[Evolution] Printing broken in Evolution/Debian?

2022-07-15 Thread Chris Ramsden via evolution-list
I wanted to save an email message as a pdf.

When I try to print from Evolution to the default "print to file"
option, it fails with this message:

The printer replied “Error opening file
“/home/chris/Documents/20220714205348_@RISK:_The_Consensus_Security_V
ulnerability_Alert:_Vol._22,_Num._28.pdf”: No such file or
directory”.

The actual text has two unprintable characters following each of the â
characters. In this environment, an unprintable character is shown as a
glyph depicting a 2x2 grid filled with ones and noughts.

Same if the target is postscript or svg (though I have to say I don't
know what the svg option would do!)

I installed a virtual PDF printer in CUPS, which normally isn't
necessary. When I print to that, the error message in Evo is 'The
printer replied “Printer not found”.'

Other programs print successfully to both of these printers. I can
print the same message from an alternative email client. Every message
I have tried to print in Evo fails in the same way.

And finally, I tried printing to a real printer.

[Evolution] Evolution Windows 10 build query

2022-02-23 Thread Chris Caston
Hello,

Although I have got evolution working through WSL2/Ubuntu & VcXsrv I want
to know if it is currently possible to build it on Windows 10 using MSYS2.

Are there any build instructions that are more up to date than the
readme.txt in the win32 folder?
(https://github.com/GNOME/evolution/tree/master/win32/readme.txt) (last
update four years ago)

It says:
* Note the build itself is outdated also due to *
* no WebKit2 of WebKitGTK+ for Windows. *
* It is waiting for: *
* https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137488 *

Should I try with WinCairo?

best regards,

Re: [Evolution] Problem setting up iCloud account in Evolution - Folder parse error

2021-04-21 Thread Chris via evolution-list
Hi all,

Ubuntu MATE 20.04.2
Evolution 3.36.4-0ubuntu1 (installed with apt)

I am also seeing the "Error fetching folders: Parse Error (took> 0ms)"
error with iCloud accounts. Two separate users, different icloud
accounts, both working until around yesterday. Settings unchanged, it
just stopped working.

As advised by Milan, I ran the $ CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io evolution
command. Output as below.

any suggestions?

I looked into the key management tools offered by my distro and found
they were not working well - in fact hanging when trying to import
keys.

I installed gpg2 and gpg-agent and a) key import started working, and
b) the troublesome messages are now all rendered properly in Evolution.

Again, thank you for your time on this.

Hey, thank you for looking into this.

Without doing the diagnostics, I do know that other signed messages are
handled properly, almost always with the warning that the key isn't
known.

Two issues arising::

1. Does Evolution have any tools or support for downloading public keys
etc? I've used such a capability in other email clients. Do I need to
learn how to use gpg directly at the command line?

2. How can I get a later version of the binary for Evolution? My
Debian-based distro (LMDE) offers only 3.30.5-1.1.

Thanks!

Thank you, that got it working.

I ran with logging, but couldn't see any events being logged when I
selected and attempted to open the affected messages. I reasoned that
if they were cached, there wouldn't be any traffic.

I closed evo, renamed the folder's maildir file in ~/.cache/evolution
and restarted evo with the logging enabled and redirected to a text
file. Then waited about an hour for that folder to be indexed.

In that text file I can find the text of the missing messages, so I can
see that they have downloaded fine. But when viewed in evo, just the
""Retrieving message “48039”" advice in the message view pane. The
status bar sticks at "Parsing message". Again, this appears to be
consistent for all messages from the two posters known to use pgp
signatures.

Anything else I can pick out of this to help?

No sign (that I can see) of anything untoward in the log dump.

Milan,

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

Can you clarify exactly how I use this command line? Entered as-is into a bash
terminal, it tells me it can't find imapx. If I add it as a set of arguments to
an invocation of evolution, evo tells me it can't open the given URIs.

I'd copy and paste from the terminal session, but I'm on a different computer,
and supposed to be at work, on this windows POS.

What am I doing wrong here? (Apart from using Windows...)

Actually, it's lemley, not lermer, and he posts to a different list.

However, the commonality is that all three posters sign their messages, e.g.:

Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha256;
 protocol="application/pgp-signature";
 boundary="xog4cCwU6bIyblkpgGRgHjPJCFIiWOD3r"

Do I need to acquire their public keys? Switch something on in Evo?

I subscribe to a debian mail list and read its messages via gmail.
Evo consistently fails to retrieve messages from three specific regular
contributors to that list. These same messages can be read in other
clients (Thunderbird, The Bat!)

I would invite anyone interested to subscribe to
https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/ to see if this replicates for
them.

If you try it, look for messages from wanderer, tuxteam and lermer. In
my case, Evo shows a message similar to "Retrieving message “48039”".

This is persistent; workarounds such as switching away to another
folder and back don't fix it.

