There used to be a key value called 'shared secret' that you had to
configure on the ACE server as well as the 'requesting' device (and
unfortuanately it was plain text). I haven't played with an ACE server
for about 5yrs so that may have changed.

Keith,
Its to do with the order in which the call is handled. The dialer-remote
name is what allows the incomming call to be bound to the dialer. Otherwise
IOS has no way of knowing which dialer the call is for. The call must
authenticate first, then get the remote name from chap, then lookup the

As far as I can see, both scenarios would work, as long as you have an area

would at least have to have area 0 on the ethernet or a loopback on the hub
router.

Hey Group,
I have two 1601r router's with a VPN module in each. I need to configure a
VPN router to router. I've never configured a VPN so I really don't know
where to start. What do I need to do? I have looked through cisco's website.

The TFTP server will use your NIC card address. When you made changes to
your NIC TCP/IP settings, did you restart the tftp server?

This is what I have to work with. I have 2 T1, each going into s0 and s1.
What can I do to enable redundancy? If the T1 in s0 fails , s1 will
automatically kick in and takeover.
Also , what monitoring software do any of you use to monitor your networks.
specifically for network outages?

I can't believe you can clear xlate for all 5000+ users and get away with it. Maybe

My gut reaction is that isn't possible since the show connections is totaling the
current xlate connections the PIX is doing. You can use clear xlate to clear out the
xlate connections but then of course you are knocking people
