[313] NYC Reminder: Aavikko @ Knitting Factory 8/1
I was raving about these guys after they played here (Iowa City) last Saturday, and I'll say it again -- Aavikko is an absolutely great live band. Like Kraftwerk and Booker T jamming on Klezmer and Russian Disco. I guess VHS OR BETA is an Electroclash sort of thing; Aavikko isn't really Electro, but they do have uniforms with shiny piping ;-) Knitting Factory 9PM with VHS or BETA $8 cheap - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The party is mostly electroclash, which I'm generally not feelin' so much right now, but Elliot pulled out a really nice set. His mix from Join in the Chant into God-knows-what was really impressive. I don't know if I've heard two songs that were meant to mix better. He snuck some Detroit electro in for good measure too. :) Very nice! He played at something called th Nothing Hil Art club What a typo :) I'm in Nothing Hell 5 days a week and that's enough for me. It smells of wee. Blah blah blah, moan moan, got me slippers, got me cat, slippers again... Seriously though, if you and Nicole hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have known. And I work directly opposite. I suspect that's why most folk didn't go. That and none of us like good music in London. And it *does* smell of wee in Notting Hill. [313] Fw: Peacefrog Records special on BBC Radio 1 tonight
Got this from Ian O'Brien earlier today Just to let you know Paul Thomas' One World show will be hosting a Peacefrog Records special tonight on BBC Radio 1 between 12-2am. In addition to lots of current and classic tunes from Peacefrog's back catalogue, Paul will be chatting with Peacefrog's directors about the past and the future of Peacefrog. They've never done a radio show before, so I'm sure their patter will be well rubbish and good for a laugh. In fact, web TV/Radio guides like mydigiguide.com have the show listed as 'sitcom' so they must have heard it already! ___ Freeserve AnyTime, only £13.99 per month with one month's FREE trial! Speaking of Peacefrog, anyone else got hold of RH's first (I believe) 12 licensed to Peacefrog? Who Taught You Math (no question mark!). The title track's a rare departure from his minimalist staple output and sounds more like the Nightime World material, but with a much wider spectrum of emotiveness ... the B side's just as good but is a lot more characteristically tough minimal. [313] records to be had
OK, so I realize if I am take this DJ vocation seriously I should begin assembling techno records en masse. So far I've been spare in my use of already meager funds for purchases of music. However, I've taken a decisive turn in my way of thinking, choosing to immerse myself in the culture/artform at every given opportunity. If money need be spent, so be it, I do so happily. On that note, what essential Basic Channel releases would you recommend? And beyond that, what are some of the classics I need to be schooled in to be considered an informed member of the community? Yes, I know this list has the potential to be large, but besides feeling my own way through, I'd like some sagacious guidance. Thus far my heroes are Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood and Derrick May. I like my techno hard deep and funky but will never forsake the spiritual element. Help is much appreciated. On that note, what essential Basic Channel releases would you recommend? mauritzio 'domina' (x2 for devastating effect on big systems) and c4/c4.5 are my favesphylips track 2 is also especially fine. m6 and main st. 'round3' go nicely together too oh yeah and scion emerge (the first(?) chain reaction) is also recommended. please ignore spelling mistakes in the above :) robin... - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] new rob hood and some other records to pick up
The next one on ray gun should be good aswell - because it's by me! john (dimension 5) Another one to check out is the new Dan Curtin Redcrash ep on Raygun. A very nice deep soulful 3 tracker for Dan. This is my favorite thing he has done in quite some time. So those of you who lost interest in Dan's music, pick this one up...it's classic Dan. Gotta chime in too for the new Iridite 12 One more than one...this is really something unique. Sounds very Detroit but with a different interpretation. odes to M500 infoworld too with some like sounds. also some others I heard that were interesting was this new Derrick Carter 12 on Igloo...this one will be a hit type record. Also the new Joshua on Seasons is also one to check out. And if you like more soulful stuff check out the new Hanna LP on Trackmode. minto dL music http://downlowmusic.org upcoming in Sept: Arne Weinberg Beauty in Decay dL008 Convextion dLVEXT1 Oct: dL ltd tribute 12 Nov: Polarius 12 dL009 Dec/Jan: The Connection Machine CDLP Dec/Jan: Dan Curtin 12 dL010 __ Do You Yahoo!? In addition to lots of current and classic tunes from Peacefrog's back catalogue, Paul will be chatting with Peacefrog's directors about the past and the future of Peacefrog. They've never done a radio show before, so I'm sure their patter will be well rubbish and good for a laugh. So far I've been spare in my use of already meager funds for purchases of music.