Gnome,

I don't use mail merge myself very often but having also come here from
Thunderbird, and having even advised Thunderbird users to try the
Libre/Open Office method, I am familiar with the concept and practice
of mail merge and I am very disappointed at the response (or should I
call it denial?) you have received here. I'm surprised that you've had
to explain it. I'd have hoped for a response more on the lines of "we
understand what you want, but sorry, we aren't planning on doing that."

I don't think I'll be staying with Evo. Lousy printing and absolutely
no control of fonts in sent HTML messages. Too many clicks to do things
where I'm accustomed to keyboard shortcuts.

Shame, it looked promising at first.

Chris.

[Evolution] send account override

2019-08-20 Thread Chris Pollock via evolution-list
For one of the mailing lists I'm on I want to use my Gmail account
instead of my default account. Under properties for the mailing list
folder I set the send account override to my Gmail address. When I'm in
the mailing list folder and click, from the top menu, Message > Mailing
List > Post Message to List it comes up as my default send address
which is not what I want. If I just click 'New' from the top menu it
comes up with the correct send address however I have to enter the
mailing list 'To' address. I would think that if I had the send account
override set to my Gmail address if would work either way or am I
wrong?

[Evolution] Question on searching within current folder

2018-11-10 Thread Chris Pollock via evolution-list
This Evolution 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 When searching within the body
of messages in the current folder with advanced search for a message
that contains this:

cups_HP_LaserJet_1020

the messages containing the above are listed however the search term is
not highlighted as I'd think it would be. If I do a search for just
'cups' in advanced search the messages containing it are listed but not
highlighted. Searching for cups in the search bar will list the
messages containing the term in the body and highlight the term in
yellow.

The following Evo files were updated on 09/24:

evolution-data-server-common:amd64 (3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1, 3.28.5-
0ubuntu0.18.04.1)
evolution-common:amd64 (3.28.1-2, 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1)
evolution-data-server:amd64 (3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1, 3.28.5-
0ubuntu0.18.04.1)
evolution-plugin-bogofilter:amd64 (3.28.1-2, 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1)
evolution-plugin-pstimport:amd64 (3.28.1-2, 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
evolution-plugins:amd64 (3.28.1-2, 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
evolution-data-server-online-accounts:amd64 (3.28.3-0ubuntu0.18.04.1,
3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1)
evolution:amd64 (3.28.1-2, 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.1)

It appears to me that searching with an '_' will find and list the
messages containing the term but not highlight the term within the
message for some reason also searching for something like 'PDF' or
'pdf' will not highlight the term since it comes after an underscore.
Oddly enough searching for just '1020' in the search bar will find and
highlight it but it won't highlight LaserJet or HP. I hope I'm not
being too confusing.

Any ideas on why, to me, search is not working correctly? Is this a bug
that should be reported?

[Evolution] When expunging Evolution trash folder lots of output to syslog - vee_message_info_get_flags: Failed to get orig uid

2018-09-02 Thread Chris via evolution-list
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release: 18.04

apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
Installed: 3.28.1-2
Candidate: 3.28.1-2

When expunging just one deleted message from the trash folder this is
written to syslog - Note: This is on an IMAP account on my home
desktop.

This is repeated and goes on for about 40 lines. If multiple messages
are 'Expunged' from the trash folder the above is written to syslog for
each message.

This happens when going to the Trash folder, right click and select
'Empty Trash'. However, if I stay in the folder the messages were
deleted from and use 'Ctrl-e' to expunge the folder this doesn't
happen.

The same thing happens when expunging the trash folder on non-IMAP
account.

Is there anything I can check or any Evo debug commands I can run to
try and track this down? This has only started since my upgrade from
16.04LTS to 18.04LTS.

[Evolution] Change default "from" address with GMail (Gnome Online Account)

2016-04-10 Thread Chris Black
I need to set the "From" address for a GMail account linked to Evolution
via Gnome Online Accounts. Setting "Reply-to" isn't enough, since
people still accidentally end up saving and using the "From" address
anyway. Gmail's web interface and Thunderbird both allow this, but in
Evolution I can only find an option to type it manually per-message.

Is this an option somewhere that I've overlooked? I'm using Evolution
3.18.1 on a fresh install of Fedora 23. I'd be happy to explain the
use-case if needed.

[Evolution] EDS 3.16, CalDAV and FastMail (Allows header disagreement)

2015-08-18 Thread Chris Schooley
Hello. Long-time user, first time poster,

I've been follwing the threads on "read-only CalDAV issues" in 3.16
becaue I'm running 3.16.5-1 and I use FastMail's Cal/CardDAV services. I
contacted them about the issue yesterday and referenced the following
threads from this mailing list:

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2015-May/msg00104.html
https://mail.gnome.org/archives/evolution-list/2015-May/msg00096.html

To summarize the above links: evolution-data-server's caldav backend is
looking for a 'PUT' and 'DELETE' verb in the Allows header to determine
if it can write to a CalDAV collection. FastMail do not include the
'PUT'. Feeling that this was a provider configuration issue I contacted
FastMail and asked them to look into the issue.

