Hello Tormod,
are you stil here? Was the debugger output not helpful?
I have been very busy the last months, but I am looking forward for
having some time to take care about s3switch and to disentangle the big
savage patch.
I have not lost track of the bugs, on all my four Savage-equipped

Hello Tormod,
is this the same version as the git source? I'm going to test one, but I
think I will prefer the source as I can try to modify it directly in
case of new experiences.
Maybe I can check tomorrow - I'll post my results from the HP XE3-GC

Hello Rolf,
some of my patches to xorg-savage were recently added by Tormod Volden.
The path direction for s3switch is directly linked to that X server, as
they are interoperating closely (and need to do this, which will be one
of the targets of my work).
On my systems (HP XE3), I am testing
Hello Rolf,
thanks for replying. Well, this piece of software is not of any kind
which must be updated regularly just for updating's sake. It is a real-
mode VGA register accessing tool for a graphics hardware that is about
10 years old, but very common in a lot of laptops built around 2000 to
After some testing I could now start to provide patches for this tool
and make it work with current kernels again - because of modifications
to the vm86 IO macros in the kernel, the lrmi files needed some
updates also.
Are any maintainers listening who could help me integrating the patches
The fix released in Debian is a sad removal there... I would prefer to
keep it alive and do some testing. Currently I am also working on the
savage driver to which this tool corresponds, therefore I can offer to
test it and maybe even add further fixes. The hardware I have available

Hello Tormod,
while looking at the code again, I start getting some evidence that the +7
offset addition really is related to panels with a horizontal hardware
resolution of 1400 pixels. I ran doxygen over some old versions of the savage
driver to dig into the history and possible changes to
Hello Tormod,
thanks for your comments and tests! Are you more deeply involved into
the calculation methods for these savage drivers?
In fact, on my system I had to remove the 7-pixel offset to get the
screen full in width.
I'm sorry, at the moment I don't have a lot of time for doing an

Hello Mike,
thanks, this driver works perfectly and I could upgrade all X components

Hello,
now I resolved the problem myself on source code level. The relevant
parts are two sections in savage_video.c and savage_streams.c, where
scaling factors explicitly for LCD usage are calculated. The problem was
mainly that only the drawing starting point was modified by the scaling
factor,
Resolved this for me finally by using the mainline kernel 2.6.36 - now
power management works perfectly again, except for the console mode
character set... but that sounds resolvable independently :-)

Thanks for your attention, but as I need the machines for some kind of

Resolved now by using the mainline kernel 2.6.36! All power functions
work great, no matter what kind of LAN/WLAN/GSM card is plugged in.
Additionally the maverick kernel seems to have a PCMCIA hot-plug problem
which caused a segmentation fault and the need to reboot after pulling a
PCMCIA card -
Exactly this is what I can confirm, and NONE of the maverick kernels
works yet, not even the most recent from maverick-proposed.
