RE: facebook chat for the mac
Hi Walter. There used to be a good app for Facebook chat on the Mac called Trillian but with their recent update they've broken accessibility. I haven't checked for updates for a week to see if this is fixed because I've been using Miranda on Windows 10 all this time, but I will probably do that soon because I'll be going back to the Mac to get ready for my client. Hi all I realize this isn't new to Messages but is definitely an overlooked feature. Most of us use Messages just for iMessages and, recently, text messages. Using Messages with Facebook should definitely be considered now that third party clients are forced to abandon Facebook integration due to changes in their API. Re: Facebook Chat
I have used Facebook Chat through the Messages App since getting my Mac almost a year ago, and I find it to be a very consistent experience. The only thing that some users might find problematic is that there are no announcements about which contacts are signing in and out. Of course, your buddy list will update to reflect who is online. If memory serves, there are also no notifications about when your buddy is typing, though I believe the typing status is displayed at the bottom of the conversation window. Also, if you turn off VoiceOver’s cursor tracking with VO+SHIFT+F3, you can keep VoiceOver’s focus in the conversation window but have the keyboard focus in the compose box. This may make it easier to keep up with a rapid conversation. Another person on the list indicated this week that Facebook Chat via Jabber is now deprecated. I have no knowledge of this, and it still seems to be working perfectly, so I’m not sure what the situation might be. It looks like Jabber support is here to stay. In Windows, you can also use Skype. If you use JAWS, I think Freedom Scientific is maintaining support for Skype so the chat experience should work fairly well. Hi! I wonder if they done the same to the Skype chat! Either they have and that's why all my Facebook contacts in Skype are all showing as offline! Or it is just unlucky that all my FB contacts are offline! So if anyone else use's FB chat through Skype they might need to have a look! Hi, Brian, You can press command-1 to go to the buddies list. This will show you who's online. Your Iphone buddies are always online, and will show under your Messages account. Also, you can examine and set alerts and sounds in preferences, command-comma. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
Ok I seem to be able to send messages to Iphones using Imessage, but it almost seems like messages isn't differentiating between an Imessage and Facebook chat, as I keep getting an error message anytime I try to send a message to someone on facebook it says X account isn't registered with Imessage. I figured I had to look at who was available online in buddies then go to all contacts and find them there, there is a button there as there is not one on the buddies list. I click that it selects who to send the message to but keep getting the error message for anyone on FB. Would love to hear what I might be doing wrong, as if this works it would be fantastic. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
Does anyone know of a how to guide to using Facebook chat with Messages. I have all these new sound effects would like to know what they are. Also can't seem to find any list of my facebook friends or who is online when using messages. I did try and send a message to a friend of mine, and the to field did get his name, but when I tried sending I got a message that so and so Facebook.com is not registered with Imessage. Do people actually have to authorize their facebook accounts to work with Imessage for you to send them a message? It seems that would defeat the whole point of it, as most sighted people aren't going to do that. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
Hey Teresa, Thanks so much, as I believe I got logged in as it took me awhile to find my proper facebook name. Now I just need to find a how to to get familiar with using messages and facebook chat as my computer is making some new sound effects. Also is there an easy way to see what buddies are online? Figured I would ask about that, but going to do a google search for it now. Thanks again for your reply. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
Hi, Brian Ok, you first have to have your Facebook username. This is not the email address you typically use to log into Facebook. You'll have to go to your Facebook account to find it. Once you have it, you put it in the username field of the jabber account this way: usern...@chat.facebook.com and put your user name in place of "username". Then you put your password in. There's a disclosure triangle for server settings, but in most cases, you won't need to set those up. However, you can try this page for more info: http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/facebook-chat-macosx/ It's a little dated, but the info is still good. :) HtH, Teresa On Feb 27, 2013, at 8:22 PM, Brian Fischler wrote: > Hey Teresa, > > I didn't know you could set your Facebook account up in messages? > Would love to do this, but got an error. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
