Please everyone do not get upset about this post as I am only trying to help. This learning module is entitled, Formatting a Document. This lesson demonstrates several formatting options available in the HJPad program, as well as techniques of locating and identifying text with specific format attributes. Currently, the only two programs that I've got running are JAWS for Windows and HJPad. My application focus is in the HJPad application. Let's open a document to work with. Ctrl+O c:\jaws451\training\enu\format.txt Good, we're in the document with the insertion point at the upper left-hand corner of a document that I have opened called, Format.txt. The Format.txt document is a letter that we wrote to our lead trainer, Dan Clark. The primary focus of this lesson is going to be on formatting a document. The whole idea behind having a prepared document like this one for you to work in is to show you how easy it is for you to go back after you've gotten all of your ideas typed up, and then carry out your formatting to make your document look more professional or academic, whatever applies to your situation. As we format this document, I'll be showing you some techniques to verify that a particular formatting action has been carried out. And finally, we'll be taking a look at several options that JAWS has built into it that will allow us to proof our document for content, format attributes, or both. I'm going to press the say all command and have JAWS read a little bit of the document that we've got up on the screen, and then I'm going to press the CTRL key to silence speech. I'll press INSERT+DOWN ARROW now Rover Red. One hundred eleven any street. My town comma, my state, zero, zero, zero, zero, zero dash zero, zero, zero, zero. Freedom Scientific BLV Group comma LLC period. Eleven thousand eight hundred thirty-one S-T Court end period. S-t period. Petersburg comma, F-L. Thirty-three thousand seven hundred sixteen. Dear Mr period Clark colon. It is not often that I get a chance to write such a letter. In any event, I'd like to take this moment to thank you for your kind, gentle, and professional manner while training our class on JAWS. So as we hear, we've just got a bunch of text up on the screen. Nothing's been formatted and everything is aligned along the left margin of this document. I'm going to go ahead and return my insertion point to the top of this document, CTRL+HOME. Top of file. blank So we hear blank, and we're on a blank line at the top of the document. However, I'd like for the date to appear at the top of my document. Insert time and date can be found within the Insert pull down menu, which is under Insert on the menu bar. So I'm going to press ALT+I to activate the Insert pull down menu. Alt I. Menu active. Insert. Date and time dot dot dot And this is the only item in the Insert menu. I'll press ENTER to open the date and time dialogue. Enter. Leaving menus. Date and time dialogue. Available formats colon list box. Three slash five slash ninety-nine. One of thirteen. Now this Insert format list box contains eleven different ways to let somebody know what day it is, and two different ways to let them know what time it is, should we choose to. We can navigate this list view in the usual way, either by arrowing through it or first-letter navigation. So if I wanted to let the recipient of my letter know that I wrote on a Friday, as opposed to 3/5/99, I could simply press the letter F and my focus will move to the first item in this list beginning with the letter F. I'll go ahead and do this now. F. Friday comma, March zero-five comma, nineteen ninety-nine. And we've got a few other options in this list beginning with Friday, but I'm just going to select this one. I'll press ENTER. Enter. Edit. We hear that my application focus moves back to the main document edit field, and I'm going to do a say current line where I'm at right now. Friday comma, March zero-five comma, nineteen ninety-nine. We hear that this has been inserted into our document on that blank line that we generated. Now let's say that I also want to let my recipient know what time this letter was written. I'm going
[JAWS-Users] Re: Progress Bar Announcements in J 7.0 OE
I thought about trying Maria's suggestion, but now it seems to be working as it should. We'll see. After I posted, I had a thought on why JAWS might be saying 100% twice. Control-M is for both send and receive messages, so maybe one 100% is for sending and the second 100% is for receiving. I usually send messages immediately, so hadn't thought of the sending part. JFW was also saying the percentages with IE, so I'll have to see if that seems to straighten out on its own. I'd already done a cold boot so it may be another one for the shrug column. I have cable, so it's rather annoying and JFW 6.2 didn't announce the progress with announcements set at 5 second intervals. I tried setting them at 5 second intervals in 7.0, but it didn't help. JAWS often announces 100 % twice just to be sure I might not have gotten it the first time. I looked at the Technical Service Bulletins for OE at the FS site and there weren't any related to the problem. I have XP Home with SP2 and it's OE 6 and IE6. I haven't tried changing the setting in the default.jcf - JAWS Configuration Manager since there might be a program where I might want announcements. