Be careful while booting kernel 2.4 and using disk optimisations like /sbin/hdparm -X66 -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 /dev/hda After some nice messages like 'DMA intr lost' and so on, it corrupted badly my filesystem. I think with alpha kernels, a good choice is to be really conservative.
