[RollTideFan] Bama Had A Plan Today

And worked it to perfection. Since the 2nd quarter disaster at UGA,
they've now put together 6 winning quarters of football in a row. Rader

O-Line came up huGe in today's game and Shaud is the toughest 5'8, 180lb

[RollTideFan] Funny Joke

2003-10-10 Thread Rick McMahan
Maybe y'all have seen this one, either way it made me laugh...enjoy...

~~~
A state trooper pulls a car over for speeding. In the car is an old
lady who is hard of hearing and her husband.
When the trooper asks the lady for her driver's license the lady
responds, Heh, what did he say??
The old man speaks up as he says, HE NEEDS YOUR DRIVER'S LICENSE.
A few minutes later the trooper comes back to the car and says, Ma'am
I see you're from Florida.
The old lady comments, Heh, what did he say??
The old man speaks up as he says, HE SEES YOU'RE FROM FLORIDA. The old
lady nods her head, Yup.
The trooper mutters, Boy, one time, I got the worst piece of ass I
ever had in Florida.
The old lady replies, Heh, what did he say??
The old man yells, HE SAYS HE THINKS HE KNOWS YOU!
Pat, I hate the fact that BAMA can only play for pride this season.
Winning CHAMPIONSHIPS and going to bowls is what it's all about at BAMA.
You can bet I'll be cheering and hollering for BAMA each and every time
they take the field and believing that they will find a way to win EVERY
F'ING GAME! That's just the way it is...but the last three weeks have
[RollTideFan] Wendell Hudson - AAD
2003-10-10 Thread Rick McMahan
So when did Hudson come onboard as the Associate AD? I completely missed
this announcement.
I am very excited about the addition of Wendell Hudson to our Athletic
Department as Associate Athletic Director. I truly believe that this is
a fantastic hire by Mal Moore for so many different reasons. It is
really exciting that Wendell has returned to his alma mater and he is
very capable of bringing a lot to the table in regard to the Athletic
Department. For most of you who do not know, Wendell has served as the
Athletic Director at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas and has
done an outstanding job. Wendell was the first African-American student
athlete here at the University of Alabama and was a pioneer in so many
different ways for our Athletic Department.
I also believe that it gives our student athletes in all sports a role
model for a position within this Athletic Department knowing that there
are opportunities for minorities here in the University of Alabama’s
Athletic Department. Wendell will have oversight of men’s and women’s
basketball along with helping with raising the necessary funds for our
Crimson Tradition Fund. I don’t think there is any question that Wendell
will be a tremendous asset in numerous ways to our University.
[RollTideFan] USM Struggles Too...
2003-10-08 Thread Rick McMahan
USM's performance has Bower puzzled
Somehow, some way, Golden Eagles find way to come back for win
By Tim Doherty
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Forget any probing answers to the inevitable questions about starting
quarterbacks or Jekyll-and-Hyde defenses or Crimson Tides.
And forgive the shrug-of-the shoulder postgame Saturday night.
In all likelihood, Southern Miss coach Jeff Bower still is trying to
figure out how his Golden Eagles pulled off a 22-20 Conference USA
victory at Cincinnati. Either that, or trying to decide whether to treat
his team to a group hug or a big whap upside its collective helmet.
"Good football teams, teams that believe they are going to find a way to
win, find a way to win," Bower said not long after Darren McCaleb's
game-winning field goal had wobbled through the uprights for the winning
points.
But after watching the first 17:26 of the game at Nippert Stadium, any
who believed USM had the wherewithal to beat the Bearcats have to be
card-carrying members of the Optimist Hall of Fame.
Early on, the Golden Eagles, 3-2, looked worse than bad.
Consider:
About the only positive thing USM's defense managed on three of the
first four times the Bearcats had the ball was to force field goals
instead of touchdowns.
At the time, when UC was outgaining USM 148 yards to 6 yards, that
didn't seem to matter. It would.
USM's offense was having an even tougher go than its defense over that
stretch.
Damion Carter looked every bit the freshman in his first ever start. In
his four series, USM did not record a first down, netting six yards,
total, including zero yards rushing.
