The problem with the macro teleconverters is the additional 1/2-1 stop of light loss, that reduces a f/2.8 lens to f/8 instead of f/5.6 - as do normal 2X teleconverters. I suspect this is due to the additional extension required by the helicoid mechanism. Even if very good, I'd stay away

Ethanol (alcohol) has been used as a lens cleaner for many decades. I know the navy used it to clean periscope optics on submarines during WWII. So I don't think it would be a problem. Chlorine (bleach) may not harm the glass, but it is corrosive as hell and I would not trust it around my photo

Bob, I have a 600mm FA that I regularly use with a 1.4X-L converter. I can't tell from the image whether it was taken with or without the converter. My personal belief is to use the Pentax converters with Pentax lenses. I believe (unsubstantiated) these combos produce the best results. Ken Waller
