Some ISPs will allow sending IF you do an authenticated pick-up first, and then do an authenticated send right after that. There is also the extendedSMTP (ESMTP) "way" of using higher numbered ports (with or with-out authentication - YMMV) that will work IF the particular ISP supports that.