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or am I missing something here? Thank you for this help. I do have DSL not cable. Without looking, I know I have more than 256 m RAM. Probably 384. I am not very experienced with computers. I don't even know how many accounts I have. I am the only user and just have one e mail address. How do I figure out if there are more accounts. Sometimes, I can't get on to the web, as opposed to being kicked off once on. I really appreciate the help and will work on this project. Thanks again! That myth went out in the eighties with the advent of knowledge. In any case, if you are sure that you have DSL and not cable high speed internet, I would probably check out your time out settings and the hang up when finished stuff. More than likely, your time out settings are too low. First of all, go into the tools menu and select options. Once there, control+tab over to the connections tab and make sure that hang up when finished sending and receiving is unchecked. Once you've unchecked it, tab over to the apply button, press spacebar, then shift tab over to the o.k. button. Your next step is to check out the time out settings for your various e-mail accounts. In case you're wondering, the time out settings is the time at which point the computer considers your connection inactive and will sometimes disconnect or give yup on downloading a particular message. This sometimes occurs when you get large file attachments. In any case, go back into your tools menu, then into the accounts dialog box. Once there. select the account your are using, if you have multiple accounts, then you'll have to do it for all the accounts individually. If you see a large number of items in the list box, then tab once and right arrow to the mail tab. This will highlight the e-mail accounts that are set up in OE. Sorry to dumb this down for you, but for the benefit of others who aren't as experienced as you may be, they might want to check their settings also. Of course, I have no way of knowing how much experience you have, so better to err on the safe side. Now that you have the account highlighted, tab over to properties and press spacebar. Once in the properties dialog box, control tab over to the advanced tab, tab down to where Jaws says, server ports time out settings. This will be a slider, and you can press page down or page up to either increase or decrease the time out value, respectively. In this case, you want to increase the time out value, so press the page down key until Jaws reads 100%. At this point, tab over to the apply button and press the spacebar., followed by the shift tab to the o.k. button and press it again. Remember, as I said, you'll have to increase the time out settings on all of your e-mail accounts, so don't think you're finished. As for the ram issue, while performance can lag a bit if you don't have enough of it, I believe, and someone may correct me if I'm wrong on this, the minimum required ram for running windows XP is 128 megs of ram, and if you want to run it optimally, 256 and above is recommended. Either way, if you want to check out how much ram you have, go to your desktop, and highlight your my computer icon. Once you've done that, press the applications key and arrow up to properties. This will open up a dialog box with all your system's information. You can either use the jaws cursor, by pressing the minus key on your number pad, or the caps lock+P followed by the caps lock+left bracket to route the jaws cursor to your pc cursor. At this point, you'll be able to arrow down the dialog box and read all the information that is in that dialog box. The other option is to virtualize the window by pressing insert+control+W and reading the information that way. In either case, let us know if this information helps you, and I would be curious to know exactly how much ram you have on your computer for your friend to say that. I am unaware of similar issues under XP but unaware is the operative concept. Adjustments to the swap file which is the only mechanism I am aware of which sort of moves RAM out to disk is the only thing I can think of that they might be referring to. It shouldn't disconnect your DSL though. Frankly I doubt RAM is the issue, more likely some or other bug, a hijacker, worm or virus or dialer or possibly something in a security setting. In my opinion XP Pro at least has a feature which includes random alteration of various settings which I don't remember enjoying under 95 or 98, if that is what you are experiencing then I don't know, I haven't figured out how to disable that pleasure yet myself. Rich - Original Message - From: Victor Gouveia [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, January 26, 2007 11:40 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: RAM Hi Rich, Who ever told you that you needed more ram because your computer kept kicking you off the net should never be let near your computer again, and should be shot for even thinking that all your problems can be solved by getting more ram. The other option is to

[JAWS-Users] Re: RAM
OK, Just that for some reason, wireless routers will refuse to allow connection and have to be turned off and back on. Now, Do you know if the Internet Service Provider (ISP) assigns you a fixed IP address or it it is a DHCP server which assigns an address on demand? This may help in discovering what, if any of your security or other settings are inappropriate. I am not expert but I have had my share of problems with reliable connection on a couple of networks so I may be able to help but we are getting to the edges of my knowledge. As

[JAWS-Users] windows vista information
