Also keep in mind that all your addresses will probably change as you move from
virtual addresses to real addresses. And what the Linuxes
I just want to echo putting /boot on its own disk... When everything is
working fine, it doesn't matter a lot. When something breaks, it makes things
easier to work on/with...

One other thought... Consider working with your IBM reseller. The normally
have people that can help you through things like the initial installs. And if
this is intended to be (or become) a real Proof of Concept, they can frequently
help you get a trial for z/VM to show you how much easier
Installing Linux in an LPAR without VM is like installing Linux on a bare
Intel box with no DVD drive and no local disks...

The Upstream server runs on z/OS and manages the tapes etc. The client(s) run
on Linux and send the data to the z/OS server, regardless of if the data to be
backed up is ECKD(3390) or SAN(SCSI)..