Here was their response (their words not mine):

>We had one other Evolution user report the same issue. We checked with our
>engineers and it appears what Evolution is doing is >wrong. This is what they
>mentioned:
>
>---
>The Evolution developers are wrong - you can't PUT to the collection, only to
>resources within the collection.
>
>It can check if it can PUT any particular resource (and it will get "Allow:
>PUT" for any resource) but we don't support PUT on >collections because it
>doens't make sense to PUT to a collection. Evolution should be using the ACL
>extension or just trying a >write if it wants to know if it's allowed to write.
>---

As a troubleshooting step/workaround I removed the check for PUT from
evolution-data-server/src/evolution-data-server-3.16.5/calendar/backends/caldav/e-cal-backend-caldav.c
at line 1248 and I was able to execute all CRUD operations on
Cal/CardDAV data witout issue. I am comfortable (not thrilled) managing
this as part of my system's "ports" process, but hopeful there is a
better solution for users that are not in a position to do this.

With FastMail saing they are right and the recent comments on this list
suggesting that they are not I'm kind of at a loss for a way ahead. Sure
I could submit a patch/bug/feature against evolution-data-server;s
CalDAV backend to optionally disable the PUT check or implement one of
FastMail's other suggestions, but that won't get much traction if the
general consensus is that this amounts to maintaining some kind of
"FastMail Quirks Mode". I can be a squeaky wheel of a FastMail customer,
but it sounds like the Great and Powerful Oz has spoken on that front.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks,

Setup is correct Milan. I checked for any searches I had and none were
present however, I clicked on the 'Show' and in the drop-down clicked
last 5 days and they then appeared in Evo. It should be noted that the
message count shown by Evo and on the drive have been correct all this
time. Not sure what difference it made selecting last 5 days messages
vice all messages. I'll see what happens when I send this.

It's just a local IMAP server. I've gone through this setup before with
Milan when I had a bug report to file in Evo. In this case as I said the
message will show up in ~/Maildir/.Sent/cur but not in the Evo UI.

I'm using Courier IMAP. The messages are in the folder just don't show
up in the Evo UI, to be more precise some do and some don't.

Upon further investigation Milan the message is written to my
~/Maildir/.Sent/cur folder but just doesn't show up in Evo. So they're
being saved just not accessible via Evo.

No it didn't. Seems like the only time a message is saved to the 'Sent'
folder is when I initiate it via Evo.

Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Evo 3.12.11 - If I send a message from a 'contact

Thanks Andre and Patrick, nope, this is an actual Spam folder Patrick
where where procmail places spam once it's marked as such by SA which is
not being run within Evo. Didn't realize I had to expunge the trash

[Evolution] Deleted messages not really deleted

2014-12-22 Thread Chris
Now to make sense of my subject. If I deleted the messages in my 'Spam'
folder they are moved to 'Trash' however, they are still in
~/Maildir/.Spam/cur. I've noticed this when I moved some false positives
from the spam folder to my Inbox and ran Spamassassin to report those
left in the folder. It picked up the ones I'd moved also. The same thing
happens if I delete some old spam from the folder before running SA.
This is Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, Gnome 3.12.2 and Evolution 3.12.9.

Any ideas?

Thanks Ralf, yes, I remember the same thing when I first installed
Ubuntu earlier this year with Gnome and I believe it was Evolution
3.12.6. I may just go ahead and file a bug report at Gnome Bugzilla as I
searched earlier today for this and found nothing that matches a
previously reported bug.

[Evolution] Inbox always opens at top of message list instead of last read message

2014-12-13 Thread Chris
Gnome 3.12.2, Evolution 3.12.9 - I sort my message list in all folders
by date from oldest at the top to newest on the bottom. When starting,
Evolution is always opened at the very first message in the list
no matter which folder is opened on startup. If there is a setting to
change this I can't find it anywhere or is this a feature or a bug?

Thanks Pete for the 2X4 hit upside the head. I looked at my
firefox.desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop and
I had unwittingly left the %u off of the exec command. Added it back and
it's working correctly again. Amazing what two little items will do when
left off a command.

I'd like to thank you Pete and all the rest who replied to this thread
trying to assist me when all along it was my fault when I added the menu
command.

The first one, yes, it opens Firefox and no it opens my homepage instead
of the link:
chris@localhost:~$ xdg-open "https://wiki.gnome.org/Evolution";
chris@localhost:~$

The 2nd tells me this:

chris@localhost:~$ firefox "https://wiki.gnome.org/Evolution";
The program 'firefox' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
sudo apt-get install firefox

Ok, actually Gnome calls them 'workspaces' I have it set to allow six so
that Evo is in #1, Firefox in #2 and other work is done in the other
four.

You're correct Pete, I forgot to add the necessary information last
night, must have been really tired.

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, Gnome 3.12.2, Evolution 3.12.8, Firefox
33.1.1.

Firefox is set as the default web browser in Firefox itself and in the
Gnome settings for browser.

You're also correct about Firefox opening. If I were to click on the
link at the bottom of any message in this list which would normally open
the link in workspace #2 where I have Firefox already running it would
instead open Firefox in workspace #1 where I have Evolution running. It
would also open to my 'homepage' instead of the link that is clicked on.

