My Mac Pro, 10.6.2, has 3 hard disks, and I have XP Pro on both a Boot Camp
partition on one of the hard disks (not the startup disk) and Parallels on
another disk. There was no problem setting up the Boot Camp partition on the
non-startup disk.

Yes Gav,
Windows requires its own partition on your computer's internal startup disk.
Boot Camp Assistant creates a second partition on your startup disk …

Hi Adrian,
I agree with using a virtual machine. I've been using Parallels from version 3,
4 & now 5.
I have had WindowsXP Pro, Windows Vista Ultimate (what a CPU user was Vista), &
now Windows 7 Ultimate installed in Parallels 5.
My Windows 7 virtual machine is 11.02GB. The "Expanding Disk" r
Hi Adrian,
I haven't tried it but I believe installing boot camp to an external drive is a
painful process.
If you're doing that, I'd recommend a virtual machine and keeping it on the
virtual drive if space is an issue.

My 2c,
I can attest to the replacement of powerboards by Belkin, very obliging, after

Thanks Gavin,
I dont want to sacrifice that much space so I will look at using a small

As Gavin said I think you are better off using a virtual machine :)

If you want to buy Parallels there is a good deal on at the moment at

Hi Adrian,
20 gigs would be heaps if you were just going to install 7, your software and

You'd probably end up taking around 10 gigs for Windows 7.
Personally, I'd put more if you can afford it - resizing the bootcamp partition

My thinking behind this is that they are protecting themselves against those
cheap-and-nasty extension cords you get for 99c at your local supermarket.
Cheap cables use less pure/thinner wires to save on cost. This causes them to
heat up when put under load. This is a bad th

Sorry, when I referred to the differences between 10.3 & 10.6, I meant the

Hi Tim
Short answer,..quite important I personally feel.
If you don't unplug the phone line and you get a surge on it then "bad
things can happen".
Worst case scenario is if the surge/lightning strike goes through the phone
line and doesn't blow out the router/modem then it can carry along the

It did happen to some people using Aperture when they updated to Snow Leopard.
The only fix then seemed to be restoring
