I know the standard wheel spacing was determined by the width of two horses, so when the old rutted streets were starting to be used by anything different than the old chariot wheel base, it was a constant fight and would break wheels popping in and out of the ruts. So when you see that limousine, sports car, or diesel truck rolling down the highway, it's wheel spacing was designated by a couple horses asses. OK fine, I'll get back to work. Hello all, in regard to the argument Right or Left this was debated in my school and lead to the class doing a research lesson into it. The position in ancient times was as stated for the reasons of the sword arm. It goes further than this as to it also being the preferred or default side of the road which an advancing army would deploy to camp. This was the case as far back as the Romans. Hello Martin I am glad to hear that our gas prices are not as high as what you are paying. But I still feel our prices are way higher that what they should be ! I cant help to wonder if we are really comparing apples to apples when we talk prices. Depending on the price of living (annual income compared to the true expensive.) A while back now, I was restoring a dresser in one of the drawers there was a price label marked $22.50 with the stores name on it. and the date 1900. I found out the average income was $430.00 per year.that would make this dresser EVERY Expensive for its time. and Un-believably cheap in today's world. Basically I'm just saying is the price is not always the real number we think it is.. Having said that, I would think that you might be one of the kind of person who would be more interested in making and learning how things are made, ( trying to avoid the added expensive) . I have made A Lot of parts for my machine over the last few years. Mainly I do this because I don't want to pay top dollar unless I have to for anything, and secondly because I think that I just might be able to make it my self. I've made my own motor drive unit for the Legacy, I've also made my own ball-bearing head stock on my mill, as well as other jigs and ... I bought a book the other day, just for the name of it, The name on the book is. The Frugal wood turner. by Ernie Conover. that's my kind of book! Even with out reading it The title says it all ! (It is a very good book if I do say so my self,It is all about how to make parts of the lathe and to know what you really need to have,to become a better wood turner.) "Well" I would guess in, that since I'm the Frugal Legacy owner. I would like to know how many of us are out there? ;-) Have a good night Martin (And everyone else.) Its past my bed time now. ;-). Honestly Tim, I can't see a need for the adjustable template. I use MDF and in a matter of 3 minutes I am ready with a template that will not slide bend or bow. Still looking for an adjustable solution. Once the cmt version is screwed in place you are locked into a location. My local woodcraft did not stock the adjustable curve so I was not able to look at it and see if it would fit the bill. -Tim - Original Message - From: Martin To: legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, May 08, 2012 3:25 AM Subject: Re: Digest for legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com - 6 Messages in 2 Topics Hi, I looked at this item here in the UK but have been put off by the review of it. http://www.axminster.co.uk/fisch-flexi-curve-prod783040/#bottomsection It comes in three lengths 600, 1000 and 3000mm with the longer two being critised for being way too stiff to get a satisfactory curve. The weird thing Tim found originally, although expensive does seem the best. For me, I will just stick to the "bow string" approach and mark out onto a ply template to cut on the bandsaw. Slower but I'm not in any hurry. Have a look at the review and search out other reviews before buying maybe? Hello George Do you have any pictures of this segmented bowl? Perhaps someone could give some incites on this project for you? Sounds like a neat project. I find as we grow, we learn and strive for more. Many of my past projects I can look back apon and see little things that I could have or should have done differently."Live and Learn" Right? Well at least that is why I am here. to grow and get better, Step by step.(or perhaps It should be spindle by spindle.) we all get better. ;-) Have a great day. AND KEEP IN TOUCH. C.A.G. Getting better at it but my skills are still limited. Really want to get to a point where I can look at a piece and have a good idea how it was done. While waiting for my machine to get finished at Legacy (apparently there's a delay getting spindles) I spoke to Dane about bits and he said to contact Magnate directly for those. It sounds like Legacy is getting out of the middleman position so they can just focus on building their machines. - Jeff On 5/27/2010 7:39 PM, legacy-ornamental-mills+nore...@googlegroups.com wrote: Do you recommend ordering direct from Magnate for accessories? delrin or delron is the other name same stuff our legacy bushes and leadscrew nuts are made of here in Aus its sold as delrin in eather black or white Bill - Original Message - From: "Stickman" To: "Legacy Ornamental Mills" Sent: Wednesday, March 24, 2010 1:55 AM Subject: Re: Digest for legacy-ornamental-mills@googlegroups.com - 6 Messages in 2 Topics All those pieces are made from delrin, which is a tough but easily machined industrial-grade plastic. My swords are "functional art", designed for a lot of high-impact abuse. This material stands up to those demands better than any hardwood I've seen. A lot of common items are made from it, like the wheels on Hotwheel cars, plastic gears, etc. Unlike nylons or even ABS, it cuts very smoothly and isn't chippy like polycarbonate. Delrin is a trademarked name. The generic name is acetyl. I only order it in black, though I believe the uncolored version is an off-white. It's available in both flat and round stock as well. The lighting in the bottom photo shows the coloring, but all my pieces look like that. Though there is no grain in acetyl, I get that effect by sanding and then buffing with jeweler's rouge, which impregnates the surface with a reddish tint. At some point I've love to have a 3d scanner. Aside from some old pieces I have on my wall, I know an antique dealer who specializes in S.E. Asian artwork and weapons. I'd love to be able to do more accurate reproductions. Some of those old swords have engraved blades and highly detailed carved and even jeweled handles. - Jeff On Mar 23, 5:27 am, "Art Ransom" wrote: Now those are cool! Tell us more about Delrin. I have a 3D laser scanner kit coming this week. It will allow me to generate a 2.5D or 3D STL file that can be pulled into an CAD package to produce the G code.
