I'm using a Touch.

What's even more infuriating is I can access my MySB Favourites page
on the Mac, but the Touch refuses to connect. As a result most of the
menu items don't work.

I still wonder if it's connected with SBS 7.6 as I never used to get
problems this frequently or this bad.

Re: [slim] Logitech servers down in the UK again?

OK, it's resolved itself now after leaving the Touch unplugged for a few
minutes and rebooting.

Initially when the menu started playing up on the Touch I couldn't
connect using the Mac. However, it seemed to be a fleeting glitch, and,
although it worked fine on the computer, for several minutes the Touch
refused to connect to MySB, and as I mentioned, it seemed to need to be
unplugged for a few minutes before it worked properly.

How long until the next time though? This seems to be happening once
every day or 2 days at present.

[slim] MP3Tunes.com alternative?

2011-08-27 Thread ChaoticMike

Hi people. I'm at the end of my tether with MP3Tunes.com. I have a
premium subscription, for which I get zero useful customer support as
far as I can tell. Recently the service has refused to play newly
uploaded tracks (I'm well within my storage limit) and I am getting no
joy whatsoever from their technical support. Also there are many
occasions when previously listenable music doesn't play - I get gateway
timeout messages, sometimes the tracks just get skipped for no reason.

So, are there any Squeezebox compatible alternatives? I don't mind
paying! The name of the game is not to have a local server consuming
my electricity bill when I'm not around, nor do I wish to have to
invest significant money in yet another device that might be more power
efficient - I already have more elderly computers lying around the house
than I know what to do with!

Can the power of the community help me?

Cheers then...

Mike

I had the same symptoms as you quite some time ago. It all seemed to go
bad when they did some major server migration. I spent hours working
with their tech support people which seemed at the time to resolve the
problems - involved me finally having to re-establish all my tracks. I
tried again last week after a few weeks of non-use ... it seems that
it's all fallen apart again - missing tracks, etc.

I'll see if I can resurrect the e-mail address and contact them again.

Re: [slim] Blocking Incoming Connections...

2011-08-27 Thread staresy

Hi thanks for the reply. That's exactly how I set it up but I notice
that the ip address of the remote location has change - probably
because it's a dynamic address allocated by the isp and the remote
rouuter has been rebooted.

Any easy way around this? My thought is to open up the remote address
to zzz.xxx.yyy.* to allow a range of address in - this would work on
the assumption that the ISP would only ever allocate an IP address
within a fixed range.

Is that a reasonable assumption? If not what are my other options...?

I've long thought it would be a great opportunity for someone else to

Roku implemented the slimproto without a license and I think there have
been other clients for other hardware such as Chumby and mclient with
MediaMVP box.

The problem has been the 3rd party hardware vendor has to play catch up
with Logitech as slimproto gets tweaked in different versions. This can
take a lot of effort. It may be easier now as there is no fw
development for IP3K players.

A confusing issue is to make transcoding work roku emulated an SB1
then the server knew which kind of files and streams it could use and
trans-coded accordingly .
So anyone doing this have to do something similar, then it is the UI
interface stuff...

If the players abilities does not really match any squeezebox then such
a vendor has to provide a server patch or similar .

This is why there is standard interfaces such as DNLA but apearently it
has limits ?

We can always hope for a more advanced media player/server standard
interface in the future ?

No.

IIRC UPNP (of which DLNA is a subset) only supports the player to
select, setup and start an audio stream. If two players were to be in
sync then the two player would have to communicate with each other with
a proprietary protocol and arrange sync between themselves - the server
is intended to be minimal - it just provides a stream of data.

Olive, Linn and Naim, to name a few, seem to offer such possibility,
though.
But as you say, and AFAIK, this relies on third-party proprietary
technology on top of UPnP/DLNA.

[slim] Help, Squeezebox 3 won't connect to wireless network

2011-08-27 Thread Deco-Doctor

My squeezebox 3 has benn running for months connected to my wireless
network. Today I wanted to use it temporarily as a wireless bridge. I
powered off and connected a crossover cable to another PC.

When I powered on again the SB asked if I wanted to connect in wireless
bridge mode, but it wanted to go through all the network settings and I
had to re-enter my 64bit wireless WEP key again. But whatever I try it
will not connect to my wireless network again.

I have checked the WEP is correct at the wireless router and the SB,
but to no avail. I have made a factory reset on the SB, but it still
won't connect.

It finds the SSID OK after the factory reset, but fails to connect to
the wireless router. I can connect with an ethernet cable OK.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Martin

Still having issues with the web interface tho - i can only use the

I'm running SC on a Mac G5 using Safari, which has always worked very
well. As far as I know no settings were changed and Safari works fine
for other sites etc.
Anyone else seen anything like this??

Since the * there only allows for 256 different addresses, you might
have to use zzz.xxx.* You can also turn-on user/password.