In case anybody is interested to find out what our research page has come up with today. David Ferrin ** Hi Dave Windows Vista Feature Guide Table of Contents List of 4 items 1. Introduction 2. How to enable or disable Windows Vista Features 3. Windows Vista Features List 4. Conclusion list end Introduction A Windows Vista feature is simply a set of programs or a particular capability of the operating system that can be enabled or disabled by an administrator. It is important to note that in Windows Vista, when you remove or disable a feature, you are not actually removing files from your hard drive, but rather just deactivating them. Therefore disabling a feature should not be used as a method of freeing up hard drive space. On the other hand, by disabling a feature you may gain an increase in performance due to memory and processor utilization no longer being allocated towards the particular feature. Now that you understand what a Windows Vista Feature is, you may be wondering why people would need to enable or disable them? When you install Windows Vista, it installs a base set of features. This base set consists of programs and capabilities that Microsoft feels the average user would require or want when running Windows Vista. There are, though, features that come with the base install that some people may not need and by deactivating them you have one less potential program running in the background using up resources. On the other hand, some people may have need of a feature that is not activated by default such as Internet Information Services that would enable them to host a web site on their computer. This guide will explain how to enable and disable Windows Vista features as well as describe what each feature does, whether it's installed by default, and whether we feel its necessary to enable. How to enable or disable Windows Vista Features To access the Vista Features screen you should follow these steps: List of 6 items 1. Click on the Start button to open your Start Menu. The Start button looks like this: Vista Start Button 2. When the Start Menu opens click on the Control Panel menu option. 3. When the Control Panel window opens click on the Uninstall a program option option under the Programs category. This option is shown by the arrow in the image below. If you are using the Classic View of the Control Panel, then you would double-click on the Programs and Features icon instead. Vista Control Panel 4. You will now be presented with the Programs and Features screen, or Uninstall or change a program screen, as shown in the image below. Vista Programs and Features Screen To access the Windows features screen you need to single-click on the option labeled Turn Windows features on or off as designated by the arrow in the image above. 5. Windows Vista will now ask for your permission to access the Windows Vista Features. You should click on the Continue button to give this permission. 6. The Windows Vista Feature List window will now open displaying all the Features available for your version of Vista. An entry can be a single feature or a feature with subfeatures. When enabling features that have subfeatures it is possible to only enable those subfeatures that are required by you. This enables you to finely tune how you want Vista to operate. Windows Vista Feature List Next to each feature is a box that can have three states. If the checkbox is checked that means that the feature, and all of its subfeatures if it has any, are enabled. If the box is filled with a solid blue color, then that means that some subfeatures of this feature are enabled but not all of them. If the checkbox is empty, then that feature and none of its subfeatures are enabled. To enable a feature, simply put a checkmark next to the feature name. To disable a feature simply remove the check from the feature or one of its subfeatures. When you are happy with how you disabled and enabled the features, you should click on the OK button to save these changes. list end Now that you know how to access the Windows Vista Feature List and to activate and disable features you can control what programs and capabilities are available to you when using Vista. For a description of each feature, if they are enabled by default, and whether or not you need it, please read the next section of this tutorial. Windows Vista Feature List Below is the list of features that are available in Windows Vista. Please note that depending on the version of Windows Vista you may have, some of these features may not be available. This feature list was taken from Vista Ultimate which should have all the available features at this time. The table below contains a list of all the features and their subfeatures. Each Feature name is a link to a description of the particular feature. These descriptions may contain link to further reference material about the particular feature. Each feature also has a corresponding default status. The key

I found an old post on another list from Debbie in which she gave instructions for doing it in 7.1, but her instructions don't seem to match in 7.0: Don't perform these steps unless you are comfortable making script changes. In OE, press insert 0 (on the number row) to open the OE scripts file. You need to comment out two lines in the scripts. Press control L (or go to the script menu, script list) and press D and find the script DeleteMessage and enter. Arrow down in the script to the line that says the following and put a semicolon in front of it like this: ;SayFormattedMessage (ot_status, msg_DeleteMessage_L, msg_DeleteMessage_S) Now press control L again and this time press J and then find the script JAWSDelete and enter. You will find the same line as above in that script also. Put a semicolon in front of the line in this script too. Then press control S to compile, alt f4 to leave script manager. I may need more caffeine but the line in the jaws delete script does not seem to be the same as the delete message script. I've looked at the jaws-users home page under tips and tricks and also the scripts link and didn't seem anything related to the script. [JAWS-Users] Re: FTP explorer
And I guess you are using Internet Explorer 7? The following assumes you are. There are as-yet unresolved issues between IE7 and ftp clients, because IE7 has changed the manner of acciessing ftp sites. For now, use Windows Explorer address bar to type in the address. If you need to cut, copy or paste, use Windows Explorer. IE (or perhaps ftp exploerer itself) takes care of downloading. - Original Message - From: Don Lorah To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, January 27, 2007 9:33 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: FTP explorer When I use ftp explorer, Jaws says: click on page and open windows explorer aand click on open to view this page. At this
