thought here was USB rather than PCI. I think many of the boards have
USB interfaces, and I think there's a non-zero number of USB devices that
require externally-loaded firmware.

Yes, it's gone. A readme redirect is a good idea, but I think there are
some practical IS considerations that get in the way of doing this right

But as long as the goal is to have something that can /run/ on v5 hw (as
opposed to something that runs /optimally/ on v5 hw), Debian fits the bill.
