Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal The default color palette used by gnome-terminal is Tango which maps the black color of ncurses to a dark grey (not black) this makes using ncurse programs (like emacs, aptitude...) much difficult since it reduces contrast. I see the problem is that htdig is not supported and maintained, yet to properly work, khelpcenter should depend on it. I don't think Kubuntu should depend on something unmaintained, but I think it is detrimental to Ubuntu to expose a feature that is non-functionnal. I think the middle ground would be completely disabling the search feature if it cannot work, saying htdig should be installed. Je me permets de contredire Claude : Linux est tout à fait utilisable par des débutants et pas seulement pour relever ses mail... à condition que quelqu'un de compétent s'occupe de configurer les périphériques récalcitrants (et il en reste, malheureusement). Ceci dit, je me souviens d'avoir passé une demi journée à réinstaller un XP et à chasser les pilotes son, carte mère, carte vidéo... I have the same problem using the jaunty jack dated 27 april. I could not set the broadband connection because I can't see the bottom of the screen. Unfortunately, the problem does not affect the dsl wizzard only. I have been looking around the system (i'm a debian user) to get a look and feel, and bumped into several (gnome ?) applications which exhibit the same behavior. I'll get back to you when I have more hard data. I'll start by installing a copy of JJ on a spare partition so I can test it and get acquainted with its utilities. It took me ages to find the network configuration by the way. Why isn't it under internet, simply ? Otherwise great job. Same bug here after upgrading Gutsy to Jaunty. The mouse clicks are disabled and nothing can be clicked. What it's strange is that the scroll button continues to work: I can scroll a page in firefox but cannot click anything. The only way to solve this is to reboot the machine. Hello, Not verified if this is the same bug, but looks very similar. Using Elisa Media Center (OpenGL), I encountered system crashes. Elisa in idle mode or navigating in menus is ok, but when I launch a movie it freezes after a few minutes. When freezed, the computer responds to ping requests but AFAIK I was not able to ssh into it. Of course, no ALT+F1 and no Ctrl-Alt-Delete responding... Freevo with mplayer using xv output is ok. MPlayer with gl/gl2 output is ok too. My xorg.conf is empty (only the self-generated part, no option for the vga device). VGA card is : 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:29c2] (rev 10) Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device [1462:7529] Tonight, I upgraded the intel driver to 2.7 using Stefan Glasenhardt PPA. Thanks for the fix. Got the same problem with a GM945, and this seems to fix it. I've read somewhere in this thread that the new line in /proc/mtrr gets wiped out after a reboot (or X restart?). Do any of you have any advice on how to implement this fix so that it survives reboots? I mean, it's always possible to have it user side, but there might be a better solution. I may have a similar issue, so I'm not opening a new bug. Also, I have only vague info about it. Will search logs next time this happens. I have this code that's doing scp over from a windows + cygwin machine. I have my id_rsa.pub authorized in this remote machine. Sometimes, seemingly randomly after a number of scp, the cpu would max at 100%, with gnome-keyring-daemon being the offender process. There is no real way out. Je te conseille un bon ventilo à base de cuivre, avec ventilo 8cm mini (plutot 12) de type Zalman, Coolermaster ou Asustek, pour ne citer que quelques marques parmi d'autres aussi valables. J'ai le cas récemment avec ce même type de config, et le remplacement par un Silent Knight II d'Asus, et le silence est d'or :) Franck Micro38 J'ai déjà eu ce problème sur un portable ASUS. Je crois que c'est une question de gestion ACPI ou quelque chose du genre... qui n'arrive pas à régler/gérer la vitesse du ventilo donc à ce moment-là il tourne au maximum! Car si j'allais sous windows, tout était ok. Malgré les versions récentes de Ubuntu, cela n'a jamais réglé mon problème et ce portable est aujourd'hui hors production. Sur certaines cartes maitresses ASUS il y a un paramètre dans le bios qui s'appelle je crois Q hum j'ai oublié! Enfin... ça commence par Q me semble. C'est dans la section des vitesses de fan et on peut lui dire de se mettre en silencieux ou de s'ajuster avec la charge. Peut-être cela pourrait t'être utile. Perso c'est sur les fans de boitier que j'aurais toujours voulu un moyen manuel de ralentir ces foutus fans... surtout ceux qui ne sont pas contrôlés et directement branché au power supply. Merci. Effectivement j'ai effectué ce