Carter's first pass of the evening turned into Cincinnati's first
touchdown as Daven Holly intercepted Carter's gift and returned it for a
10-0 lead.
USM's special teams refused to be left out, with McCaleb shanking an
extra point and a holding call bringing back a John Eubanks' kickoff
return to midfield.
" ... We weren't looking very good and things weren't going well on
either side of the ball," Bower said.
But five big plays by USM brought the Golden Eagles back:
Michael Boley's sack-and-strip of Gino Guidugli set up USM's first
score, a 3-yard pass from Carter to Anthony Harris.
Eubanks' then supplied the shifter, a 94-yard kickoff return after
Cincinnati had taken a 20-6 lead.
Reserve running back Sherron Moore ripped off a 33-yard run to spark a
48-yard drive that resulted in McCaleb's first field goal.
Dustin Almond, who replaced Carter, hit Marvin Young on a 49-yard play
to set up McCaleb's second boot.
After a holding penalty wiped out a UC first-and-goal at USM's 1, Chet
Ervin missed a 44-yard field goal attempt.
Almond converted three, third-down plays — USM's only such conversions
of the game — to set up McCaleb's winner. Trevis Coley's pick sealed the
win.
So, despite a season-low 200 yards total offense, the Golden Eagles
walked off the field a winner.
"We had their number," Holly said. "They couldn't do much ... They made
a few plays here and there, and those were the ones that made the
difference."
[RollTideFan] ESPN's SEC West Notebook
2003-10-08 Thread Rick McMahan
Alabama coach Mike Shula has taken heat for inserting an injured Brodie
Croyle into the Georgia game trailing 30-3. Shula said the coaches had
decided before the game that Croyle would play if needed, based on
advice from the team doctors and trainers.
Croyle separated his left, non-throwing shoulder a week earlier and was
knocked out again after landing hard on his second play against the
Bulldogs.
Shula said he's not second-guessing the decision.
Croyle, meanwhile, said he was ``begging'' his coach to put him into the
game.
``It was a situation I needed to be in there,'' Croyle said. ``I just
landed on it and it kind of slid in and out. It wasn't near as bad as
the week before, it was just already irritated and upset.''
Backup Spencer Pennington separated his throwing shoulder in the third
quarter and expects to miss about four weeks.
Redshirt freshman Brandon Avalos will start Saturday against Southern
Mississippi if Croyle can't go.
Croyle said he isn't worried about further injuring his shoulder.
``There isn't much else I can do to it,'' he said. ``It can come out and
they can put it back in. That's all that can happen.''
Coach Houston Nutt doesn't expect to see the Razorbacks start to fall
from their spot as the SEC's least-penalized team.
Arkansas was flagged 11 times for 74 yards in its 34-31 victory over
Alabama on Sept. 27, but it still leads the conference with an average
of 45 penalty yards per game.
It's big turnaround from 2002, when Arkansas ranked 11th in the SEC,
averaging 71.6 yards per game. The Razorbacks picked up many taunting,
unnecessary roughness and celebration penalties last year.
At Alabama, left tackle Bo Lacy had three of the team's five false start
penalties and there were two unsportsmanlike penalties.
``We've been emphasizing it since January that we're going to have the
fewest penalties in the league,'' Nutt said. ``Right now we're the best
in SEC. There was a noise factor that hurt us with five illegal
procedures. We're at home, so you hope you won't get that five or six.
``With our seniors and the way we're approaching penalties it's been
very good. We've had very few celebration penalties this year, if any at
all.''
___=
Humble and soft-spoken, quarterback Jason Campbell isn't really the type
to be vocal about his critics. Perhaps it's evidence of his confidence
right now that he took a few gentle shots this week, saying most fans
don't see little things like him checking into the right plays and
reading defenses.
``People criticize me, but they really don't understand what goes on,''
Campbell said. ``When I get an opportunity to make plays, I make them. I
just do my job.
``Talk is cheap. You've got to let your playing do your talking for you.''