Is there anything else I can provide you Pete?

[Evolution] Opening links in Firefox

2014-11-29 Thread Chris
I've just installed Firefox from the Mozilla site removing the Ubuntu
version which seems to have been causing my system to lockup. Now when
clicking a link in a message a new Firefox is started in the same window
as Evolution is in instead of opening the link in the window that
Firefox is running in. Is there a setting in Evolution or Firefox
somewhere that will set this back to the way it was?

Thanks

I noticed the same exact issue in 3.12.7 though it appears to have been
fixed in 3.12.8, so far. The way it was acting though is I would mark
posts as read in my inbox, go to another folder to check it and come
back and some of the posts I'd marked as read were now un-read again.
I'm using a local IMAP setup with Courier IMAP.

Thank you for the link Andre, I used these when debugging 3.12.7 for the
two bug reports I filed. Before I get too carried away I'll try one more
thing and that is to restart the IMAP daemon and see if it fixes it.

[Evolution] IMAP daemon keeps logging out and in since upgrade to Evo 3.12.8

2014-11-22 Thread Chris
Ubuntu 14.04.LTS, Gnome 3.12.2, Evo 3.12.8. The update to 3.12.8 was
made yesterday approximately 16:35 immediately after that I started
seeing this in my syslog snippets:

http://pastebin.com/UWKJWB7g

and has continued like this through 22:00 this evening. Seeing as this
started immediately after the update I'd have to say it was something in
Evolution causing this. Anyone have any suggestions? I can run debug
commands and paste to pastebin if anyone wants to see them.

[Evolution] When starting Evo opens at top of message list instead of bottom

2014-11-22 Thread Chris
Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, Gnome 3.12.2, Evolution 3.12.8 - hopefully a little
better explanation of the subject. Anytime Evo is started it opens at
the very first message no matter what folder is opened on startup. For
instance if I have 1000 messages in my Inbox it will open at the very
first message in the list, if I were to drop down and open the folder
for this list it will then be at the last message received. Going back
up to Inbox and opening it will then open at the last message received
as I would think it should be. I've noticed this in 3.12.6/.7/.8. Maybe
this is as it should be, I'm not really sure. One other note is that I'm
running this using a local IMAP setup.

[Evolution] Failed to mark messages as read.

2014-10-08 Thread Chris
I've submitted a bug report for this error:

Failed to mark messages as read.
The reported error was "No IMAP namespace for folder path 'INBOX'".

This happens when attempting to mark all messages as read by right
clicking on 'Inbox' and 'Mark all messages as read' There are no
problems marking individual messages are read in the message list pane.

The bug number is https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=738184

Here is more information on this problem. First, the ID of the bug I
submitted. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=737733d:

Secondly the debug output from running:

CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:debug,imapx:extra evolution
>& /home/chris/evodebugfull.txt

can be found here http://pastebin.com/F3A5NCaj

If necessary I can also run any of the below debug commands
CAMEL_DEBUG=mail:io evolution >& /home/chris/evodebug1.txt
CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io evolution >& /home/chris/evodebug.txt
CAMEL_DEBUG=all evolution >& evo_debug.log

Personally I have no idea what to look for in the logs pertaining to
this error so maybe someone can make some sense of it.

Yes Pete, I've unsubscribed and resubscribed many times. I have multiple
Evo debug outputs from different debug commands that I can post on
pastebin here in a bit. Have some work to do first.

Doh! Forgot that I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Gnome 3.12.6

Ahh, then I'm not the only one getting this error. Here is some Evo
debug output:

(evolution:21936): evolution-mail-WARNING **: Failed to refresh folder
'ChrisP: INBOX/directory': Error refreshing folder: Mailbox does not
exist, or must be subscribed to.

Here is another error that doesn't pop up each time but maybe every 4 or
5 posts I send whether it's from my 'inbox' or a mailing list:

Your message was sent, but an error occurred during post-processing.
The reported error was "Failed to append to INBOX/Sent: Error appending
message: Stream has outstanding operation
Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead.".

I've submitted a bug on the one above but I think it's just sitting
there as unconfirmed.

Thanks Milan, I checked, I have the concurrent connections already set
to '1'. The folders in Maildir were created by Evo, not Courier. Here's
an error that popped up when I ran a debug against Evo:

(evolution:21936): evolution-mail-WARNING **: Failed to refresh folder
'ChrisP: INBOX/directory': Error refreshing folder: Mailbox does not
exist, or must be subscribed to.

Doesn't make any sense to me. I believe this is when I try to mark all
messages in 'inbox' as read.

When I built the Ubuntu 14.04 box back in July it was running Evo 3.10.? (can't
remember)
there were no problems with Evo.
About a week or so ago is when I upgraded to 14.04.1 and Evo 3.12.6
that's when the problems began.

