reboot my server! So it seems playing SlimTris crashed both my SB's and SqueezeCenter! -- dave77 dave77's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=26269 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64938 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Request for program.
Hello, does anyone know of a free program that can compare 2 folders and tell you what you are missing in one of them? I had an external hard drive fail but had it backed up but I am having problems copying all the contents from the backup to a new drive. I have to do it manually for some unknown reason but it crashed on me and now I have missing about 20gigs of music. It seems to be an album here and there so it's a big hassle. Just hoping that something is out there that is free and easy to solve my problem. Thanks in advance. Re: [slim] HowTo- Install SqueezeSlave as a Windows Service
I am trying to get Squeezeslave to run as a service on a Vista 64 bit system, and have tried to follow the suggested instructions, but am having some security issues I think ... I have read somewhere that srvany is of limited use in Vista systems due to the "improved" security. I can get squeezeslave to run ok from a command line ... I can wrap the command up in a batch file and have it run on login, but of course I then get the ugly DOS window left over. And in any case I would really like it to be running without a login - i.e. as a service! But when I try to run the instsrv command I get a message along the lines of "you're not authorised to do that", though I had logged in with an admin account. Could anyone that has made this work on Vista offer some clues, please?
