www.514productions.com is the site you are looking for. It's
the promoter's main site with info on all there past and future
parties. Swirl looks excellent for the most part... Laurent
Garnier, Hawtin, Frankie Bones, Sneak, and a bunch of amazing
 pre and post parties.

 VA

That was what I heard... I got there kinda late and Pete from
 Hardwax was
DJing. Place was MT when I arrived.

BTW, does anyone know of a website that has any information
 about the Swirl
party in Montreal that Richie is playing on May 20th? The
 searches I've tried
 are coming up nil.

 Thanks,

Re: [313] Berlin Record Stores

2001-05-15 Thread becky w.
You might want to check out Hardwax, Tresor records, and a couple of
others... Go here, http://music.hyperreal.org/rotator/germany.htm and make
sure that Berlin is in the address. There are stores in Muenchen, Koeln
and Dortmund listed as well, so be sure that Berlin is in the address...
If you're looking specifically for techno as a genre, Hardwax is your best
bet.

If you're ever in Bremen, I have a list of GOOD stores there... ;)

Re: [313] Is there any 313 inspired Club Nights in Singapore?

2001-05-15 Thread Aural Industries

Hi Mike,

Hi John,

good to see you've joined 313. The first Thug record was great, is there
anything coming down the pipe these days?

Take care, Mike

Thanks for the vote of confidence in Tim's work and my label. :) I have been
traveling around China and Singapore for the last 5 weeks but the day before
I left I picked up 500 cd's of the next release on my label Fourier
Transformations by Sense. This CD is amazing (I would say that after all
but this one I am really proud to release on my label). Though don't take me
word go read:
http://www.igloomag.com/document.php?task=viewid=154category=profiles

In fact Lee Norris of Metamatics/Neo Ouija fame liked some track from it so
much he's licensed them to an upcoming release by Sense on his Neo Ouija
Label.

The day I picked them up I sent some to skimo... I am unsure if he has any
left but try him and if not it'll get a proper release in a couple of weeks
time when I get back.

Cheers,

John

Don't know if that message was meant to be private, cause I haven't been
following the thread, but it's funny you mention Sense, as Mike and I are
old friends of his. Once in a while for the 6-7 years I've been on the
list, people have batted around Adam Raisbeck's name as someone to look
out for, but I think with these upcoming releases, he'll finally get the
credit he deserves. Sense makes music that has really tapped how gorgeous
electronic music can be.

Yeah. He did. And the trance mix is the best one.

Moby also did a nice Pet Shop Boys mix once upon a time, and Deep Dish, and
Bassment Jaxx. Strangely, I think you might be able to argue that for each
of those three, it was their last really inspired work. I haven't really
confirmed by looking over the disographies, but the timeline fits pretty
closely. Curious, eh?

But most importantly and back to 313, Mark Kinchen's Can You Forgive Her
remix is brilliant. If it wasn't for the vocal you would've thought it was
on KMS.

You gotta love the irony of all of this today. It's too fitting of the Pet
Shop Boys.

[313] Ken Collier, Ron Hardy discographies

2001-05-15 Thread Jonny McIntosh
I think that could be the only credit, and it's strictly speaking a mix job,
if I remember correctly, rather than any out and out remix. Ready to be
corrected here, though :)

Ron Hardy, obviously, was involved in tons of projects, as producer, edits
etc. Is there any track by the name of Hand Of God or something in which
he was involved? Rumour had it that it was a track on a Derrick Carter mix,
but I've never had it substantiated, and am none too sure it's reliable
information.

Re: [313] Is there any 313 inspired Club Nights in Singapore?

2001-05-15 Thread Mike Taylor

Definitely.

I think people are sleeping on a lot of the electronic music coming from the
east these days. AI and Involve have both put out some great music that is
largely ignored in Detroit. Involve has a busy release schedule this fall,
look for new vinyl by Losoul(of playhouse fame,) Signer, ISOL and Jet
Jaguar. They played a lot of the stuff that will be coming out, it is tight.