Pete, I've listed the errors in the courier list and the and the author
of courier has said they have nothing to do with it. I've found some
debug commands for Evo, I've run this command

CAMEL_DEBUG=imapx:io evolution >& /home/chris/evodebug.txt

and pasted the output in pastebin

http://pastebin.com/p6ynWVq3

But at the very beginning when Evo loads there is this:

(evolution:25940): camel-WARNING **: Failed to initialize NSS SQL
database in sql:/etc/pki/nssdb: NSS error -8126

(evolution:25940): camel-WARNING **: Cannot load summary file
'/home/chris/.local/share/evolution/mail/1283386590.6219.2@localhost/.ev-store-summary':
 Unknown error

Another error that is further down the log shows this when I run Evo
with this command and also with the command above:

CAMEL_DEBUG=mail:io evolution >& /home/chris/evodebug1.txt

(evolution:25025): evolution-mail-WARNING **: Failed to refresh folder
'ChrisP: INBOX/directory': Error refreshing folder: Mailbox does not
exist, or must be subscribed to.

So, if you want to take a look at the file at pastebin and tell me what
you think I'd appreciate it. In my Maildir folder there is no 'INBOX'
folder, Inbox has three separate folders cur, new and tmp. Remember I
did not have this issue until upgrading to Evo 3.12.6. Worked fine in
the previous version.

I can't find any logs for courier or the imap daemon anywhere. The issue
is still intermittent. Of 5 test posts to myself 2 saved to the right
sent folder the other 3 showed the error. Stopping the imap daemon of
course kills the connection.

Correct, all mail goes to a Maildir folder with their own '.' name. This
is exactly the same way Evo was setup on my old Mandriva box before it
died including the settings that were in the screenshot. All that should
be doing is telling Evo that 'Sent' is a separate folder in the Maildir
folder. Maybe I should have mentioned, if I didn't, that I have this
setup as a local IMAP account using CourierIMAP so in the Maildir folder
I have cur, new, tmp for the INBOX and the rest of the folders are in
'.' format. that have their own cur, new, tmp folders. But, you probably
know this. And again, this problem doesn't happen every time but it's
intermittent. For instance I just replied to another post on this list
and it saved to the correct 'Sent' folder. I guess the real question is
what does this mean:

Error appending message: Stream has outstanding operation

I guess you could call this a 'local' IMAP setup since the the folders are not
on a remote
server but here on the desktop. I've been using the type of setup for
years and until my Mandriva box died back in July never had any issues
of this type with Evolution.

I have it set as .Sent in Maildir folder, the screenshot below shows
this. Permissions for the .Sent folder are

drwx-- 6 chris chris 4096 Oct 3 08:29 .Sent

Sometimes it saves to the correct sent folder but more often than not it
doesn't.

[Evolution] Your message was sent, but an error occurred during post-processing.

2014-10-02 Thread Chris
Ubuntu 14.04.1, Gnome 3.12.6. lately when sending a message with
Evolution I get this as a pop up:

Your message was sent, but an error occurred during post-processing.
The reported error was "Failed to append to INBOX/Sent: Error appending
message: Stream has outstanding operation
Appending to local 'Sent' folder instead.".

This happens whether it's from a mailing list or from my inbox.

Any ideas?

[Evolution] Constant Error Popups

2014-05-02 Thread Chris Banakis
First, sorry if this is the wrong way to go about getting help.

I could not find any forums for general support.

I love Evolution, so my thanks to the developers.

Everything works perfectly, except I keep getting error messages in the
big red banner.

There are several different errors that come and go throughout the day.

Is there any way to just turn the error popups off?

I realize the correct approach would be to address what is causing the
errors, but like I said, everything is working fine, so really, I just
want the popups to stop.

Thanks for any help

[Evolution] How to find a deb package for Evolution 3.10 for Mint 16

2014-01-02 Thread Chris Haynes
I've just started using Mint 16. The only version of Evolution
apparently available in their repository is 3.11.3, which comes with a (
(needed) health warning from the Evolution developers, who recommend
using version 3.10.

I've spend several hours trying to find a 'deb' package for Evolution
3.10. I can see that Ubuntu 'trusty' have packaged this version, but I
can't find a URI for the 'trusty' repository.

Can anyone tell me where I can get a binary of Evolution 3.10?

TIA

Re: [Evolution] Just give me the body - email

2013-09-03 Thread Chris and Tracey
Hi Bart, Pete and Matthew

Ok - so what i understand so far is ...

a) that Bart was able to write Code of sorts that helped him through
various versions of Evo and printing issues?
b) The Printing option is more related to Gnome and GTK+ functions
overall?
c) that the printing options may or may not have the "Dont print all
headers" option is other versions of Linux - such as Suse with the
exception of other packages that are loaded for the OS in particular?
d) That I cant just get a add/on option? I suppose I cant force and
upgrade without other issues affecting the system either?

e) The OS distribution and versions related are subject to the
"Maintainers" of the OS we use?

How am I doing so far ;)
Outcome then for me at this stage is - "just use what i have until the
next version is avail for Mint Debian"?

Thanks everyone.

