Interesting thread... and I'm thinking of a new AV receiver
I recently came across xAP for home automation and there is a plug-in

I'd always prefer using the SB3 to the Denon, but occasionally I'd like
to.
In addition if the SC is a DLNA server it would probably be able to
serve not only audio but also pictures to my PS3 for example.

Agreed. I hadn't read 5091, but now that I have, I understand.

b/c you now have the SBC.
the SBC is the tie in, as explained in 5091.
SBC or not, its backwards thinking to think that making the pgm more
useful means less people will buy the hardware. people have a PS3
ANYWAY, or even the denon. this feature would expose them to the SB
world.

If Squeezecenter could control music flow to eg, Denon's range of
Networked Audio devices does this not imply the death of Squeezboxes?
Why have a transporter, squeezebox, duet receiver or boom when you can
stream wirelessly directly to one of these:

I voted for 5091 :-)
It's been filed a long time ago, though.
Hopefully it will get on the new features list soon.

and isn't that crazy?
why should you have to use something else when you already have SC?
SC should support DLNA b/c the SBC is the natural tie in.
join bugzilla, and vote for it, and spread the word. i plan to push
hard for this after 7.3 is out.

Denon uses DLNA for streaming.
I would love if SC would support DLNA and UPNP. I sometimes like to
stream either to my Denon 3808
does the Denon support DLNA?
there's a enh request to get that into SC. i see no good reason for
someone to object to that support.

Yay !
I've proved to myself.
a) The Squeezecontroller is capable of controlling the Denon Receiver
b) I can write it !
I've hacked the Doomsday demo app to mute and un-mute the amplifier
using http commands.
So I can presumably expand from there to full one way functionality.

There's a little program for Windows that can act as a nice interface
and alternative to Denon's Web GUI.

There has not been much development lately though.
It basically communicates via Telnet. Kinda what one would want SC to
do.

I believe someone has worked on getting LIRC ported to the SBC, but it
didn't seem to get too far.
There is an L
The receiver will accept command either by Telnet or by HTTP through
it's network port.
I figured either:
a) I get the SBC to send the commands to the receiver.

enough.
b) I get the SBC to send commands to the Squeezecenter server

With the SBC/SBR this would be hard.
The SBR has no way to interface with the rec
Just got myself a squeezebox controller and this question has occurred
to me again.
How easy is it to get Squeezecenter to control my Denon Reciver using
it's telnet interface ?

First I've got to say this sounds amazingly cool -
controlling both a Squeezebox and a receiver
through SlimServer. And you could have the
receiver connected to the network using the
Squeezebox wireless bridging feature!
While the operation would be through a fairly
simple parser, the GUI wo
Just got myself a Denon AVR-4306, one of it's novel features is a
network connection.
There is a web interface that allows you to control the amp.
My thinking is to investigate the network control protocol, then
somehow to get slimserver to control it.
What do you guys think?
