Fixer and I went to see Richie John do the Plus 8 Classics tour thing
at Giant in LA last night.

Me too.

(and a Join In The
Chant remix encore! Long time no hear)

done with all the house lights on.. which was bizarre all by itself.

Earlier John dropped a Dead Or Alive/You Spin Me 'Round mix and the
place went f'ing crazy. Then Rich stepped up and.. you could tell a
lot of the people didn't know what was going on, but they all loved
it anyway. I think the second track he played knocked over every
drink in the building. Relentless for about 2.5 hours. Wonderful.
No 909 use though..

Mirwais used to play in a french band (i think it was a duo) called 'Taxi

few months ago.

i heard some tracks from the album in finnish radio mafia, and they
weren't anything special. of course, i won't say that the album is bad
'cause i haven't heard all the songs, but, the hit single music or
what was it called, was only track that i found interesting. although
the music chant sounds like dj pierre's music set you free from
around 1994 on tribal america.

btw, dj pierre used the same kinda chant in one x-press 2 remix around
1993. first time i heard madonna track i thought that it was a sample
from dj pierre.. :)

Pretty cool set, good crunchy beats, several tracks off the new album. Nice
guy too. Plone DJed before I arrived, but I heard he was kicked off the
decks for playing a set composed of all novelty records! People were leaving

well, in addition to that she said on the recent album for one of the tracks
she had to sing stone cold-no filters no nothing. and that she was just
terrified b/c she hadn't done that in so long. there's a reason, honey.

I listened to the album a week or two ago via mp3crackhouse and wasn't
impressed. i was actually bored.Like the previous album, which I thought was
better than this one, its a producer's album with her voice over it.she kept
boasting how this was her funky side. I like the enlightened side better.
At least with the previous album, with out her vocals it would have been
even better. with this one, its nada either way on most of the tracks.IMHO

Personally, I like her older stuff better. Its a guilty pleasure right up
there with Neil Diamond. And yes, Ive seen both in concert.

2000-09-25 Thread Todd Gys
Hello everyone!

I've seriously been trying to join this list for about 4 years but something
always seemed to screw up with my mail server; problem finally solved!

Anyway, my name is Todd Gys. I've been dj'ing deep detroit/berlin minimal
techno for about 6 years now. I'm a big fan of the chain reaction, main
street, maurizio, and basic channel sound, but am also into the more minimal
stuff like the Studio 1 releases, profan, etc. I'm sure I'll meet some
great people here into the same music.

I recently moved to Boston, MA from Columbus, OH.  Quite different out here;
haven't been able to find many people into the same sound I am. If you're
from the Boston area, I'd love to get in touch and talk music!

Within the last 3 years, I've started to make some of my own tracks. These
days I finally have a fully functional studio up and running and I've been
doing my best to churn out tracks. I'm involved in a few ambient projects
right now, but have a few crunchy minimal tunes on cue to be released.

Anyway, thought I'd drop a line and introduce myself. Anyone out there I
know already?

Just trying to help a friend - any tips/suggestions would be greatly

I second Gwendal's sentiment.

I just finished listening to Music and the hex hector remix of that track.
Could someone tell me what the big deal is? Seems to me that any modern pop
artist can throw some electronica in the mix to update their sound.
What I don't understand is how people who listen to much of the more purist
electronic music being released today can feign interest in such a
superficial gesture.

Jeff Mills mix

2000-09-25 Thread Revaron
I'm trying to find a website that I used to have a bookmark for, but I've
lost it for some reason. Its the one that has hundreds of DJ mixes of mostly
old House stuff, mostly Chicago, but the one in particular that I am after is
a Jeff Mills mix, about half an hour long, taken from a radio station in
Detroit in 89 or so. The mixing is absolutely mental, almost unbelievable,
and the tunes are quite varied, hip hop, house, all sorts.

I am pretty sure I got the link from this list in the first place, so if
anyone knows what I'm on about, please get back to me.

2000-09-25 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Hmmm. I like it as I liked Sandwiches, reminds me of that.

Don't tempt me to get into an ideological debate on why I think Madonna is a
musical innovator. I think you're too harsh on Madonna myself and take away
from her own input (she is a female and what do they know about production,
tsk, tsk?), but it's all good. It would been much easier for her to have got
in Diane Warren and cut some nice MOR slush on half of the LP and then gone
all 'urban' on the other with Rodney Jerkins and She'kspere producing it,
dontcha think? Every rapper would be jumpin to lace up her tracks - Lil'
Kim, Eve, Method Man, anyone.

Hex Hector, yes that is sad but he is house music to corporate USA - ever
the more so since he did his thing to Deb Cox's hits. Luckily they have
discovered the amazing Mr Ron Trent for mixes by Amel Larrieux (ace!) and
Anastacia (better than the original which I didn't like anyway).

I second Gwendal's sentiment.