[Evolution] Re Evo Printing - "Just the body wanted"

2013-08-31 Thread Chris and Tracey
Hi Bart

Yes thanks for that - i'm aware of the "Printing settings" via the Print
command, however in my version of Evo or "print" options ... I dont have
it, and thats what I was looking for. :(
Just wondering if it would be an option incorporated in later versions
of Evo or its just a system wide print option that seems to be
"lacking" :/ ?
Another question that is raised is the Version Upgrade via the
repositories? Why is it that Debian Mint has an older version
distributed at the moment?

[Evolution] Keyring Password issues again!!

2013-08-07 Thread Chris and Tracey
Has anyone else faced this?

Kernel : Linux 3.2.0-4-486 (i686)
Compiled : #1 Debian 3.2.32-1
Distribution : LMDE Xfce Edition - Running Mate

Starting Evolution (3.4.4) - and what started out as a minor irritation
is now a major. I used to be able to just minimize it and see email and
send receive ok.

Now It will not give me that option as a work around. I actually found
the password that worked last week and then the last few days that
stopped!

I tried an earlier terminal fix for the same problem I had last year.
sudo sed -i 's/gnome_keyring/mate_keyring/g' /etc/pam.d/*
Logged out - restart and problem still persists

That didn't work either. I also tried the "set password in default to
blank/empty" that didn't work as well!

Anyone got a clue how to remove keyrings without knowing the passwords?

2013-01-03 Thread Chris and Tracey
David - Tried that 'trick' but didnt have the same outcome. Now since
last
posting - Mate and Mint system have been updated and the results
are...
Evo now shows a transparent highlight bar on incoming email
recipient/sender lines. Yah readable

Incoming email 'bodies' have some text missing, however cursor can
show
location on "blocking with mouse" but still not reveal what the text
is.

Forwarding emails with part hidden text (to myself) reveals FULL
text on
incoming forwarded email!?

[Evolution] Blank or Blacked out text in various places

2012-12-25 Thread Chris and Tracey
I'm running Evo 3.4.3 on Linux Mint, with Mate.

1) Since the install some months ago, I have never been able to see the
details in the 'Header/Address bar' with the exception of just the email
links nothing else. Its all Black!?

2) The other problem is when the cursor selects the email received
(From, subject line etc) prior to viewing it int he preview window - the
whole line is Blacked out - noting is visible under it?

3) When I forward a text email - the page is blank, (except anything I
type) however as I try to select with the cursor - it will show black
"blocking" (Blocking =Left click and hold and move mouse over it) over
anywhere that has some text at the location on the page! Cant see it,
and still cant read it!?

Normal incoming text, images etc - no issues.

Anyone come across this and can help? Thanks in advance and of course -
Merry Christmas ya all! :)

[Evolution] Trying EWS beta

2011-07-18 Thread Chris Kottaridis
I have Fedora 14 and evolution version 2.32.2 and I installed the june
23 RPM version of evolution-ews.

When I add an account it does give me the Exchange Web Service option.

In the receive email tab it asks for:

Username:
Host URL:
OAB URL:

I put in the username and URL's. I hit the "Fetch URL" button and it
asked for a password, which I gave it. I didn't get any complaints. Now
clicking "Fetch URL" doesn't prompt me for anything.

However the "Forward" button at the bottom of the page never activated.
So, I can only go "Back" or "Cancel".

I checked with the local admins and the hostnames would be correct, but
they are only going to support IMAP connectivity for email from a Linux
box so they don't want to get too involved.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I'd really like to get Exchange access through evolution. I got close
with the MAPI option, but every so often it shows a blank message body
when there actually is content. The headers are there and such, just not
the content. SO, I have hopes that EWS will straighten everything out
since that is where people seem to be putting energy now.

Re: [Evolution] some mapi messages show no content

In looking at the headers a bit more I notice the mapi header has:

Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="=-JoT5w1JiGoTNkd9m13gV"

and the imap header has:

Content-Type: text/plain

Not sure why they'd have different content type for the same headers.

[Evolution] some mapi messages show no content

2011-06-10 Thread Chris Kottaridis
I am running Fedora 14 and recently did an upgrade of evolution which
fixed my GetHierarchyTable error I was getting that prevented me from
accessing my company's mail server.

So, now I can get access and connect, but I notice that every eighth or
so message the content is bare. It says there is an email and shows me
the message and I see header info, but there is no content.

If I select "Message Source" I see the headers and then it has:

--=-JoT5w1JiGoTNkd9m13gV
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit
Content-Type: text/plain

--=-JoT5w1JiGoTNkd9m13gV--

I assume the message is supposed to be in between the --=* lines

Now I have imap set up to the same account and looking at the same
folder I can see the content of that message. If I look at the message
source it doesn't have any --=* lines or Content definitions. Just a
blank line after the last header and then the content of the message.
Also, from a Windows box running in VMWare Outlook's mailer I can see
the content of the message just fine.

I don't want to show the headers or body, being company stuff and all
that in this email.

I am hoping this is some setup problem I have on my side. I haven't been
able to find a pattern yet. I have other email from this user. The
problem exists with other users, but I also get other emails from them
that are fine.

Anyone have any ideas or seen anything like this ?

