The Global Address List does not exist as far as LDAP is concerned. It is a View of the objects in the entire Directory. You can't get at it from LDAP, at least not as a single object. RCPT To Questions
Heads up for another newbie questions. I received this email from our ISP this morning regarding our mailserver ---SNIP- We have re-tested the server and it still seems to be accepting erroneous RCPT TO commands as follows: 220 mail.kingswinford.dudley.sch.uk Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2 195.2966 ready at Tue, 13 Nov 2001 10:12:21 + helo spam.com 250 mail.kingswinford.dudley.sch.uk Hello [212.47.78.44] mail from:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 250 2.1.0 [EMAIL PROTECTED] OK rcpt to:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 250 2.1.5 [EMAIL PROTECTED]@kingswinford.schoolzone.co.uk Although we do not believe that your server is actually relaying this mail, we are concerned that our system will again be flooded with thousands of 'bounce' mails the next time this exploit is tried by a third party Internet user. SNIP- Could anyone help me solve this, I only know a little about exchange (we're using Exchange 2000 SP1) and this falls outside of my knowledge. We had a problem last week where someone was relaying 1000s of messages through our mailserver which resulted in our ISPs postmaster getting 1000s of bounce messages. While I beleive that I have closed the relay our ISP won't unblock our mailbox until this is resolved. any help is greatly appreciated. Re: Event-id : 7031
Try this to fix the problem...it comes from knowledge base...it has been my best source for fixing problem...the web site is www.microsoft.com/exchange find support and then click knowledge base. Event Type: Error Event Source: Service Control Manager Event Category: None Event ID: 7031 User: N/A Computer: SERVER Description: The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this X time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action. CAUSE This issue can occur if the server is missing critical security access to Active Directory to allow Exchange 2000 to function. WORKAROUND To work around this issue, run Exchange 2000 Setup without switches, and then click Reinstall for all components that should be installed on this server. MORE INFORMATION This issue usually occurs if the computer account for the server is deleted from Active Directory, and then added again when Microsoft Windows 2000 is reinstalled. This scenario can occur when you are required to perform a complete reinstallation of Windows 2000, for example, after a system drive failure, where you are starting with a fresh hard disk drive. The computer account is deleted instead of reset, and then it is re-added to Active Directory. This new computer account does not have all the required security in Active Directory to participate as an Exchange 2000 computer. When you use the /disasterrecovery switch, only the files that are needed for Exchange 2000 are copied; Setup does not do any security context checks or correct any files if they are missing. In this scenario, it is recommended that you simply reset the computer account instead of deleting it from Active Directory. When you do so, the Security identification number (SID) of the computer account and all the Access Control Lists (ACLs) that that SID belongs to remain intact. If you experience a failure of your system drive on your Exchange 2000 computer, and you do not have a system state backup, use the following method: Format the new drive, and then install Windows 2000 and the same Windows 2000 service pack as the original server. Start the Active Directory Users and computers snap-in, right-click the server, and then click Reset Account. NOTE: Do not delete the account. Join the new server to the domain. Run Exchange 2000 Setup using the /disasterrecovery switch. Restore your backup of the databases to the server. Restart the Exchange 2000 computer, and then verify that the databases have mounted. If you encounter any security errors after this procedure (for example, an access denied message or the System Attendant fails to start), run the Reinstall program of Exchange 2000. When you do so, any settings on the server are repaired. If you try to reinstall Exchange 2000 on the server after you join the server to the domain, you may receive the following error message: The server you are trying to install already exists in the Exchange Site The /disasterrecovery switch does not try to add the server to the site; it only copies the files that are necessary to run Exchange 2000. If you run the regular Setup of Exchange 2000, and it does not detect that Exchange 2000 is already installed, it functions as if you are adding a new server to the site, and you receive the duplicate server error message that is described in this section. RE: Instant Messaging Problem