Harry, I can't give any suggestion on FB or chat clients however, I use Voiceover exclusively with FB chat on the main site and it works well. It helps that each time someone starts a chat with you, you'll receive an audio signal. If you move VO focus away from the FB chat area and you're reading or writing something at a different part of the site, you'll always receive said audio cue letting you know person has responded to your chat message or that someone has begun a new chat with you. For the most part, friends start chats with me. It use to be easier to start chats prior to about a year ago when there was a list of every person online at the time. Each link was labeled a friend's name and you could simply clicked to activate any link you wanted within the list and a new chat window would open up right there with an option just below, I seem to recall, for when you wish to close the window. Nowadays, I still see the list of links labels Friends On Chat however to whom each link corresponds is not labeled. However, just before the list begins, there is a link which reads Show Sidebar. If you activate that link and move VO to the bottom of the FB page, there you can find a list of links with your friends who are online or whether they are idol but still logged in. You can move through this clearly labeled list and pick the friend with whom you wish to chat. When you click on the name, a new chat window opens and you can begin to chat. I hope that helps should you wish to chat on the main FB site with Voiceover. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
Hi, Harry, You can use the Facebook chat in safari, but it's a bit tricky. I'd recommend using messages. Add your new account as Jabber, server name: chat.facebook.com, and put your username and password for Facebook in the appropriate areas. Your Facebook friends will show up in the buddy list, and you can check the box that says "text chat". I do facebook chats with either Skype or the AIM client; in fact, I usually use both at the same time for FB chats, since Skype doesn't make the "new message," sound if you're hovering in the message window, but AIM does, two it alerts me to an FB chat coming in to Skype (and AIM, if Skype should crash)… I guess this is killing one bird with two stones. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Facebook Chat with VoiceOver
I usually a chat client called Adium that handles fb and all your common messengers, and it works really well. I think when you set facebook up with that though, you have to actually have a username aside from just your e-mail address, if you don't already have one created. I don't remember where you go to create one anymore, sense it's been about a year or so sense I've done it, and I had no idea that even existed until I went to set it up with a similar client through Windows, and found out you had to have one, and it's long as ever, but it ends up being your usern...@chat.facebook.com. When you've entered it the next field is your Facebook password! 9. After filling those in go back to the options tab select and scroll to where you put the server name [ as you correctly said ] chat.facebook.com and enter it! 10. go to register new account button and press it! And you should be done! :] On 31 Oct 2011, at 16:31, Gavin wrote: > Hi Guys, > > Is there a way to back up the contents of an iPhone to a newly created iTunes > library without removing anything from the iPhone itself? Re: facebook chat
Facebook chat is usable but tricky, its fine if you are only chatting to one person, but becomes a bit of a nightmare when chatting to more than one person. iChat can be configured to work with Facebook and works very well, or you can take the no hassle option and use adium, AOL Instant Messenger or Yahoo Messenger etc Chris On 3 Oct 2010, at 02:23, Eric Oyen wrote: > I have been unable to use chat directly, but I use al alternative client > called adium (http://www.adium.im/) > it works with yahoo chat, icq, facebook, google chat and others. it is also > easy to setup and will even setup growl along with the client. Re: facebook chat
Hi. I myself find facebook chat to be very accessible. Just go to your facebook page, and then click on the link that says that (There will probably be a number after the word chat) Then just keep scrolling down, and you should find a list of your friends who are online. Sometimes they will read out the code of the display pictures that your friends have on the facebook page before they actually read out the name of the person you are trying to access. Give it time though, and you could use it. Justclick on the person's name who you wish to start a chat with, and you will be placed in to an edit box. Just type what you want to say and press enter. Once you hear a popping sound, it means someone has sent you a message. just go to the top of the page, and it will have all the links to the chats you have open. Click on the person name, and you will be placed in to the edit box. Have a look round nere by, and it should display heading with the dylog of the conversation. HTH, James. Re: facebook chat
I have been unable to use chat directly, but I use al alternative client called adium (http://www.adium.im/) it works with yahoo chat, icq, facebook, google chat and others. it is also easy to setup and will even setup growl along with the client. This client is also bonjour compatible. believe me, trying to get facebook chat to work with voiceover is a nightmare. I highly recommend use of this third party application. -Eric On Oct 2, 2010, at 5:41 PM, Laura Bratton wrote: > Hi All, > Is Facebook chat accessible? if so how do you use it? > Thanks, > Laura > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionar...@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en. > Eric Oyen - N7ZZT Phoenix Arizona Geocode: 33.488462 -112.234926 N33° 29.3077', W112° 14.0956' -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group.