I am so close to having mapi usable, but I can't miss every eighth or
tenth message.

[Evolution] Reading Threads

2011-06-03 Thread Chris
When reading threads in Evolution, I use the express mode but this
applies to the normal mode also, I find it very hard to move from
message to message.

In the normal mode you can use the preview box to view the messages as
you click on them in the list, this is not very quick but it works
alright, the real problem comes when using the express mode as there is
no preview panel, are there any plans to adopt a interface similar to that
of GMail were you can just scroll down to view entire threads?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: [Evolution] Evolution Fedora 14 and Exchange server

2011-05-28 Thread Chris Kottaridis
Just an FYI. I upgraded evolution with a May 02 2011 update from Fedora
that talked about this exact issue. The GetHiearchyTable and the same
error message.

Now I can connect to my company's exchange server.

Hooray and thanks to whoever fixed it.

However, I have run into a second problem that means I still can't quite
use it. It seems some messages, like one in 8 or 10 have empty content.
But, if I look at the same message via IMAP from the same host or
Outlook from a Windows VM machine it is not empty.

I'll start a separate thread for that. I am hoping it may just be some
setting on my side or something that can be configured away.

Thanks

[Evolution] Evolution Express

2011-05-25 Thread Chris
Hello,

I have just discovered the Evolution Express interface for my netbook
and I much prefer it to the standard Evolution interface. However I am
having a few problems with it, firstly I am starting Evolution from the
command line at the moment with the --express option, is there any way
to avoid this? This also affects calender access from the Gnome Shell
calender drop down. Clicking open calender when Evolution is not running
opens the normal (not express) interface.

Also, is there a way of getting mail to be sorted by date with the latest
at the top, not the bottom? The other inconvenience on a small screen is the
Attachments bar (or status bar, from which you open the attachments bar),
at the bottom of the screen, is there any way to make it hide or disappear
completely?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: [Evolution] Evolution Fedora 14 and Exchange server

2011-01-21 Thread Chris Kottaridis
I finally had a chance to take a look at this error. It comes from here
in the code in src/libexchangemapi/exchange-mapi-connection.c:

   ms = GetHierarchyTable (&obj_folder, &obj_table, TableFlags_Depth
| TableFlags_NoNotifications | TableFlags_UseUnicode, &row_count);
   if (ms != MAPI_E_SUCCESS) {
   make_mapi_error (perror, "GetHierarchyTable", ms);
   result = FALSE;
   goto cleanup;
   }

I did a git clone and compared the file versions from FC13 to FC14:

$ git diff EVOLUTION_MAPI_0_30_1 EVOLUTION_MAPI_0_32_1
src/libexchangemapi/exchange-mapi-connection.c > ~/tmp/mapi-diff

/* Get the hierarchy table */
- retval = GetHierarchyTable(&obj_folder, &obj_table, 0,
&row_count);
-   if (retval != MAPI_E_SUCCESS) {
-   mapi_errstr("GetHierarchyTable", GetLastError());
+ ms = GetHierarchyTable (&obj_folder, &obj_table,
TableFlags_Depth | TableFlags_NoNotifications | TableFlags_UseUnicode,
&row_count);
+   if (ms != MAPI_E_SUCCESS) {
+   make_mapi_error (perror, "GetHierarchyTable", ms);
+   result = FALSE;
goto cleanup;
}

Note that in version 0.30 (FC13 version) a 0 is passed, but in 0.32
(FC14) it passes these options (TableFlags_Depth |
TableFlags_NoNotifications | TableFlags_UseUnicode) to
GetHierarchyTable(). I assume that the other side of the connection
doesn't support one or more of those options, but is OK with the value
of 0.

I am really not familiar with the protocol here. Before I try go to all
the trouble to try and figure out how to compile this and install it, so
I can set this value to zero and see what happens, I was wondering if
this is may be a bad idea. I can't set up a dummy account on the
exchange server so I can only work with live data and really don't want
to take the chance to drop any emails. Seems you always lose an
important one when that happens.

I assume GetHiearchyTable() sets the values of obj_folder and obj_table
and am wondering if other parts of the code may have problems if these
structures aren't built with these options ?

Mostly interested in whether it could corrupt emails or otherwise lose
messages.

Also, kind of makes me wonder if maybe it's some configuration option on
the exchange side to support all these options. But, again I have no
control over that.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciate.

Thanks

Well I had a chance to take a fast look at the source and
MAPI_E_NO_SUPPORT is just a standard error result having nothing to do
with encryption. The message means that the GetHierarchyTable() in the
openchange package returned an error. I assume that it's not the routine
itself in error but rather some options passed to it and sent to the
provider are not supported. I haven't had a chance to look and see how
this differs in FC13 compare to FC14.

OK, did that for both the FC13 machine and the FC14 machine and they are
attached.

Seems the FC14 has some issues with the locations of some things
locally. Maybe this is because I just tarred ny FC13 home directory into
the new FC14 machine or something and the FC14 version would prefer
things in different locations. I don't think this is the issue though.

