2001-11-09 Thread Maarten Baute
Hi people,

Does anyone know more about the earth people aka pal joey ?
I searched for it on the internet, but all I found was a jazz artist from
around the 50´s with the same name..

Where to find a disco- and biography?

thank u very much!

2001-11-09 Thread Rob Theakston
well, he might not have released as much but..

in between touring, setting that little festival in Detroit that was taken
away from him, doing the live performance at Cranbrook, working on his next
album, throwing the planet e 10th anniversary party, working on remixes,
helping out other artists with their records and being a new father (which
is the best accomplishment of them all), i'd say he's had a pretty damn good
year. busier than most people.

have a good weekend everyone.

Metro Area can do no wrong. Simple as that.
Derek Plaslaiko played Metro Area's 3 and 4 last night, along with
Morgan's
last EP. and i know he's not the only doing that either. i've said it
before
and i'll say it again (and i'm not being paid for this either):
environ has
been one of the few labels this year that have been releasing amazing
dance
music with consistency, and it's about damn time more people take
notice!

MA4 rocks. pick it up.

Well a because around this time last year. I got my turntables, and
my UR bag filled with records (yeah i know it was packed to tight!)
stolen, when my friend's apt here in pgh was robbed. so while i was
able to repalce minimal nation, and movable parts. I'm still need to
replace floorplan-come on/burner. and i've tried ordering it from
sonic, planetx, recordtime, hardwax, bent crayon , play de , etc with
no luck. Hence the wish for a repress.

why? having seen all essential hood releases repressed - internal

minimal nation, moveable parts, nighttime world - what else do you

[313] Metro Area 4

2001-11-09 Thread Kent williams
I knew Metro Area was great -- their live set at the 7th City party was
mindblowingly lovely -- but I was a bit unprepared for the Metro Area 4
record -- this is straight up disco! Which is not a criticism -- some of
my favorite records are the neglected late-period disco tracks. Morgan and
Darshan seems to be channelling Patrice Rushen and Chic on this one ...

Check out "Let's Get..." -- I'm not sure if it's intentional but you could
play this with Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" and they'd be like peanut butter
and jelly ... or pickled ginger and wasabi ...

i think most of us are vinyl junkies at heart and repress or not, you just
gotta get the tunes! it still freaks me out to see how much some people will
pay for for records though

but at the same time, there is certainly something special about finding an
original press of that record you've been hunting down for years...

speaking of represses, when are we going to see some represses of the old Buzz
releases? and a bit on the non-313 tip...GPR because i just realised someone
taxed my copy of the Black Dogs Temple of Transparant Balls :(

cheers... Dang

RE: [313] Landstrum repress

2001-11-09 Thread Grammenos, Peter

A friend of mine has a copy of a nuyorican album w/ tito puente on it and as
you all know he passed away a few months ago and it's now worth somewhere
between 500-1000 american smack-a-roon-eese. The only way I can relate to
that is through my comic book collection... A copy of X-men and Spidey #1's.

As for music I'm happy just to have a copy, un-mixed and available for me to
play. No worries about where it came from, how much it's worth, or when it
was pressed. My copy will sounds just as good as yours ;)

i just like loud music...i have alot of represses, but i also have alot of
orignals. I got the Neil Landstrumm before i knew it was repressed.
otherwise i never would have paid $25 for it. it is really good though and
i will probably buy a copy of the repress so i don't have to use the
Peacefrog release. I just bought Accelerate #1 (Dan Bells label) for $4.00
out of the used bins. i guess that goes for a hearty amount of money on
e-bay. I also have 3 copies of DJAX #135, the Edge of Motion record. one
is on clear vinyl, and the other 2 are bootlegs. the clear one sits at home
as i play double copies of the bootlegs. eh, well...I guess i just
contridicted. the novelty of having an orignal always makes me happy
too...so what really does do it for me??? i dunno

as confused as ever

Check it out.

A friend of mine has a new site http://prolectric.com

There's a few mixes of varying genres on it including 2 electro sets.
1 from myself, and another from Cryogenetic (Twilight 76).

Re: [313] Hearing Loss

2001-11-09 Thread Dennis DeSantis
> Anyone have any experience with these custom fitted ear plugs?

I have a pair.

Basically, you make an appointment to get silicone goo poured into your
ears. This hardens into a mold which is then extracted and sent to a lab
for fitting. So each pair is custom-fitted to the owner.
The molding process isn't painful but it's a bit uncomfortable.
My pair has a removable filter which can be swapped with others with a
different dB reduction rating. I think my filters are 15 dB - maybe 20.
Either way, I've never needed to get anything better and I've heard some
LOUD stuff with those in.
I wouldn't say they're completely transparent, but they're much much better
than the foam ones you can buy at drug stores. The attenuation is pretty
flat across the frequency spectrum.
They're a bit pricey but well worth it. My pair cost about $120.

My $.02,

i guess there are different kinds of collectors --i collect vinyl with the
intent of playing it on the loudest sound system i can get my hands on and
making people dance with an intensity than they've never danced with before. the
people on the dancefloor don't seem to give a hoot whether the tracks i play are
on the original pressing or a re-issue. hell, some people have even climbed into
the dj booth and tried to hug me after i've played a bootleg.
i guess some people are into it for the music, while others are into for the
piece of paper on the record.

I know it's hard to believe in today's exciting digital media world, but
some people actually collect vinyl.

In this case, a reissue makes the original even more valuable.

And yes, Index Man (the track) is perhaps his most famed and nuanced
dancefloor track.
