Hi Joe,

I assume you sold the SMC-F 70-210mm f/4-5.6 lens? If
not, I would be interested.

Thanks,

OT: Minimum requirements for Photoshop CS?

2005-01-30 Thread Steve Pearson
Hello again all,

I thought I would tap into your experience again. I
know these are some of the minimum requirements for
Photoshop CS:

 1) Intel® Pentium® III or 4 processor

 2) Microsoft® Windows® 2000 with Service Pack 3 or
Windows XP

 3) 192MB of RAM (256MB recommended)

 4) 280MB of available hard-disk space

 5) Color monitor with 16-bit color or greater video
card

 6) 1,024x768 or greater monitor resolution

I'm thinking of purchasing a new desktop sometime soon
and would like to hear from user of Photoshop CS.
What type of a "system" would you build today to work
with with Photoshop CS?

What type of system do you have to backup your work?

Also, is $299 a good deal for Photoshop CS?

TIA!

Lowest prices on film?

2002-12-13 Thread Steve Pearson
Hello all. I have fallen in love w/ Kodak 160NC! I
just hate to pay $9.00 per roll. I'm sure there are
numerous on line places to order film. I would like
to hear your input about your past experiences
ordering online. I have heard about some sites
selling imported film & not "US" film. This could be
a problem w/ outdated film?

Your suggestions for great prices on film for shipping
within the US?

Thanks all!

I did look at sold items on ebay. I just can't tell
what the going prices are for 6x7 equipment. KEH
prices look like around $400, just for the lens!

Slide for Portraits (& Scanning?)

2002-12-18 Thread Steve Pearson
I just got back 1 roll of Kodak Portra 160NC prints, &
1 roll of Fuji Astia pro. slides. Both rolls had
numerous portraits/candids of my family. Both were
shot with the same camera & lens. The slides seem to
be much more consistent with the flash. Some of the
prints show a little more "white out" on the faces.
Is this normal? If so, I'm giving serious thought to
shooting nothing but slides. It's cheaper, etc. Does
anyone out there shoot slides for weddings?

Last question-does anyone know if Costco's services
offer the ability to scan slides onto a CD? Or
another store that can do it reasonably-priced? I
have yet to buy a dedicated scanner, but the Minolta
III might be my next purchase. The shops that I talk
to all want big bucks just to scan one slide!

Medium Format-Which one is best?

I'm still on the hunt for a Medium Format setup. I

format is best-645, 67? What about 6x6 (I don't think

expensive to start with). But, in terms of Pentax,
which format do you prefer and why? Is one better
than the other?

MX Light Meter

2002-12-22 Thread Steve Pearson
Hi all, another quick question for all you MX owners.
I just picked one up, and find that the light meter is
reading -1 stop, as compared to my trusty Super
Program, with the same lens on both bodies. Is this
normal? Or, is the meter off and I should just know
to adjust for every shot? Should I have it adjusted
at a store?

I just shot a roll of slides and they will be back
next Friday to see how accurate it is. Just curious
about other MX meters...

Thanks

Re: 6x6 - Waste of Space? (WAS: Re: Medium Format-Which one is best?)

2002-12-27 Thread Steve Pearson
As the originator of this thread, all of you will be
happy to know that I did purchase the Yashica Mat LM
to begin my journey into MF. I have really enjoyed
everyone's comments about the 6x6 format (and others).
Although it is not a Pentax (hopefully it will be
someday soon), I would appreciate any ideas or
suggestions on the 6x6 format. It sounds like many of
you out there currently use this format. Are there
any recomendations out there for reference books,
specific to the 6x6 format? Also, what is your
favorite 120 film, in both B&W and color negative, for
portraits? How about for landscapes?

Thanks again all!

Thanks for you help. At this point, it does not
appear that any of those things are happening. So,
can I leave it alone, and save myself some $?

I was also giving some thought to purchasing one of

Actually, I have an MX as well, that needs a 50mm
lens. So, my Super Program has the A 1.7 & I thought
I might try to find an M 1.4 for the MX. Anyone have
one for sale? Then, I could always swap the two back

Does a price of $39 sound about right for this lens

Re: Best Backdrop color for B&W portraits?

2003-01-03 Thread Steve Pearson
I agree, however our babe is only 1 month old. So,
I'm pretty much stuck with "posed" shots, seeing as
how she can't even sit up on her own. She's just too
cute (biased of course) to not take any pics at this
early age!

Thanks for the help, I will definately check out the

Re: Re: Best Backdrop color for B&W portraits?

2003-01-04 Thread Steve Pearson
Thanks Dave,
Believe me I am. My wife fears that I am going to
blind her due to all of the flashes. The photographer
in me just can't stop. This is actually our 3rd
child, so I have had great models to work with. I
know that she only gets older, not younger. I keep
saying that she will never be this small again. It is
amazing how hard it is to try and capture that on
film. I'm still tryhing to find something that would
give a good referenc point for size.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Hi again all,
I just acquired the SMC-M 28mm F/3.5 lens. I will

there actually times where you can say you had to have

Thanks for providing info. about the usefulness of

Need help w/ how to use SM lenses on K mount bodies

2003-01-14 Thread Steve Pearson
Hi all,

I have seen on ebay that there is some kind of adapter
that will allow me to mount screw mount lenses onto my
K mount bodies (Super Program & MX). Is this a
permanent device? How hard is it to put on-can I do
it myself? Is it easier to install on the Super
Program or the MX, or is it the same? Is there any
kind of resource (ie web site) that gives details on
this?

