Mine is a 6 inch rod with KB hypereutectic pistone and S/R torque big valve heads that were pocket ported. It snaps when you punch it! This things I learned was to buy the heads complete other than bare castings and get a good machineist. Mine put it together with a nitrided crank and the shortie

Thanks to everyone for the information. I am sure I will have many more questions as I build this engine. I have rebuilt hundreds of engines, but the last time I tried to BUILD an engine was in '82. It seems that things have changed a lot since then (many, many, many more options!) Thanks

Keith, according to tests done by Chevy High Performance, the heads are so efficient that the larger valves do not increase flow enough to warrant the work. I have forgotten which month it was in, but I will look for it. Brian From: KW [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: The Chevelle Mailing List

The cost to cut the seats for the larger valves probably isn't justified. Stock Vortec heads flow pretty well but need the spring seats cut for larger springs to handle lifts over .425. They also feature pressed-in studs and will require a more expensive Vortec-compatible intake manifold.

Hi, I have always heard that big valves really only help over 6000 RPM or so, if this is a street engine and the old valves are still servicable I would stick to them. Spend the money in other areas. A fast responding engine is better on the street. My 383 is running the early 90's vette

I looked hard at a pair of L98 Vette heads for my car. However, they have such small 58cc chambers that keeping the compression under control (and the attendant detonation problems) as well as their angle-plugs sometimes requiring new headers, sent me off in another direction. A good dual plane

Dan, Vortech heads will fit on all SBC blocks. Your exhaust manifold/headers will bolt right up, but you will need a Vortech specific intake manifold, since the bolt pattern is different. Head gaskets are the same. Self aligning rockers are the same as regular rockers, but have shoulders on