What OS/version is the SBS host? I use remote desktop (securely) to let
me get remote control of the SBS host so I can unblock addresses
remotely. If you have Windows Home versions, you can use VNC to do the
same thing. (There are also patches that add RDP to Home versions- no
warranty expressed or implied.) Home versions contain the program to
take over a remote machine but they do not include being remotely
controlled- VNC is a free program that provides this function to/from
any Windows/Mac/Unix/Linux systems.) In either of these cases you'll
also open ports on your modem/router and the SBS host would absolutely
have to have a user (as opposed to a SBS) password.

If you are into programming you can google dynamic IP notify for some
free programs that can run on the remote system. They monitor the IP and
send an email when it changes.

I've never used bridging but isn't possible that the SB3 exposes the MAC
address of the network card of the attached device, instead of its own
MAC address ?
In this case, make sure the router does not use a list of MAC addresses
for access control (or add the MAC of the attached device)

Heard good things about musicIP so tried to install and use it. I think
I am doing something wrong. I have followed general install
instructions and can now see that all tracks (when viewed through

generate a playlist however all it does is list more information about
the track. All help as usual much appreciated.

Re: [slim] How to make musicIP work

2011-08-27 Thread aubuti

The letter M icon has a new meaning as of SBS 7.6.0 and later. On the
left side of the web ui it means More, which is what you're seeing.
On the right side of the web ui (ie, the playlist pane) it means
generate Music IP mix. The balloon tool tips also indicate this.

Also note that the M icon in the web ui is but one of many ways of
generating a MusicIP mix, depending on the particular player and/or
remote you are using.

You don't want to just remove the ID3 fields (or frames), you want to
remove the whole ID3 tag. You can do this very easily with Mp3tag by
cutting and then immediately pasting the tags (Ctrl-X, Ctrl-V). All
tags will be removed, but the ID3 tag will not be rewritten when you
paste.

And if you haven't already done so, make sure you also configure EAC to
not add ID3 tags when you rip Flac files.

It's a reasonable assumption, although it will allow about 250 other
people to connect. :)

SBS tells me that Block Incoming Connections only applies to HTTP and
CLI connections. It may not work for players, only for browsers. It
only seems to want addresses, and not names.

If it works with names, you could register the remote player with a
DDNS provider.

Re: [slim] How to make musicIP work

2011-08-27 Thread aubuti

If there's no 'M' in the right pane then it's possible you don't have
MusicIP installed correctly. That happens a lot.

Try this: on your SB Controller, with an active track in the Now
Playing screen or a highlighted track in the current playlist, press
the + button on the SB Controller. Scroll down a ways and you should
see an option Create MusicIP Mix. See what happens when you select
that.

The balloon tool tips are simply little popups that describe what the
button does. For example, on the left side of the SBS web ui, if you
hover the mouse cursor over M it says More. Likewise, + says Add
to Current Playlist, etc.

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

2011-08-27 Thread pcourtney

the mysqueezebox.com domain is hosted by Amazon Data Services in Dublin,
the IP address for the website/service/domain is 79.125.18.68

I had a quick look at the UDAP fields for you, and it might be possible
to use the field IP address of either Squeezenetwork or local server

Squeezenetwork was the name before mysqueezebox.com came along !

server_address:79.125.18.68

UDAP fields
lan_gateway: IP address of default network gateway, (e.g. 192.168.1.1)
lan_network_address: IP address of device, (e.g. 192.168.1.10)
lan_subnet_mask: Subnet mask of local network, (e.g. 255.255.255.0)
primary_dns: IP address of primary DNS server
secondary_dns: IP address of secondary DNS server
server_address: IP address of either Squeezenetwork or local server
squeezecenter_address: IP address of local Squeezecenter server
squeezecenter_name: Name of local Squeezecenter server

but there are better informed people than myself who may give you more
sound advice, but it is worth a try, given how easy it is to use Robins
utility, try it out, try various settings out, always safe in the
knowledge that you can reset all the fields back to your current config

Re: [slim] Net::UDAP - SqueezeBox Receiver configuration tool

2011-08-27 Thread Mnyb

You should be able to switch players to mysqueezebox.com and back with
SBS web-UI.
if you don't own a controller or pad/phone app that does it.

On the home page.

have the player you want to control chosen on the rigth side.

And then on the left side.

Extrasmusicsourcemysqueezebox.com

To get it back, use the player dropdown menu, it reports wich players
that are conected to mysqueezebox.com.

Some reservations.

This functionality have been broken inmsome versions :-/ I can't
remeber which.
You must ofcourse have mysqueezebox.com integration on in you local SBS
and your login entered in to SBS settings.

Regarding using mysb.com ip with udap, sure . If I recal corectly there
are at least 3 datacenters Eu Us west coast and east cost, these had
different ip's a couple of years ago.