Not surprisingly, Campbell's stats have improved dramatically with the
resurgence of the running game. He has thrown five touchdown passes and
no interceptions in the past three games, completing 70 percent of his
attempts.
``He's taken some shots over the year and I've never seen him rattled,''
coach Tommy Tuberville said. ``I've never seen him lose his composure.
``He's starting to be a little bit more vocal with the offense. I'm just
impressed with what he does when he gets to the line of scrimmage on
play selection and reading the defense and getting the play called on
the right side.''
___=
The Tigers' pass rush, one of the best in the SEC, plans to make life
difficult on Florida freshman quarterback Chris Leak.
``It's very exciting,'' LSU middle linebacker Lionel Turner said. ``By
him being a freshman, he can get rattled much quicker. We rattled
(Georgia quarterback David) Greene, but it took awhile for us to get to
him. It's going to be very exciting to see how much we get to (Leak) at
the beginning of the game. I know coach (Nick) Saban is going to be
putting in a lot of blitzes.''
LSU is second in the Southeastern Conference with 15 sacks for minus-111
yards. Florida is eighth in allowing sacks with 12 for minus-73 yards.
Leak was sacked just once against Ole Miss as Florida coach Ron Zook and
offensive coordinator Ed Zaunbrecher continued to keep it conservative
with 35 runs and 27 passes.
Leak was 14-for-27 for 234 yards in the loss to Ole Miss.
``You've got to get to him and put him on the ground,'' LSU defensive
end Marcus Spears said. ``You don't have to necessarily sack him, but if
you get him on the ground a few times he'll start thinking about it.''
___=
For the past few seasons, Ole Miss has been among the worst defense's in
the Southeastern Conference against the run.
This year things have changed. Now, the Rebels can't stop the pass.
Ole Miss ranks last in the nation in pass defense _ thanks in large part
to the 661 yards Texas Tech hung on the Rebels two weeks ago.
What's gotten lost in all the panic about the pass defense is that the
Rebels are doing a solid job against the run.
Sure, the numbers are skewed because few
[RollTideFan] ESPN's SEC East Notebook
2003-10-08 Thread Rick McMahan
To answer the question no Gator fan ever thought would need to be
answered: Yes, the team's victory against Division I-AA Florida A&M will
count toward Florida's six-win requirement to become bowl eligible.
The NCAA rulebook states that teams are allowed to use one win against a
Division I-AA team over a four-year span toward the six-win requirement.
Florida, which has had at least six victories every year since 1980, has
never had to use the exemption.
At 3-3, and with four games left against Top 10 teams, starting Saturday
at No. 6 LSU, the Gators (1-2 SEC) are in jeopardy of missing the
postseason for the first time since 1990, when the team was on probation.
A 6-6 record would qualify the Gators for the postseason, assuming the
SEC still had bowl tie-ins remaining after all the teams with more than
six wins were accounted for.
Besides the Bowl Championship Series games, the SEC has tie-ins with
seven other bowls. It means if the conference places two teams in the
BCS, the league would have nine slots available for bowl-eligible teams.<
___=
David Greene has thrown four interceptions in the last two games, but
coach Mark Richt isn't concerned.
Richt said only one of the picks was especially troubling _ an errant
pass that was returned 30 yards for a touchdown by Alabama last week.
``He lost focus for the first time since I've been here,'' Richt said.
``Greene didn't locate the safety, which is Football 101. That might be
the first play we do in camp. You have to know where the safety is.''
Greene has taken some big hits the last two games, one of which left him
with an injured knee at LSU. Richt points to a lack of success beating
man-to-man coverages, allowing defenses to do more blitzing.
Greene has tumbled in the pass-efficiency ratings, dropping to sixth in
the SEC and 43rd nationally. He'll need to play better when the No. 8
Bulldogs (4-1, 2-1) meet 13th-ranked Tennessee on Saturday in a crucial
conference game.
Center Russ Tanner isn't worried.
