I've heard that too (just didn't want to be the first to say it... heh), she was in Chicago a couple of years ago at Excalibur or Aura, I think... a couple of my friends went and were really disappointed with her DJ performance. M, but she and Deee-lite sure put out some good tracks though. She was quite the diva. Everyone remembers "Groove Is In The Heart," but my personal fave would have to be "What Is Love." :) Matt E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web Site: http://www.magicmattkelly.com > I hear she can't DJ worth a lick though;-) > > Cheers, > > m* - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You you can definitely put Kier in the column of good ones... Used to see her out here in NYC a lot back in the nineties...she is such a sweetie. RE: [313] miss kier...
There were some releases on Gerald's Juice Box Label that were definetley headed in the drum and bass direction. The tempo was a lot slower than it is these days but faster than you standard house tune. He probably invented the "drum and bass" genre (along w/ 4hero) Sort of intelligent 'ardkore >-- Original Message -- >Date: Wed, 08 May 2002 16:06:56 -0400 >To: FC3 Richards <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, >"'313@hyperreal.org'" <313@hyperreal.org> >From: Eric Scuccimarra <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Subject: RE: [313] miss kier... > > >As far as I know, a Guy Called Gerald has been doing jungle only since he > >released "Black Secret Technology" in 1995... [313] bob brown in urb
i discovered bob brown while i was living in philly...he's just excellent both in technical skill and personality...a friend just sent me this article that came out in urb about him last month...if you ever, ever get a chance to catch him live i would do so. -kathleen VINYLADDICTS Bob Brown AGE: 25 HOME BASE: Philadelphia, PA STYLE: Techno with soul DJING HOW LONG: Almost 10 years EQUIPTMENT: Three Technics 1200s, three Electrix EQ killers and a Rane 2016 Rotary mixer. For production, I do it all on my Apple Powerbook and my Yamaha NS-10Ms. FIRST PARTY DJED: Something I put together at a teen club called Fascinations in my hometown of Medina, OH. It was in 1992 when I was 16. This club was normally all commercial, but I talked to the owner and he let me play on a Friday. All 15 of my friends showed up. I finished with The Smiths' "Panic." INFLUENCES: My earliest influences were industrial guys like Alien Sex Fiend and Front 242. Then I heard 808 State's "Cubik" -- still aggressive, but more user-friendly.Then I went through a two-year phase where all I listened to was techno. Then I stated listening to hip-hop, old house and acid house and experimental noise like Zoviet France. FAVORITE MUSICAL ARTIST: Prince ONE RECORD THAT NEVER LEAVES HIS BOX: Richard Bartz' "Subway" on Kanzlerampt ON STARTING PHILLY'S FAMED FLIGHT TECHNO PARTIES: We found a concert hall that was willing to do a midnight-to-6 a.m. party. We had phenomenal talent: Theresidents included myself, Mace (a 10 year veteran of the decks), Mr. Kleen from Satellite and this local jack-of-all trades, Alexander/Adrock. Add guests like DJ Skull Hyperactive, Adam X and Dave Clarke, and you have what was the best techno talent in this country and abroad every week on a consistent basis. ON THE PHILLY TECHNO SCENE: During the days of Flight, Philly was on the forefront as far as techno parties. We were the first to bring a lot of acts to the East Coast, like Chris Sattinger and Regis. Soon enough, things changed, and now I am still bringing talent out, but the parties now are for 100 instead of 2,000. Once Philadelphia started enforcing its laws about clubs not staying open past 2 a.m., the scene has had to either go underground or use commercial venues and close at 2a.m. DREAM GIG: A bunch of screaming, dancing maniacs who beg for each record and thank me after the set when I've just played all the songs I wanted to hear. I love those dreams! SECRET TO A GOOD MIXTAPE: Forget about what a mix-tape is "supposed" to sound like and just let it rip. CAREER HIGHLIGHT: A close tie: the time I was in Glasgow, [Scotland,] for my first gig and stumbled upon huge posters with my name on them all around the city, or when I played in Albufeira, Portugal at Locomia [www.locomiaclub.com] until the sun started to rise over the private beach. [313] metro area show
just wanted to give an update on what happened at the MA london show. first off, sorry to anyone who left after the show stopped initially- the audio interface (828) decided to die completely right in the middle of the first track. it was totally mysterious and obviously completely unexpected...about an hour later, standing outside the club, trying to figure out whether there was any way the show could still happen, darshan and some of the people who were putting on the night came trotting around the corner, 828 in tow- it turns out that lady miss keir of dee-lite fame(!), who happened to be close by, had one in her studio and was gracious enough to lend it. it was a miracle that one turned up close to 2am! it was great to see such a receptive, vocal crowd and hopefully the people who stayed enjoyed the show in its entirety. let this be an example of all the work that still goes on behind a laptop live show...i honestly think organzing a small orchestra of dyslexic chimpanzees would have been easier than putting that set together. -ana Date: 06 May 2002 13:16 Subject: [313] Some new records, Metro Area live & football anthems Swimming". > >Went to see Metro Area at Plastic People but it didn't all go according to >plan. DO you plan to drink more that $30 in free pop? Or are clean bathrooms (at least slightly less dirty) that important. Or spending you day in a 'backstage' holding pen. I would definately spend that $30 on something better, like an afterparty. On Tue, 7 May 2002, Aaron Reed wrote: > So anyone have an opinion on the "all excess" VIP passes for DEMF? During. It came out after or contemporary with Domina, BC-08 and near the same time as M4. Circonium does not have a year for Domina, but I got mine around '94-'95, BC-08 is listed as '94 and M4 is listed as '95. Deep Space came out in '95 on R&S, although I think the Metroplex version of Starlight may have been released in '94. I'm having trouble digging up a detailed Metroplex discog, although there are a few that list bare bones info on the releases. I just stumbled across: http://www.juanatkins.com which cites the release of his new CD on Metroplex @ DEMF this year. The site seems very much under construction at the moment though. Anyway, I'm geared up about that CD. :) Tristan --- http://www.mp313.com <- Music http://www.metrotechno.net <- DC techno + more http://www.metatrackstudios.com <- DC DJ/Production studios http://phonopsia.tripod.com <- Hub [EMAIL PROTECTED] <- email - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
