It's a double EP pack. One EP is credited to James Pennington and the other

magda's set on final scratch was way cool. they better get crackin on a mac

tom banged it out so hard he brought the lights down twice
joe set was pretty bumpin. it was way late and I was dead tired (he is so

Thanks to all those for the support last night 1 hour north of the D.
Lansing witnessed a revival of techno it well needed with the stylings of
magda and tom newman (acidpimp). Again detroit bleeds further into
michigan.

Magda threw down and entire set with final scratch. Flame as you want but
after witnessing this final scratch set (no records, well maybe 1 or 2) I
can see the possibilities of the digital revolution on our culture. Amazing
minimal factory beats with precision.

Thanks to troy for the great time and be prepared for a follow up by
minimalistik to keep the techno alive just north of detroit.

I went to this.. not many people there... which was dissapointing... this club
has excellent sound and set up for techno events. He played a very smooth
technical set.. not one mess up. He played quite a mix of techno, electro,
influencial german stuff, and some of the stuff i didn't really care for - kind
of cheesy acid stuff. in any case it was a good set, he's one of my favorite
skilled djs by far.

[313] playlist WNUR Chicago - 1 Feb. 2002

2002-02-25 Thread Matthew MacQueen
Hello 313,
It's been a while (and a couple of DEMFs?) since I've posted. I hope I finally
have some value to add again. I've been given a great gift from a friend Dr.
Siska who is generous enough to split his Friday night radio show with me,
we'll rotate every other week. The show is called Clinically Inclined.

Those of you who are lucky enough to have had "open format" non-commercial
radio shows will appreciate the creative outlet for musical expression that
seems so well-suited to electronic music. What follows is a post and playlist
from earlier this month that never made it to the list. I hope you will see
(and hear) how Detroit techno is both a foundation and inspiration for the
program.

I'll post my own set list in a sec... as they say "stay tuned".

Cheers,
Matt

hello everyone

i've been a 313 lurker for somewhere around 5 years now, and i've had a
radio show for a couple of years longer than that. it's been on friday
nights since i can remember, starting at 11 pm central since 1999. we
broadcast over the web at www.wnur.org. normally my show covers a range
of electronic music (primarily house, techno, downtempo, and idm) from the
1990s to the present, with an occasional dip back into the 1980s.
generally i try to include something from each of the various camps that
have been making great music (imho), and i've attempted to mix as much of
it live as possible.

the following week the show will make a historic split, and for a lesson
in history and diversity, you won't want to miss the return of matt
macqueen to the airwaves. he'll do the show every other week or so from
that point onwards. so as long as the radio station doesn't catch on to
the fact that i've graduated, we'll bring you a very broad range of
sounds, current and classic, every friday night.

Wasn't it also released on one of the New Electronica compilations? The

Yep. Good stuff overall I thought - it got a little relentless, pounding and
samey towards the end but there were plenty of good and exciting moments.
First time I've been out dancing to proper techno for a while, and Martin
Rubadub's selection was superb as usual...

[313] Some records

2002-02-25 Thread Jonny McIntosh
Before embarking on my abject poverty induced odyssey of beans and toast, I
blew what little cash I have on these records:

Larry Heard "Praise [Remixes]" (US Trackmode)
I already bigged this one up, but I'll do it again. Larry Heard's own Tribal
Remix is a stormer: it wouldn't be out of place on "Another Side", or as a
Kenny Larkin track. I haven't even listened to the other mixes, and this is
one of those expensive Trackmode imports (8.49UKP?!).

Donnie "Excerpts From The Colored Section EP" (US Giant Steps)
I guess these are taken from the forthcoming album, and hence I imagine it's
going to be great. Donnie does sound just like Stevie Wonder, but he's got
some pretty handy tunes of his own. Check out "Cloud 9" to see.

Dana Byrd "Your Love" (US Wave)
Pal Joey production and it shows: tip top saxophone lines and a great vocal.
The Danny Krivit edit is a bit sloppy - he's trying to draw out the sax and
hit you with the vocal, but there's no adventure in it. Stick to the
original - a blinder!

Block 16 feat. Jon Lucien "Morning Sun" (UK Nuphonic)
French house has got tons of talented folk releasing excellent stuff right
now: Jabre, Gregory, DJ Deep, I Cube etc. And also Pepe Bradock, who
provides the excellent remixes of this tune featuring Caribbean crooner
Lucien.

Jazzanova "That Night" (DE Compost)
This is great. I imagine it'd be even better with a Theo Parrish remix on
the flip, but it's so close to that style (if a "bigger" production) who
cares? Until I get bored of the slightly too pop vocal from Vikter Duplaix,
I won't. You might like the actual flip, anyway.

What aboutchoo?

JM.

then choose in the combo box a music style I recommnd the house style

[313] Lady Aida interview @ technotourist dot org

2002-02-25 Thread Jongsma, K.J.
Hi,

We have added an interview with one of Hollands leading techno DJ's, Lady
Aida to our website. She is an excellent DJ, she writes her column for a big
dutch music magazine and her clubnight (Fluid) in her hometown Eindhoven is
one of the longest running clubnights in Holland.

For those of you who don't have a clue who she is (proberly 95% of you :))
we have added to DJ mixes from her to our website. One of them is recorded
live at Fluid, the other one shows the state of the dutch techno scene, so
one mix with only dutch artists.

read and listen here:
http://technotourist.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req
=viewarticle&artid=10

or:
http://technotourist.org and click on 'Interviews' and select 'Lady Aida'

Enjoy!

Following on from that, maybe some of the Dutch and Belgian contingent on
here may be able to help...

I heard a mix by a female Dutch DJ called 100% Esis (or something like that)
on London's Kiss FM a couple of years back which mixed the likes of 16b,
Mills and others in a quick half hour mix. Anybody heard of her or seen her
play?

Cheers

More info at her website:
http://www.djisis.nl/

She's usually dismissed by purists for being too clubby, so I was quite
surprised to see that her recent mix-CD contained a lot of this-listy
tracks (Heath Brunner, Octave One, Vince Watson, Luke Slater, Technasia).

Ive just recently converted the single 120+ min Kenny Larkin mix
into two seperate .mp3 files: One is 74:00 and the other is 47:46,
so now you can save them and burn them! You can grab them
from Audiogalaxy or Morpheus. Filenames are 'Kenny Larkin -
Live DJ Set - Part 1 of 2' and '...Part 2 of 2' .mp3, respectively.