I did not save the password in either case and I assume that is what the
keyring notices are about:

e-data-server-ui-Message: Unable to find password(s) in keyring (Keyring
reports: No matching results)
e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have group
'Passwords-ExchangeMAPI'

I assume these are OK messages to see when I haven't flagged remember
passwd.

My guess is this is the cuplrit:

(evolution:10714): camel-mapi-provider-WARNING **: Could not get folder
list (GetHierarchyTable: MAPI error MAPI_E_NO_SUPPORT (0x80040102)
occurred)

This does not show up on the successful FC13 connection, but does on the
failing FC14 connection. I assume the "E" in the phrase implies
Encryption. I have the "Secure Connection" flag on the "Receiving Email"
page unchecked. This option did not exist for the FC13 implementation,
so I assume it's something new. I assume it means the Exchange server
doesn't support the Encryption protocol.

Is there a problem trying to disable the "Secure Connection" properly ?

I would love to use MAPI, but although it does seem to work on Fedora 13
it doesn't seem to on my Fedora 14 machine.

I am typing the exact same password on the FC13 as I do the FC14 to the
exact same server and I get stuff for FC13, but not FC14.

How do I generate the traces or enable debugging in general and where
dos the output go ?

[Evolution] Evolution Fedora 14 and Exchange server

2010-12-28 Thread Chris Kottaridis

Recently my company switched to using Exchange 2010 from a very old
version of Exchange. I was previously able to use the OWA Exchange
option in evolution on my FC 13 host, but now that doesn't work and I
got everything to work over to IMAP. Of course with IMAP I don't get
Calender or the Global Address Lookup from the Exchange server.

I got a new host from work and installed FC 14 on it and got the same
IMAP setup working on it for mail.

I was about to take the old FC 13 host down to use for other purposes
and happened to try the Exchange MAPI option. It took a little while to
get synced up, but in the end I could see my emails ( I had two folders
a Favorites and a Mailbox for Username) and also I could see calendar
events and I got access to the Exchange server's Global Address Lookup.
I haven't tried using it much but what I have tried seems to work.

So, I tried the same settings on my new FC14 host. It seems to like the
password OK but for that account it only shows the "Favorites" folder
and not the "Mailbox for UserName" so I can't see any mail or the
calendar or the Global Address lookup.

Why would this work in FC13, but not FC14 ?

Below are the various package versions and plugins on the different
hosts:

On the FC14 I have these packages:
openchange-0.9-9.fc14 (X86_64)
evolution-mapi-0.32.1-1.fc14 (X86_64)

FC14 plugins:
Attachment Reminder
Automatic Contacts
Backup and Restore
Calendar Publishing
Custom Header
Default Sources
IMAP Features
ltip Formatter
Mailing List Actions
Mail Notifications
Mail-to-Task
Mark All Read
Outlook DBX import
Prefer Plain Text
Save Selected
Subject Threading
Templates
WebDAV contacts

On the FC13 I have these packages:
openchange-0.9-2.fc13 (X86_64)
evolution-mapi-0.30.3-1.fc13 (X86_64)

FC13 plugins:
Attachment Reminder
Automatic Contacts
Backup and Restore
Calendar Publishing
Custom header
Default Mail Client
Default Sources
IMAP Features
ltip Formatter
Mailing List Actions
Mail Notifications
Mail to Task
Mark All Read
Prefer Plain Text
Save Selected
Setup Assistant
Subject Threading
Templates
WebDAV contacts

I would love to have full access to the companies Exchange server, but I
really don't want to go back to FC13 at this point. I assume I'll have
to fight this battle at some point or another.

Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks
Chris Kottaridis

[Evolution] Evo fails t o empty trash completely!

2010-09-12 Thread Chris
Hi all

Some time ago I faced the problem of 'Evo' failing to empty trash at all
and ended up with 1000's of emails in the trash folder. The fix was a
work around at the time, however after a rebuild and upgrade to Ubu
10.04 I now find Evo 2.28.3 is doing it again...! Well nearly the same!
Evo current version (unknown prior version issues) now empties
everything except Facebook emails, all from june to today?
They are all the notification type. This unbelievable, all the other
emails get deleted except Facebook!!

So has anyone got a fix or recommendation for this problem?

[Evolution] clicking delete icon causes more than one msg to be marked for deletion

2010-09-12 Thread Chris
Evolution 2.30.2, Mandriva 2010.1, when clicking the delete icon instead
of just 1 msg being marked for deletion usually 2 or 3 are. I've tried
waiting until the msg is marked as read but the same happens most of the
time. I've even tried using a lighter touch on my mouse button, same
result. I've checked the mouse settings and I didn't see any that would
make a difference. Anything else I need to check?

Hi Reid,

Thanks once again for the tips, but I found it was easier to simply do :

grep "Subject: COZA: OKAY: Updated domain" CO.ZA\ Data >> updated.txt

...straight from the command line in the Evolution local data folder.

At least I have a better understanding now of how Evolution mailboxes
work.

Thank you again for your desire to help, much appreciated.