``David is in no way shaken up by having a couple of picks,'' Tanner
said. ``He's the calmest, coolest guy under pressure. Nobody goes
through a game without a mistake, but it's about learning from the
mistake and moving on. I think we all do that pretty well.''<
___=
South Carolina has been a bugaboo of sorts for Kentucky quarterback
Jared Lorenzen.
In 2000, as a freshman, he passed for 304 yards, completing 34 of 52
attempts, but the Wildcats lost 20-17. He lost his starting job as a
sophomore to Shane Boyd before the 2001 game against the Gamecocks and
did not play.
Last year, Lorenzen completed 22 of 37 passes for 194 yards and one
touchdown and did not throw an interception, but Kentucky lost 16-12.
The 2000 game was ``one of those, I wish I had about three or four balls
back _ the story of my career,'' Lorenzen said. ``Last year was one of
those, I thought it was a coulda, woulda, shoulda, but they stepped up
and made a great play at the end and we just didn't get the ball in the
end zone.''
Whatever his troubles against South Carolina _ Kentucky's opponent on
Thursday _ Lorenzen is quietly rising the SEC career charts.
The senior has 9,305 yards of total offense, having passed Florida's
Shane Matthews to move into fourth place. Lorenzen, with 9,061 passing
yards, needs 104 yards to jump past Rex Grossman (Florida) and Tommy
Hodson (LSU) into fifth place in SEC history.
With seven games left for the Wildcats (2-3, 0-2), Lorenzen has a decent
chance to move to No. 3 on the passing yardage list and No. 2 on the
total offense list. The top three spots on both lists are held by Peyton
Manning (Tennessee), Eric Zeier (Georgia) and Danny Wuerffel (Florida).
``If you start worrying about that, then you're worrying about numbers
and not worried about the team,'' Lorenzen said. ``I am not anything
without my linemen and my receivers and my backs _ from the ones that
I've had to the ones I have now. They have done everything for me. I
have an easy job just getting them the ball. It would be nice (to move
up the charts), but if it happens, it happens, and if it doesn't, that's
great, too.''<
___=
The plan, South Carolina coach Lou Holtz says, is to kick it away from
Kentucky's lethal return weapon, Derek Abney. Whether his Gamecocks
(3-2, 0-2) can that Thursday night is another matter.
``If we can't make a field goal,'' Holtz said, ``how are we going to
kick it to a designated spot?''
Abney is one touchdown return away from the NCAA record. He's had five
[RollTideFan] Freshmen Carter to Start for USM
2003-10-06 Thread Rick McMahan
The little buzzards are starting their own freshmen QB this Saturday...
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) _ Damion Carter a  freshman from New Orleans was
3-for-6 for 23 yards with a touchdown and an interception in a 22-20
victory over Cincinnati last Saturday.
Dustin Almond relieved Carter and helped engineer three drives that
resulted in field goals, including the game-winner with less than two
minutes left in the game.
Almond was 9-for-18 for 133 yards.
``The only way Damion is going to get better is to play,'' Golden Eagles
coach Jeff Bower said on Monday. ``I have a lot of confidence in him and
we'll play him and start him, but Dustin will
also play.''
Bower said Carter made a misread early in the game that might have cost
Southern Miss a long touchdown.
``He is going to have some learning experiences, and I thought he might
have gotten a little rattled there early,'' Bower said. ``But he came
back and showed some poise and made a play for a
touchdown pass.''
Almond started in place of Micky D'Angelo, who is recovering from a
concussion, against Nebraska two weeks ago. Almond played poorly in the
38-14 loss.
Carter played most of the fourth quarter against the Cornhuskers and was
nearly flawless with the game no longer in doubt.
Bower said he is pleased with the way Almond has reacted to the demotion.
``He came back and worked real hard last week,'' Bower said. ``He was
into the ball game even when he wasn't in there. He was paying attention
and watching, and I think that helped his
performance once he got in there.''
Bower hopes to have two injured starters back against Alabama.
Cornerback Greg Brooks (ankle) and running back Timmy Blackwell (ankle)
both missed the Cincinnati game.
Guard Travis Cooley, who has missed the last three games after knee
surgery, could also return on Saturday, Bower said.
