If I'm not mistaken, Stewart probably wants us to
email the contest answers privately, so as not to
spoil the contest. I don't think the soundbites are
too obscure. I like that the bites are older. It's the
only way I would stand a chance...

Still need to peruse the content, but from the looks
of Stewart's first message, I think he wants that in
private too.

Re: [313] site feedback required

2001-03-20 Thread Kevin Conrad
I just browsed through the sight, and it's pretty
nice. A little lacking in content, but being so new
it's to be expected. The interviews are well done
IMHO. It would look nicer to have them all listed in
a pull-down menu under the heading "Interviews", with
the interview of the month listed on the front page
right next to the menu. The soundbytes contest is
tough, I recognize everything but have no clue as to
the answers, I guess I'm just not old-skool enough ;)
I would like to know #4 eventually.
My one other critique - I'd like to see a different
background color. Maybe it's just my old monitor, but
it's a greenish-yellow, not the nicest of colors.
Hope this helps.

p.s. lookin' forward to the Dan Bell interview

my time at home...

2001-03-20 Thread FC3 Richards
I made it home for the first time in over a year and i took full advantage
of being within an hour of detroit. flint doesn't really have any action
and all i was looking to do was relax, but my 2 saturday nights in Detroit
were absolutely amazing. The first night i went down to Record Time to see
Kevin Saunderson do a nice hour set and then got him to sign a flier for his
new E-Dancer CD for me. His set was a good warm up for the night to come.
quite enjoyable and the good news came that he may be at the Cochella
Festival in Cali. Something i am going to goto anyways. Then I went to
motor. I decided not to indulge in the alcohol for the night since i was
the designated driver. Kevin and D-Wynn spun a tight energy filled house
set. I really can't give any highlights since the whole night was. It was
something that everyone should have seen, nothing can capture the energy
that was in the room. I have never had that much fun at a club or party
before. It just goes to show that the mixing doesn't have to be perfect if
the energy is there.
My second saturday night was also spent down at Motor. John Aquaviva was
showing off his perfect mixing skills and also used that final scratch
thing. I was quite interested to see how well the thing would work in
person, and i have to admit that it wasn't bad. he didn't use it very much
so it wasn't like he was relying on it. His show was also awsome...the only
thing i wasn't digging was the electro-ish stuff. other then that it was
awsome.
then there is the fact that i bought $250 in records. i had to ship them
home because i couldn't put them in my record bag. i got all kinds of good
stuff and when i get more time i will review them and brag. i gotta go.
JEFF!

speaking of cim ...

His 2 remixes of John Tejada's "Genetical Love" on Defocus are
sublime. Really well produced and as usual perfect detail to
every sound. Every mix on that 12 is good actually, the 2 Skye
mixes as well. That label is really focusing in on quality
techno. (harrr!)

there any artists or features people would like to see?
All feedback to me privatley will be most appreciated

Sounds pretty close to a track by Al Ferox on Kobayashi called Shaved woman
from outerspace. It's on a compilation of Kobayashi artists worth checking

Hi,

I heard this track a couple of times.. the record label on the vinyl is
black or very dark.. one DJ even shouted the name to me, but I really
couldn't hear anything over the massive volume.

Anyhow, the track got a really, really deep bass. There's a big break,
in which only this really dark and deep continuous bass is left. I bet
most of you know it, so I took the time and fopped up a short sample
of what I remember (this bass in the break). Granted, it's as accurate as
I remember it.

The sample is at:
http://crisk.webjump.com/id.mp3 (around 100k, nothing big)

So.. please, let me know if you recognize this track.. I'm sure you would.

Thanks,

Yes this DHJ on Archive is sweet. I am also loving this
Dutch/Detroit/W.London synergy that is happening on labels like
Delsin, Music for Speakers, the Rushhour crew, etc. The Delsin
CD comp 'going thru life' is stellar, quality from start to
finish. There's soulful electronics and broken beat
experimentations, the Aardvarck material is really doing it for
me at the moment, very different. Peel Seamus turns in more moody
and deep techno, reminds of the Black Dog mood.

Also good to see Ross154 with some new material, reminds me of
the good old days of EevoLute. The Future Beat Alliance cut is
very Detroity. Unfortunately the cim track on there is pure
shite. JUST KIDDING it's great, reminds me of Detroit Escalator
Co., moody and string stabs but nice quick tempo.

Keep up the good work Delsin!

brakes seem gone? lots of delsin goodies coming up.. .

16dsr/otn1 - optic nerve - 'pharohs doorway ep' - 12"
- three soultechno tracks by keith tucker

6dsr/rmx1 - aardvarck - 're-spoken' - 12"

17dsr/drt1 - deepart - 'snapshots' - 12"
- debut ep, from mr deepart from london, abstract beats and strings

18dsr/scn1 - sandor caron - 'zwepg typis remixes' - 12"
- rmxs by kirk degiorgio and relaxo abstracto (aardvarck&david caron)

19dsr/str1 - strand - t.b.a. - 12"
- freestlye detroit techno jams, follow-up to the frictional release

20dsr/1541 - 154 - t.b.a. - 12"
- deep ambi-techno cuts from former eevolute/100%pure artist

21dsr/1542 - 154 - 'strike' - cd/lp
- long awaited album, into deep warm ambisoultechno

22dsr/aar3 - aardvarck - t.b.a. - 12"
- incl. remix by tony attica blues

23dsr/aar4 - aardvarck - 'find the cow' - cd/lp
- debut album fully filled with beat craziness