genre de réglages, mais au pif vu que je n'y connais rien et que je capte pas grand chose à l'anglais. Avantage par rapport à un double boot : en un clic hors de la fenêtre émulée, on reprend la main sur le système hôte. il y aura toujours le problème de la télétransmission des FSE et du fonctionnement du lecteur de carte. C'est ce point qui risque d'être rédhibitoire. Par contre, j'utilise Wine dès qu'il y a besoin de l'accélération graphique (jeux) et quand le logiciel veut bien tourner (il y eu des progrès fantastiques cette dernière année mais tout n'est pas parfait). Bonjour, petits soucis pour ouvrir dans firefox des fichiers son.swf, type flash-movie. L'image apparaît et reste muette. J'ai Hardy, réinstallé tout recemment après remplacement de la carte-mère par une toute neuve. Doit s'agir d'une histoire de codecs... [Bug 300172] [NEW] 70pulseaudio is not removed with an apt-get remove pulseaudio
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio pulseaudio0.9.10-2ubuntu9 on intrepid ibex (8.10) An sudo apt-get remove pulseaudio made my X session crash on startup, with an error about /usr/bin/pulse-session not found. It turned out the /etc/X11/Xsession.d still had a 70pulseaudio left in (after the pulseaudio remove). re-installing pulseaudio and then apt-get purge pulseaudio fixed the situation (i.e. 70pulseaudio was indeed removed). So it seems that this file is considered a configuration file in this psckage, which of course it is not. As I experienced, leaving this file in will prevent a normal Xsession start. The pulseaudio package maintainer should move /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio from the config file section to the regular package file section (to be removed following an apt-get remove). Unless I've missed something of course... Other related question: Intrepid comes with pulseaudio installed by default (I understand). Is there any serious consequences to remove pulseaudio altogether? I had issues with (1) skype and (2) sound not working after suspend/hibernate which have been solved by removing pulseaudio. And when you say it won't be fixed for Intrepid, do you mean it won t be fixed in the FINAL release of Ubuntu Intrepid ? If yes, I find it very very annoying. Not for myself because I consider being an advanced computer user (but not already an advanced Lunux user ;) and a developer so bugs do not scare me, but I think about all the newbie who may encounter such a strange behaviour: if it is their first Linux experience, they won t be long before goint back to windows ! With this bug (mouse jumping back to the screen center), the desktop environment is just plain unusable... I confirm this bug on intrepid beta (KUbuntu). But I add that my joystick is not really stable: I mean that the x/y value are constantly changing even when I do not touch it. This is a problem in my joystick. But once in KDE, it made the mouse constantly recenter itself automatically in the center of the screen. So if I want to reach any icon or menu with the mouse pointer, I have to be fast enough before the cursor recenters itself. With today's intrepid upgrade to 2.6.27-6, driver was broken, no wifi available. Reinstallation solved the issue, but I don't think it's normal since the driver is designed to be automatically installed when a new kernel is available ? I reinstalled networkmanager, which does see the wifi AP, but still doesn't connect (WPA, eeepc901). Hmm, I really got the feeling that hardwares don't work in the same way. I use an EEEPC901, and 1.8.0.0 has the same issue than Stephane's package : I see access points, but no connection is achieved, it seems to fail when WPA protocol comes. The Stephane's driver does not work properly with WPA. I looked at /usr/src/rt.../RT2860STA.dat, and I saw that the driver seems to have been compiled for open authentication ? I'm not expert so don' t blame me if I'm wrong. I wanted to recompile it with correct parameters, but I do not know how to do it following the Stephane's .deb way. I've read that the original Ralink driver allows only open OR wep OR wpa (great, isnt'it ?) and that a patched version is ready but not published. Anyone to confirm ? Additionally I wish this bug to be considered as HIGH importance since a lot of new netbooks use this wireless card. Actually, I'm interested to do this. I did not take/have the chance to do this. In short, I want to test it on my Toshiba A100-series laptop. So far, my main issues were around the graphic adapter, this Intel 915. Since I can easily swap hard disks on it, I won't loose anything. I will just kill this test install I did for openSuSE 11, which was not very friendly with my external monitor. A regular KDE application needs to set up a complex runtime environment. Also a look at an strace shows no justification for creating ~/.kde.