Here's a new retirement plan...
If you had bought $1,000.00 of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now
be worth $49.00. With Enron, you would have $16.50 of the original
$1,000.00. With Worldcom, you would have less than $5.00 left. If you
had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser (the beer, not the stock) one
year ago, drunk all the beer then turned in the cans for the 10-cent
deposit, you would have $214.00.
Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily
and recycle. This is a new retirement program, I call it the 401Keg.
Two Aubs were adrift in a lifeboat following a dramatic escape
from a burning freighter. While rummaging through the boat's
provisions, one of the men stumbled across an old lamp. Secretly
hoping that a genie would appear, he rubbed the lamp vigorously. To
the amazement of the castaways, a genie came forth. This particular
genie, however, stated that he could only deliver one wish, not the
standard three.
Without giving much thought to the matter the man blurted out, "Make
the entire ocean into beer!" The genie clapped his hands with a
deafening crash, and immediately the entire sea turned into the finest
brew ever sampled by mortals.
Simultaneously, the genie vanished. Only the gentle lapping of beer on
the hull broke the stillness as the men considered their
circumstances.
One man looked disgustedly at the other whose wish had been granted.
After a long, tension-filled moment, he spoke:
"Nice going idiot! Now we're going to have to piss in the
boat!"
I agree with you Slef, my primary point is I believe it's a bit
premature for fans to start the "fire Kines" campaign. FWIW, I wasn't
overjoyed when Kines was hired by Pappy, matter of fact I was
disappointed. But this is the hand we've been dealt, so we must deal
with it. Losing 5 or 6 starters from last season's defense has not
helped our situation.
I have a sinking feeling that David Greene is going to school our boys
on defense this week to the tune of about 350 yards... :(  Madison
[RollTideFan] Banged-up Brodie
2003-09-29 Thread Rick McMahan
Banged-up Croyle 'planning on playing’
By Cecil Hurt
Sports Editor
September 29, 2003
TUSCALOOSA | People who say that University of Alabama quarterback
Brodie Croyle can really sling it were literally correct on Sunday.
The Tide sophomore had his left arm in a sling after suffering a
shoulder separation in the first half of Saturday night’s 34-31 overtime
loss to Arkansas.
“It was stiff and tight this morning," Croyle said. “I’ve just got to
take it day-by-day and get it back where it needs to be. If it’s up to
me, then I’m there [for Saturday’s Georgia game] no matter what. I’m
planning on playing."
Croyle, who was wearing a brace, suffered the injury on a hit by
Arkansas linebacker Tony Bua late in the first half.
“[The shoulder] came out on the hit," Croyle said. “It was already out
when I hit the ground. It was the same one that was hurt in the South
Florida game, but this was the first time it has stayed out."
Croyle changed braces on the shoulder at halftime and returned to the game.
“It limits you a little," he said.
Tide head coach Mike Shula said that Croyle’s chances of playing would
depend on his status for the Tide’s practices Tuesday and Wednesday.
Back-up Spencer Pennington got the majority of repetitions at the brief
Sunday practice and will continue to get increased practice time this week.
“Hopefully, Brodie will play," Shula said. “Brodie is tough, but we will
be talking with the trainers and doctors to make sure he can’t hurt it
worse."
Shula was less optimistic about the chances for two defensive standouts
to return in time for Saturday’s 2:30 p.m. CBS game at Georgia.
“I’d say Antwan (Odom) and Derrick (Pope) are going to be tough calls
this week," Shula said. “I don’t know how much they are going to
practice this week. If I had to guess about those three guys, I’d say
Brodie will play and I’m not sure about the other two."
Both Odom and Pope suffered ankle sprains late in the game against
Arkansas. Shula said many of the Tide defenders had “bumps and bruises"
after playing 88 snaps against the Razorbacks.
Shula also said that defensive tackle Taylor Britt did not play against
the Razorbacks “for disciplinary reasons."
“Taylor is currently suspended," Shula said. “He is still a member of
the team."