.. . .

furthermore ..
albums by future beat alliance & lucky&easy
12"es by norken, hal varian, cim, plasm nesonic, lucky&easy, ..

and more???
probably

watch out for the new tommyboy/emoticon label (with twelves by russ

the (upgeared) rushhour label (twelves by matt maverick, deepart, recloose,
metamatics, titonton, m>o>s, jon slocum, ..)

musicforspeakers (with twelves by david caron, relaxo abstracto and a

DEMF help document

2001-03-20 Thread Mike Taylor

Hello,

Diana Potts mentioned setting up some kind of contact system for list people
coming into Detroit for DEMF. It occured to me that people might get alot of
use out of some kind of 313 demf weekend FAQ. Something that will give them
useful telephone numbers, restaurant recommendations, event guides, gettting
around in Detroit tips...ect. 10 or 15 pages of dense detroit info for a
tourist.

If anyone in Detroit isinteresting in colaborating on a document for these
people or hosting this document on their website get ahold of me. Please use
my home email account: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Take care,
Mike

DEMF gathering

2001-03-20 Thread diana potts

Something I posted to the IDM list (so pardon the
format), but it's just a thought...

Last year some members from 313 gathered at Fishbones
one night and Blue Nile the next for dinner. It gave
people a chance to meet face to face and chat. We had
some locals that acted as a "bass contact" of sorts so
out of towners could call them for local help and see
what was going on for meet ups.

A lot of people on IDM overlap with those on 313,
Analogue Heaven etc. it might be wise to organize (I'm
not volunteering myself here) something in
the vein that 313 did last year with an overlap of
some of the lists. There's going to be a lot more
people this year, and last year it was
something that kind of came together at last minute.

If we could get a head count-of people from JUST IDM
(if you are on 313 too maybe include that info) who
are planning on coming in that weekend (no maybes-just
definite) and interested in a gathering of some sort
and what night would be best (like perhaps Thursday or
Friday night before the hoopla begins).

just some suggestions.

2001-03-20 Thread Jason
hi there

think this was covered awhile back, unfortunately I can't find it in the
archives. (if anybody can point me to the right place please do!)

Found a man with an unbelievable electro collection and he's quite willing
to copy anything I want onto cdr, but I don't know my arse from my elbow
when it comes to electro.

So I'm looking for suggestions for must have electro, never heard anything
by Egyptian Lover but always see it name checked (also Jeff Mills played at
his recent detroit gig), so keen to know their must have tracks. Plus any
other electro which is 'essential'.

If you want to email me back privately then please do!

What about that double pack of Femi Kuti remixes that came out awhile

... you always have the option of buying breaks records -- one notable one
that comes to mind is Apache Rock on the 303 label... its definitely bongo

I got that too [on vinyl and CD] but this is not what I'm referring
to. This was a track I found on napster.

The file is called "Disco Circus 1983 II - Giorgio Moroder Medley"

Its really worth checking out... like an electro/disco mix. Its totally
ahead of its time [then again most of his stuff back then was... along with
the Telex dudes, Liasons Dangeruse, etc. etc.]

Your thoughts?

Anyone else heard this?

I am trying to find some information about a Giorgio Moroder record called
"Disco Circus" that is like a nonstop megamix of Moroders phat
electro-disco tracks. I can't find any information about it on gemm,

When: 03.21.01 2359-0200
Host: DJ Revolver (steven roy)
This week's feature: tommy smalls (Toronto)

The underground radio series that profiles young, next generation techno,
house, and experimental techno DJs and producers from Windsor, Detroit, and
Toronto continues as I profile a powerful and skillful DJ from Toronto,
Canada - Tommy Smalls.

The Digits - 411:
tommy smalls gets his inspiration from techno legends Richie Hawtin, Rob
Hood, Laurent Garnier, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Christian Bloch, Carl Craig,
Stacey Pullen, and the mighty Twonz. Locally (Toronto), maximum props go to
Vortex, Adam Winick, Kenny Glasgow, Greg Gow, Adam Marshall, and Algorithm
for laying down the techno foundation in Toronto.

tommy smalls has been DJing since 1997. Recent projects include a weekly
internet broadcast entitled "tektonik". This show started in the fall of
1999 and has featured a variety of braodcasts focussing on techno, and
featuring other local artists. tommy smalls was a rotating resident at deep
red in the fall of 2000, and has performed at a number of one-off events
including the recent "locolized" in December 2000, a farewell party for
local techno guru "Harmonika" and Saturn 1 Year Anniversary which involved
Windsor next generationers DM and Ian Hind.

Mixes Released:
Europa (summer 1999)
Foundation (summer 2000)
Infinitesimals (winter 2000)

RE: [313] Track ID, please, anyone?

sorry haven't got that far yet but what amazes me about this set is how
people from different countries have completely different takes on cool 80's
tracks eg the purpose maker vs spin me round thing wouldn't really work in
oz and now john aquaviva has played talking heads "as the days go by"
(approx 21mins in) would this go down well with most 313ers as i can only
speak for myself in that all i can think of is the dgen/late show comedy
show on abc and them paying out David Boon (aussie cricketer with a huge mo,
probably more famous for drinking 52 cans of beer on a flight to the UK)

yet all that said some 80's tracks that i really like would have me copping
a lot of sh*t whilst i'd argue that it fitted right in

thoughts??