There's also Q303991 which cures the random authentication problems found in IM. Neil -Original Message- From: Scott Schnoll [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Posted At: 12 November 2001 17:18 Posted To: Sunbelt Exchange List Conversation: Instant Messaging Problem Subject: Re: Instant Messaging Problem Based on the information you've provided, it's impossible to say for sure what the cause might bebut things I would check are: 1.DNS. Make sure your IM client's DNS settings are correct. Make sure the DNS server is reachable, etc. You might also do both an IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS and an IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS from the IM client (assuming this is a Win2K IM client). 2.Verify you are using the correct IM address. You can view the address in ADUC, from the Exchange Features tab. Note that if you are using a properly configured SRV record in DNS, you can also use your default SMTP address to log on. 3.Check IE Proxy settings on the client. In particular, make sure that (1) you are bypassing any proxy for local addresses; and (2) that you go into the Advanced proxy settings and enter your network's address ranges to the exclusion list. For example, if your IP address is 192.168.10.1, you should add 192.168.* to this exclusion list, or 192.168.10.* to the exclusion list. This is actually very important to do this. If you are using a proxy and you don't do this, you will never be able to log on. If none of these help, post back to the list with the exact text of error message(s) you're getting, and any other info that might help. -Scott - Original Message - From: exchlist To: MS-Exchange Admin Issues Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 8:58 AM Subject: RE: Instant Messaging Problem Hi Scott, I am unable to login to the IM client. Hi all, I have a problem with this agent for win95. I am running an NT 4 server SP4 with BackupExec Enterprise Edition 7.x. Certain pc's are backed up everyday, whereas certain computers don't show up at all. I tried everything from reinstalling the agent to re-installing the net adapter and tcp/ip but it just does'nt show up at all. The only thing left is to re-install Win95 which I have'nt done yet. I thought that this might be a problem with BackupExec 7.x. So I asked for an Eval copy of Veritas Backupexec 8.6 (the latest) and installed it on the server and installed the new agants for win95/98. Guess what? It still cannot see some computers running the agent. WinNT workstation backups are a breeze. No problem at all. Oh, another thing I forgot to mention. The Backupexec server cannot and will not backup Win98 agents. It will only backup the win98 clients unexpectedly say maybe once in 10 days or 3 days in a row and then blank Maybe these agents are playing Hide-and-Seek with me. I don't know. I checked Veritas Kbase but nothing. Please help... Glen Gonsalves. RE: Anyone have any issues with secureiis and owa...
I am running SecurerIIS 1.2.1 OWA with Exchange 5.5 SP4. I had an initial issue with the WWW service stopping every 5 minutes. I talked with tech support they suggested uninstalling re-installing. That fixed the issue. They also have some additional methods listed on their website that you may need to enable if you find some functionality not working. I have found that I haven't needed to enable any additional methods. 1.2.1 comes with an option to allow SecureIIS to function correctly with OWA. rjk Randy j. concurrent CAL for exchange?

I have a potential client who is looking at setting up an Exchange server that will only be accessed remotely, through a VPN and/or OWA. Hi all. I can get a mail enabled object in my AD to recieve mail, and then forward it back out to a third party. Problem is getting 300-500 of these into AD without me typing them manually. Can someone get me pointed in the right direction using Microsoft (read non-third party) tools? ¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø John Weber Network Engineer 503-262-0490 x203 List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm

Outlook Web Access cannot open mail attachments in .msg format. ..
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q172/9/02.ASP?LN=EN-USSD=g nFR=0qry=outlook%20web%20access%20.msgrnk=1src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCHSPR=EC H I found the above article that describes the problem we are having exactly. We are on SP4 and I wanted to ask if anyone here has found any workaround for this? Maybe a way to tell the Exchange server to map .msg to .txt and have the message open on the client side? (just an idea). Any input is appreciated... Thank you, Heidi List Charter and FAQ at: http://www.sunbelt-software.com/exchange_list_charter.htm
RE: LDAP question
But you can get to individual objects and attributes of the directory with LDAP, right? I mean, we're doing it here. We're currently using LDAP to query information in the Exchange 5.5 directory and using it to populate AD. Things like phone number, address, etc. The LDAP query uses the distinguished name properties like organization (/o), site (/ou) and container (/cn). Maybe I don't understand the question. RE: Outlook Web Access cannot open mail attachments in .msg format. ..
You cannot simply map this file because it is a MAPI compound format. This feature has been added to Exchange 2000 Outlook Web Access. RE: LDAP question
Sure. As you have indicated, it is no problem at all. Say you have an exchange server with ldap enabled and the exchange organization is MyCompany. Tell you unix guys to use o=MyCompany to access the global address list. That's the letter o, as in organization. Terry Beavers USF IT/TAA -Original Message- From: Bibel, Laura Y.