The fact that their gig was virtually ignored is nearly criminal because
those guys could go head to head with theorem or stewart walker any day of
the week.

anyway, buy their records.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in Tim's work and my label. :) I have
been
traveling around China and Singapore for the last 5 weeks but the day
before

I left I picked up 500 cd's of the next release on my label Fourier
Transformations by Sense. This CD is amazing (I would say that after
all
but this one I am really proud to release on my label). Though don't

2001-05-15 Thread M. Todd Smith
Start unsubbing from everything, never enter your proper email address for
anything (either that or start a hotmail junk account so that the scripts
can actually process your email address, make sure you look at the hotmail
account once every couple of weeks otherwise it will be deleted.) If you
fill out a survey don't enter your address or anythign else that can somehow
link it back to you (remember if they have your name and address chances are
they can find your email addy too.) Sending copies to domain admins usually
elicits no response or annoyance, they made it so you could unsub for a
reason, don't bug them with that stuff.

Hope all this helps

are a new organization asking for the support of
 music makers and lovers.
This support encompasses school music programs to

Since the invention of the media, the law has
 blamed genres of music for
drug abuse. Look simply to the reefer madness of the
 1920s jazz era, the
psychedelia (and psychedelics) of the`60s, and the
 ecstacy of the `90s and
beyond, and it is plain to see that this cannot
 continue.
In middle schools and high schools across the
 nation, new sports
equipment is purchased every year, while the band
 must remain content with
twenty-year-old instruments. The evidence is clear
 that music is beneficial
to young minds, but in our competition-crazed
society the band kids are on
the bottom of the priority list.
Right now, all over the country, local
 governments are passing

2001-05-15 Thread Dan Sicko
Here's my two cents as an elitist writer ... not that posting to
313 (i.e. preaching to the choir) will make a difference.

I can't say I'm surprised at the Craig/Marvin situation. It was bound
to happen sooner or later. Do you all remember when Chicago had so
much more drama than Detroit? Welcome to the big leagues, folks.

I *am* a bit surprised and quite a bit disgusted at Ms. Marvin's
timing. Of course I understand that there were probably some very
specific reasons why she did what she did *when* she did.

Whatever the reasons, I seriously doubt the festival will find
someone with the same kind of ear and AR instincts as Carl. Yes,
there are several people right here in town that would be good, but
given that from here on out we'll have creative input by committee, I
don't think we'll ever get to find out.

Creativity by committee may be good for business, but it won't make
for a great festival.

I'll be there this year, but next year doesn't look promising.

[313] Paxahau on Carol Marvin

2001-05-15 Thread atomly
This is a forward of a message that was sent to the paxahau list.

--- forwarded message ---

Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
From: paxahau.com [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Paxahau [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: DEMF update
Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 11:31:05 -0400

greetings all who get this.

paxahau has been put in a tough position the last couple weeks for a few
very strong reasons. after carefully measuring out our options with friends
and strategic partners, we regret to announce that paxahau.com will not be
sponsoring a booth at this years DEMF. this comes as a big upset to us and
our feature dj's, but the controversy surrounding this event have quite
simply taken the faith and good feeling out of participating in such an
event. two of the bigger reasons were: 1) we could not credit or
discredit rumors that a dj booth was not going to be allowed after we wrote
a check and 2) even if sound systems were allowed, we know that over 12
booths on the same sidewalk have requested sound and that would put us right
in the middle of cheesefest nightmare with our sound bleeding into a bunch
of other crap, taking away from any sort of attention the dj's would
deserve.

