[RCSE] For Sale: NIB 4m MDM-1 Fox by S2G
New In Box, 1/3.5 scale 4m wingspan MDM-1 Fox by Czech company S2G. Kit comes ARF, with wings and tailplane covered, spoilers in wings installed. All that is left to do is mount the canopy, install the radio gear, balance and fly. Paid just under $700 for it from Northeast Sailplanes, has sat in the box for over a year and I've not gotten started on it yet. Asking $500, buyer to pay shipping costs (which will be significant, this is a BIG box). Prefer to sell to SoCal buyer, if possible, so shipping cost can be avoided. I don't care who makes it, that's what I want. I want pre-programmed NOTHING. Let me sort it out, I actually do know best what I want to do with my radio. For now, the Profi 4000 is what lets me do what I want to do with minimal BS. That's what I'm kicking the big bucks out for, after all. If I wanted limitations I'd just stick with Hitec. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I went down the same path some time ago. I have a Profi I'll make you a good deal on. snip They are for sale because I found the JR9303. Ironically enough, this past weekend my friend had to bring two radios out to the slope, his new JR9303 and his older Hitec Flash 5, because he could not reassign the channels on the 9303 to work with one of the planes he brought. Apparently, to for the elevon mixing to work right you have to put the servos on channels 1 6 with the 9303, but as he has a 5 channel Rx that wasn't going to work. I don't know if he just wasn't familiar enough with the 9303 or what, but I do know that re-assigning servos to channels and/or controls is a trivial undertaking with the Profi 4000. Re: [RCSE] Rare earth magnets as wing retention devices?
Bill Swingle wrote: Now that we've discussed this at length, has anyone noticed that the magnetic force is not actually suited to this application? Meaning, any displacement of the parts involved reduces the attractive force significantly. But, what is really called for is the opposite characteristic. But actually, isn't that just about the perfect wing retention device for this application? Suitably sized, a rare earth magnet setup would shrug off a minor hit (wing drag or whatever) but would allow you to pull the wing apart with minor effort once the initial bond was broken. Plus wing rigging becomes truly plug and play if you have automatic servo connections. The rare earth magnets I have exhibit quite impressive and sufficient magnet force at a distance of 1/2 - 1 to make re-seating after a minor separation completely automatic. I suspect a disturbance that displaces the wing further than that will have also had dire consequences for the entire airframe, and that wing separation will be the least of my worries. Or so it would seem, anyways :) Steve RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] Rare earth magnets as wing retention devices?
One more question: anyone tried using large rare earth magnets as wing retention devices on wings with plug-in wing panels? I know that these are routinely used for hatch and canopy hold-downs and similar, just wondering if people have tried them in place of snap-type wing locks or hook band retention systems? [RCSE] Plug-in wing wiring connectors: good, bad, ugly?
I've got a couple of projects coming up with plug-in wings, and I'm wondering if anyone would care to share their thoughts on using automatic connectors to make the connection between the servo wiring in the wing and the servo leads in the fuse. I'm thinking primariliy of the DB-9 and Multiplex -style multipin connectors here. This would be for larger (4m) scale and for a slope aerobatic (Voltij) application. Obviously the downside would be the risk of a bad connection and/or failed connection, but the upside would be convenience. Assuming the connectors are mounted solidly enough, is there really that much of a problem so long as you take reasonable care? Thanks, Steve RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News. [RCSE] New videos / RCGroups withdrawals
Just resubbed to RCSE after a while off. Am going through major RCGroups withdrawals (they're down for maintenance I guess). Anyways, have some new videos from the past couple days that I've just uploaded, and figured I'd share here since I can't in my normal place. All are from in around Santa Barbara, CA. The first is urban thermal SAL flying, the latter two are slope soaring. **Broadband recommended** 1) The Alula by Richter R/C. Filmed outside the home of the kitter. Re: [RCSE] RCGroups withdrawals and signal to noise ratio...
Jay Decker wrote: I agree. However, the signal to noise ratio has slipped significantly last year... which makes me wonder where the next good place to hangout on the net for good content will be? Or, maybe they administrators and moderators will find a way to redirect of the chit-chat... As one of the most prolific posters in the Slope forum, I have to take at least partial responsibility for the rise of noise in that forum. However, in my defense, I also contribute a hell of a lot of signal in the form of videos, photos, flying reports, event summaries, and build threads. I suggest that those complaining about the signal:noise ratio on RCGroups get to work generating some signal. Otherwise it's just more noise. Re: [RCSE] RCGroups withdrawals and signal to noise ratio...
Jay Decker wrote: Steve I appologize if my comment offended you. When people exchange opinions, their views will sometimes clash. It is my opinion that if the signal to noise ratio is not addressed, eventually, some folks will stop reading and contributing, e.g., providing Rodent dimensions to your Open Source Rodent thread. There will be so much chit-chat in the subject forums to comb through it will not be worth their time. No worries Jay, I did not take personal offense in any way--in fact I completely agree with your analysis of the slippage on RCGroups. In all honesty, I'm definitely a big part of the problem with the noise in the Slope forum. It's one of my personal regrets, and I'm trying to address the issue (i.e. stay on topic more with my posts). I do truly appreciate your contribution to my Fauxdent effort--apologies if my message come off in any other way! My response--which could surely have been worded better--was meant more as a general commentary on how to maintain quality in our online resources and definitely not as a personal attack against you. Please accept my apologies if it didn't read that way. I got hit in the head by a plane today and perhaps I'm not in my right--not to mention my RCGroups withdrawal symptoms kicking in (wish I was joking). Anyways, my theory is that these resources will be as good as we make them. I know you do your part, I'm trying to make my contribution more substantial, and I thank everyone else who is doing the same. Hopefully a little self-policing on RCGroups can save the Slope forum, it's a nice place and it would be a shame to see it go completely to pot. My first taste of aerotowing went extremely smoothly thanks to the great efforts of all the tug pilots and especially Ken (didn't get the last name) who was kind enough to really walk me through my first tow. I got towed up a bunch over both days and really had a blast with my tiny 2m Fox. I didn't mind the lack of slope lift; as a longtime surfer I'm quite familiar with the fact that sometimes it's just flat. The camaraderie more than made up it. Hopefully I'll be back next year with a proper size airplane (i.e. one that I can actually *see* once it gets off tow!!) Thanks all, Steve Lange RCSE-List facilities provided by Model Airplane News.