DeMeco Ryans’ performance Saturday was overshadowed by the dramatic
Arkansas victory, but the sophomore linebacker from Bessemer entered the
Alabama record books as coaches’ film revealed that he had 25 total
tackles in the game (24 on defense and one on special teams.)
“He’s one of our most talented players on defense, and he is only going
to get better," Shula said. “He has good size and good speed. I don’t
think he realizes yet just how special he can be."
Ryans said it was “great" to set the record, but added that it lost some
luster because of the eventual outcome.
“It still hurts to lose that game," he said after Sunday’s practice. “We
were all trying to win.
“Making tackles is just instinctive. You use your eyes and fly to the
ball. That’s what being a linebacker is all about."
The previous Alabama record of 24 tackles was shared by Mike Hall
(Clemson, 1968) and Wayne Davis (Texas A&M, 1985). Lee Roy Jordan had 31
tackles against Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl on January 1, 1963, but bowl
records are not included with regular-season performances in UA statistics.
PLAYERS OF The Week, as selected by the Tide staff, were center J.B.
Closner (offense), Ryans (defense) and Lance Taylor (special teams.)
The pig game was PAINFUL. I can't recall Bama ever blowing a 21 point
lead. But like I said last week, I do not want to criticize this team
(maybe next year, but not in 2003). I will say this much, mental
breakdowns and terrible punting definitely contributed to letting Arky
get back into the game. The effort and desire to win was there
yesterday. Bama played with passion, but they were outmanned by the hogs.
I will also try not to over analyze this year's team. I plan to enjoy
the games, let the coaches coach, and not get to upset when things don't
go our way.
When will home field advantage return to BDS? The fans are loud, they're
into the game, but for some unexplainable reason Bama has forgotten how
to consistently win at home. That is just plain weird to me. Plus Bama
has forgotten how to win a close game. We're 3-10 in games decided by 10
points or less since 1999.
Brighter football days will come, but there will be more tough games
just like this one. BTW, that is exactly what the sanctions are supposed
to do.
ROLL TIDE FOREVER!
[RollTideFan] From Mal
2003-09-03 Thread Rick McMahan
September 2, 2003
Dear Crimson Tide Fan,
For the first time ever, a No. 1 ranked team will be visiting Tuscaloosa
for a football game, and we ask you to remember that you are
representing the University just as our coaches and players are. The
folks from Oklahoma treated us with respect last year and we can
reciprocate this year by showing class and pride to our visitors.
It will certainly be a test for Coach Mike Shula, his staff and our
players, but regardless of Saturday's outcome, our future on the
gridiron is in good hands with Mike. I thought Coach Shula and the
entire staff did an excellent job last weekend against South Florida,
and this team has the ability and mental toughness to continue to
improve each and every week.
As a precaution, I want all of you who are planning to attend the
Oklahoma game to realize that our campus is undergoing a number of
building projects, which will make the University a much better place in
the future but it does create some short-term complications,
particularly in the number of lost parking spots on campus.
I encourage you to act as a team and car pool, if possible, and be sure
to get to Tuscaloosa early because of the limited parking places. Of
course, one of the many building projects on-going is the construction
of the strength and conditioning facility which will be attached to the
north end of the football complex.
Thad Turnipseed, who is overseeing all of the athletic facility
improvement package, tells me we are on target to complete this
particular project before the January recruiting period - and it clearly
illustrates our commitment to building the best complex possible for our
student-athletes, coaches and staff. It will be a state-of-the art
addition, and will be a major enhancement for our current and future
athletes in all sports.
Speaking of our current players, I was extremely happy to hear that
Shaud Williams was picked as the "SEC Player of the Week" for his
performance against South Florida. Shaud is the consummate team player,
who does everything well on the field, but he is also a leader on and
off the gridiron.
After the game in the locker room, Shaud presented the game ball to
Coach Shula, a fitting tribute to what Mike has done to take control of
this team in such a short period of time.
A couple of other quick items for you - our game with Kentucky has been
picked up by ESPN and will be televised beginning at 6:45 p.m. Our game
with Northern Illinois, a team that beat Maryland last week, will also
be at night, with the kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. This game will be
offered on a pay-per-view basis.