i am sure whoever is receiving this is also aware of the recent request of
carol marvin (pop culture media) asking carl craig to step down as festival
director. what people may not know is the fact that the grounds for this
were completely misinterpreted by carol's friend at the newspaper.
schedules, as she blamed him for not meeting, didn't seem to be a part of
her world last year when she didn't pay any of her bills on time, so ?.
the truth is this is nothing more than old fashion greed for power now that
she has gotten what she wants (exaggerated press), nothing more. under
usual circumstances we would not mention or get in the middle of anything,
but what she has done is removed the very essence that brought us here in
the first place. carol marvin doesn't know the first thing about this
culture or this music, she is just seeing an opportunity to profit from it.
from a business prospective these are understandable tactics if you want to
be shady and such, but this is Detroit, and this is electronic music. a
group has worked hard for so many years to build this up only to have it
snagged by some broken down nobody with media sympathy smiling all the way
to the bank. now the festival has no real roots involved, meaning it will
grow in some twisted and altered media crazed commercial direction.
although this may have happened and perhaps does happen to every genre of
music culture in history, from a purely objective point of view, Detroit
inner circle is in a sad spot right now. whether or not anything can be
done remains to be seen, but we are completely supporting carl and whatever
he may decide to do. we urge you to direct letters of concern to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] , and forward to anyone you think may want to be heard.

thanks

archiving Detroit's electronic music activity.

Thats true, I forgot about that, I never bought the vinyl pack. I found the
little 7inch last summer, and it was a fresh delivery to the ol' record
store, so thats where I assumed the release date.

it's a good tune. how can you complain?(lol)

It's OK for a track. I don't know, Hardfloor is cool, but I never got into
them as much as everyone else. They can rock a 303, sure. But I always
felt as if their productions were somehow hollow, like there was no body

[313] DERRICK MAY . DAVE ANGEL . ST JOSEPH, MO . JULY 28

2001-05-15 Thread Danny Ward

 Spirit Productions

The Lazarus Project . Saint Joseph, Missouri . July 28, 2001

 http://www.thelazarusproject.com

Stressing quality over quantity, Spirit has waited exactly two years to put
together the second installment of The Lazarus Project. Two years ago, the
first event of its kind and the largest dance party to ever hit the
central-states region, The Lazarus Project has since remained a beacon that
many refer to as one of the best shows they have ever attended.

This year's party will feature extended length sets from some of the most
influential and prominent figures in the dance music industry.
Internationally renowned for their production work as well as DJ skills,
these artists are making their FIRST APPEARENCES EVER IN THE
CENTRAL-STATES REGION and will be the cornerstone for what will be a truly
memorable evening.

 D E R R I C K M A Y
Detroit, USA . Transmat Records . www.transmat.com . EXTENDED LENGTH SET

Simply put, Derrick May is one of the most important figures in the history
of dance music. One of techno's founding fathers, he has changed the way
electronic music is interpreted and exposed its possibilities. His
reputation as one of the finest and most sought after DJs has kept his
schedule full for the past decade. Owner of the legendary Detroit based
record label Transmat, he has continually helped shape the face of new
music. His appearance is a FIRST for our region and we are honored to
present him to you.

D A V E A N G E L
London, England . Rotation Records . EXTENDED LENGTH SET

Since his debut release in 1989 hit 23 on the UK charts, Dave Angel has been
at the forefront of the dance music scene. On any given night his own
creations and remixes are played regularly by a multitude of DJs around the
globe. As a producer, his stylistic fusion of jazz and techno defies any
single genre classification. As a DJ, he has won acclaim for his
pitched-up, energetic sets. We are very proud to host his FIRST visit ever
to the central-states region.

K E N N Y G L A S G O W
Toronto, Canada . MWE / Nation / Camouflage . EXTENDED LENGTH SET

One of the finest DJs to come from Canada in recent years, Kenny Glasgow is
a name to know in the dance community. His mixes consist of an intelligent
blend of house and techno and he always lays down enough funk to keep the
dance floor moving. He holds weekly residencies at multiple clubs and
consistently plays alongside the biggest names in the industry. Once again,
a FIRST for the central-states region, we are pleased to present his debut
appearance.