Finally, is all of this worth it so that I can use one
of those "awesome" Takumar 50mm 1.4 SM's, or should I
just go and buy an SMC-M 1.4?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

2003-01-15 Thread Steve Pearson
Thanks everyone for your help. I understand now how
to use the adapter. Now for the important question-is
it worth it? IOW, is it worth it to do this for one
lens (IE the Super Tak. 50mm, 1.4), or should I just
find an M 50mm, 1.4? Comments on image quality
differences?

Is it still easy to find a good quality Super Tak.
50mm, 1.4? I imagine the SMC-M is easier to find, in
good condition?

Also, I would then only have 1 SM lens and going back
& forth might be a bit of a pain?

I think you forgot some of the other costs associated
with digital in your example. What about the cost of
the printer itself? The paper & ink supplies? And
most important, the time involved to "do it yourself"?

LX Questions

2003-01-29 Thread Steve Pearson
Hi all. I'm in the market for an LX. Currently have
a Super Program & an MX. Thinking about selling both
to acquire the LX, and I have a few questions for
current LX owners.

Have I read something about the LX having some kind of
on board circutry, or computer, that helps with
exposure? Is there really any difference between the
LX and my Super Program/MX bodies? In other words, if
you took the exact same picture with these 3 bodies
(assuming the same lens was used), would there be much
difference?

Is the main factor for the higher prices on the LX the
metal body? What else makes this camera so beloved?

Thanks!

Re: Best AND cheapest Pentax lenses

Fred:

Are you referring to:
PENTAX - ZOOM LENSES
35-70 F4 SMC A (58) / 2 TOUCH ???

Because on Boz's site it does not mention a macro

Maybe I have the wrong lens? If so, would you mind

Advice needed on SMC 120mm/F2.8 lens

2003-02-11 Thread Steve Pearson
Hi all,

Today I was in my local candy store, er, camera shop,
looking at their used K mount offerings, when a lady
comes in and wants to sell the above referenced lens.
She was going to get advice on pricing, but I had to
leave. I did not even know Pentax made this focal
length in the K mount.

Is this lens worth pursuing? I already own the SMC-A
100 F2.8 & the SMC-M 135, F3.5 and the SMC-A 135 F2.8.

What would be a "good" price to offer her for this
lens if it is worth acquiring?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Paul:

After seeing your post, I called the owner just now.
Apparently after I left the store, the guy behind the
counter pulled out some kind of special light. When
he looked inside the lens, he said it is full of mold.
He said it is basically a paper weight. So,
tomorrow, I am getting the lens for FREE. Now the
question is, is it possible to clean it? Anyone have
any thoughts on who I could send it to? Does Pentax
in Colorado do this kind of work?

Is it even worth it? Is it too expensive to fix? Can
it be done???

Thanks again for the help!

Re: Best lens value for the *ist-D

2003-02-28 Thread Steve Pearson
Well, sometimes the best made plans...

I was in my local pentax store today and the Pentax
representative told them that the sensor size will
probably change to a larger size before the *ist is
released. So, something more to discuss...

Clean bill of health for the 120mm!

2003-03-01 Thread Steve Pearson
Got the SMC 120mm back from the shop yesterday. All
fungus has been removed and it looks as good as new!
Can't wait to give it a try. If only I had an *ist!!!

I would say there's no reason to be afraid of a lens
with fungus (as long as the shop knows what they're
doing). Just my thoughts...

Daylight Fill-Flash w/ 280 on Super Program

2003-03-01 Thread Steve Pearson
Hi all,
I recently acquired the AF280T flash to use on my
Super Program. The manual does not mention anyting
about daylight fill-flash. Can someone help me? I
assume it is possible, but how should I go about it?
Is there any reference material on the internet that
might help me?

Thanks very much in advance!

Re: Daylight Fill-Flash w/ 280 on Super Program

2003-03-02 Thread Steve Pearson
Glenn:

First of all, I assume you set the camera shutter
speed to the same as the sync setting (125x), in
manual mode? Or, do I leave shutter set to AUTO? The
manual does say to leave the Super Program set to AUTO
for TTL flash.

Second, when you say to "turn the exposure
compensation dial to reduce the flash power. So you
can get fill-flash at one or two stops less than the
daylight", are you referring to the settings on the
flash or on the camera? I think you are talking about
the exposure compensation on the camera. Here's where
I'm ignorant. Which setting do I set it to? I don't
know if I should set it to 1/2x, 1/4x, 2x, or 4x?

Also, I have read another way is to simply slide the
flash ISO setting to twice the film. So, for ISO 100
film, set the flash to 200 and you have a 1 stop fill.
So, would 400 be a 2 stop fill? What I don't know is
do you need to shoot in manual mode, or can I set the
camera on AUTO (or 125x)?

Sorry all for my stupidity. I don't shoot with flash
enough to remember.

I know nothing about digital memory, so why is it that
you can buy 2 256MB cards for less than 1 512MB card?

Also, one of Lexar's 512MB card mentions "Write

advantage to this technology that is worth the extra
cost?

Is one brand better or worse than another?

Is it safe to assume that the new *ist will work with
all of these cards?

OK,
So in order to get accurate exposure, is this a
setting that has to be on the camera body, or on the

Re: *ist v. MZ or ZX series.

2003-03-05 Thread Steve Pearson
OK,
Thanks. I plan on waiting for the *ist D. Did
somebody say it will have HSS?

Then, I will also have to add the 360 flash.

Thanks again!

Re: Re[2]: KAF3 lens mount already here?

2003-03-11 Thread Steve Pearson
I AGREE WITH THIS 1000% If they do abandon the K
mount on the *ist D, I think it would be a huge
mistake. Not only to current Pentax glass owners, but
non-owners as well. If they do abandon the K mount, I
will abandon Pentax...

Release Date for *ist D???

2003-03-22 Thread Steve Pearson
I've been away from the list for awhile. Any news on
when the *ist D might be available to purchase? Did I
see someone mention a July date?