There are tickets remaining for the NIU game and there are still some
Tide Pride seats available, the only ones left for Saturday's game with
Oklahoma.
Once again, I encourage you to support our athletic department by
joining TIDE PRIDE. We still have a limited number of seats remaining in
the Bama, Touchdown, and Crimson Tide clubs, but they are selling fast.
For a direct link to order tickets on line, please click TIDE PRIDE.
Saturday night Harry Gilmer and Don Salls will receive the 2003 Paul W.
Bryant Alumni Award, which is given annually to lettermen who have
excelled in their careers after leaving the University. We will also
recognize Bert Bank, who was chosen as the National Veteran of the Year,
an honor that in the past that has gone to men like Charles Lindbergh,
Jimmy Stewart and General William Westmoreland. Harry will bring out the
game ball this week and next week Tommy Lewis will do that honor, which
has become part of our game day traditions.
We look forward to seeing many of you Saturday - and don't forget the
parking situation on campus.
Roll Tide,
Mal Moore
Director of Athletics
[RollTideFan] Is Bama Ready?
2003-09-02 Thread Rick McMahan
 It’s already assured that history will be made on Saturday, when the
Oklahoma Sooners become the first No. 1 team not named Alabama to step
onto the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Sooners will come with the No. 1 mystique, and a roster full of
talent, especially defensive talent. But they will not be a mystery. In
fact, Alabama’s players probably feel like they know Oklahoma almost as
well as they know themselves, since they have spent approximately 365
days thinking about last year’s meeting with OU.
The Tide players remember the trip to Norman, the 20-point halftime
deficit, and their second-half rally to take the lead and stun the home
crowd. They remember Oklahoma answering back, with Renaldo Works
sparking an 80-yard touchdown drive. And they remember, vividly, the
sick feeling as the football popped out of Tyler Watts’ hand with 24
seconds to play, denying the Tide a chance to possibly tie or win the
game as Eric Bassey recovered the fumble and raced for a touchdown.
“We have unfinished business," Tide quarterback Brodie Croyle said on
Sunday.
“It really hurt," junior defensive tackle Ahmad Childress said. “That
was the most frustrating game of the whole year. We had them in the palm
of our hand, and then, it was like a snap of the fingers and they were gone.
“We should have stopped them on that last drive. This year, the defense
needs to dominate all day so we won’t be in that predicament again."
As the game gets closer, you'll feel differently. It's always great to see
So the lights
went out in the '83 game in Foxboro, that would've been Perkin's first
year. Bama went 7-4 in the regular season that year. I don't remember any of the
details of the '83 game, but I do know Bama lost. I remember being
really sick after the '84 season opener with BC in Birmingham. That was
the game were Kerry Goode was all-world in the first half, Bama had a
sizable lead, then Goode blew-out his knee on the opening second half kickoff.
Flutie starting his Heisman run in the second half against Bama as well and
Bama's '84 season went down hill from that point.
btw, they'll
definitely be watching the Bama game at the bars in Nashville on the 27th, the
locals will all be pulling for the Cyclones.
Have a safe trip
to Nashville, just use the terms "we'ins" and "you'ins" a lot and you'll fit
right in!
RE: [RollTideFan] CNNSI.com confirms Bama to Shreveport
2001-12-09 Thread Rick McMahan
Does it *really* matter that Bama plays in Shreveport instead of Nashville.
The Indy Bowl is on the 27th, the MC Bowl on the 28th, so no real difference
in practice days. Iowa State or Boston College is a wash too. The Indy Bowl
got to pick before the MC Bowl, they *wanted* The Tide and personally, I'm
*extremely happy* to be playing in any bowl. Selfishly, I wanted the MC
Bowl, because it's more likely I could have gone to it, but it'll be nice
seeing Bama play in the post-season again, even if I have to stay home and
watch it on ESPN.
Congrats on turning it around BAMA!!!
BOWL BAMA BOWL and ROLL Frigg'in TIDE ROLL!
