its great to see a whole new generation of DJ's discovering the funky
electronic sounds of Nitzer Ebb. especially the tracks Murderous and Join
in the Chant :^)
which Minstry was played? The Nature of Love is their most techno-y track
I can think of.

Marco Carola's new weekly club night
@ Propaganda, 201 Wardour Street, London, W1

Launch Night Thursday September 5th

With Resident DJs:
Marco Carola (Zenit/Question)
Mark Broom (Pure Plastic)
Terry Mitchell (Dark House Music)

Plus Special Guest:
Gaetano Parisio (Conform/Naples)

Presenting System - Marco Carola's new weekly club venture.

Every Thursday, Marco and fellow System residents - Mark Broom and Terry
Mitchell, will be giving Central London a dose of the best techno, electro
and house around. This is the first time that Marco Carola has held a club
residency in London, and he'll be making the most of the opportunity to
showcase some world-class guest DJs and live acts from around the world -
playing on a state of the art sound system in one of London's coolest
venues.

The club venue itself is located in the basement beneath the Propaganda bar.
It's licensed for 500 people, which will make for an intimate and intense
atmosphere. The space is divided into 3 separate rooms - a main room,
secondary room and VIP room. The club has 3 bars and is air-conditioned.

Naples-born Marco Carola has been a key player in the techno scene since the
mid-nineties, gaining worldwide respect as a producer - notably with the
start of his Design label. Parallel to this, his reputation as a DJ of high
calibre grew almost in tandem. Marco was instrumental in putting Italian
techno on the map, and helped bring attention to fellow producers such as
Gaetano Parisio and Gadgets.
His 1000 imprint (limited to 1000 copies of each release) further ensured
that he was a regular fixture in record boxes internationally, and from that
he went on to set-up his Zenit imprint, and also Question - a label which
represented the deeper edge to the techno sound. Currently residing in
London, Marco's impressive skills as a DJ are still very much in demand
across the globe. However, System is a project that he intends to dedicate
much attention to.

Fellow System resident, Mark Broom, is one of the most well regarded DJ /
Producers in the UK - and one to whom the word 'underrated' often gets
attributed. He is the man behind Pure Plastic where he records both under
his own name and, along with Dave Hill, as the massively popular Rue East
outfit. As a DJ, he clocks up the Air Miles, and has held residencies at
Belgium's Fuse club as well as his current residency at one of Spain's
premier techno nights - La Real. Mark's versatility as a DJ is one of his
main assets, and he'll be bringing this to the table at System.

Last, but by no means least, is Terry Mitchell - a long-standing player on
the London techno scene. As boss of Dark House Music, Terry brought the
world the acclaimed Trackhead series, amongst other projects. Terry's
musical roots lie with electro, hip-hop and a deep love of Chicago house,
and these elements are apparent in his funky, jacking DJ-style. He's guested
at clubs such as Fabric, The End, B.A.S.E, as well as regular trips abroad
to spin with some of the biggest names on the international circuit. With
Terry onboard, this will further concrete System's reputation as THE techno
club night in London.

Hello all. I have a certain question concerning a certain record I
purchased a couple of months ago. The label simply reads 'Confuser' and
bears the names Tobias Marco. For the longest time I had no inkling as
to
what the origin of this album truly was. As serendipity would have it, I
was mindlessly leafing through an old issue of URB the other night, and lo
and behold I see the name Confuser 1 in the reviews section. (If I
remember
correctly, the guest columnist was Regis.) From what I gathered the
artists
responsible were none other than Tobias Schmidt and Marco Carola. Is this
correct? The tracks are amalgamations of samples from classic house and
techno tracks. Am I way off base here? Now, was this a one shot deal, or
the beginning of a continued series? And is Confuser simply a project
name
or a label spinoff? Thanks in advance for the inside scoop.

   Rusty

Hello all. I have a certain question concerning a certain record I
purchased a couple of months ago. The label simply reads 'Confuser' and
bears the names Tobias Marco. For the longest time I had no inkling as to
what the origin of this album truly was. As serendipity would have it, I
was mindlessly leafing through an old issue of URB the other night, and lo
and behold I see the name Confuser 1 in the reviews section. (If I remember
correctly, the guest columnist was Regis.) From what I gathered the artists
responsible were none other than Tobias Schmidt and Marco Carola. Is this
correct? The tracks are amalgamations of samples from classic house and
techno tracks. Am I way off base here? Now, was this a one shot deal, or
the beginning of a continued series? And is Confuser simply a project name
or a label spinoff? Thanks in advance for the inside scoop.

  Rusty

2002-08-15 Thread james boylan

I've got confuser 001 - if it is Marco Carola, it doesn't sound like him
as it's got a rough edge to it and his productions are usually quite
crisp-sounding. However I've not heard any Tobias Schmidt records so

Scmhidt's record are generally 'rough'and excellent, imho.

RE: [313] KDJ

-Original Message-
Pls recommend me good dance floor KDJ records (the more up-tempo ones
 without soulful vocals)

 - shades of jae [kdj 21]
 - the thief that stole my sad days [kdj 25]
 - analog live [kdj 28]
 - don't be misled
 - all andres releases

Good suggestions! I was going to say Shades of Jae may be his most uptempo cut
(except for maybe analog live?). Also I would add a couple of his tracks on
peacefrog: Mahogany Brown and also the 12 with Telephone Blue on it (and
whatever the untitled track on the other side is it good too). Then there's
also U Can Dance if U Want 2... all prince cut-ups but pretty uptempo and some
are pretty aggressive, and not disco sounding at all (to me). And Dem Young
Sconies (sp?) on Planet E, which I think someone else already mentioned. That
track mixes well with just about everything: italo, techno, house, disco, even
has that Nitzer Ebb kind of great simple raw bassline... very versatile track!

OK someone tell what the Moodymann in my wagon 12 sounds like on Peacefrog??

and while we're on Peacefrog, what are the couple of Ron Trent releases on the
label like? I've fallen hopelessly behind with the Peacefrog lately, too much
to keep up...

Peace,
Matt

to keep perspective, you must consider that, to some, a lack of tangible
emotion in a track will instill a feeling of minimalizm or desolation.

reminds me of the ride from east side to southfield on i-75

the beginning of a continued series? And is Confuser simply a project name
or a label spinoff? Thanks in advance for the inside scoop.

I'm assuming they're referring to Ghetto Tech or Botty music. ie. Dj Assault

...is that what you wanted to know?

So I take it from this line of responses (well, only two) that I'm not to
get an answer to my inquiry. Is it now anathema to mention Italian
DJ/producers or persons who didn't personally know Ken Collier?

Maybe I'm just out of the loop, for I had never heard of G-Tech until this
very moment. I know nothing about it.

And is Confuser simply a project name
or a label spinoff? Thanks in advance for the inside scoop.

2002-08-15 Thread robin pinning

 What is G-Tech?
I've noticed that 313 seems to be a lot more on the house vibe these days.
 And everybody hates loops now.
I personally don't see what's offensive about a bunch of nice minimal loops.
(Of course some techno DJs are boring I agree...)

i think to make the most of 'looped bangers' you have to have three decks
and skills to match (a feel for what frequencies you should be using etc
etc for a start)not all techno DJs have these skills and just play
3mins of looped banging and then a quick 8bar mix and another loop record,
this is why looped records have a bad name imo

Re: [313] confused about confuser

2002-08-15 Thread David Powers

Well, I'd say I somewhat agree, although not totally.

1. I think it can be done on two decks... but the mixing has to be
pretty quick certainly. Not letting records just play out but really
mixing and playing around with them.
2. Not all looped bangers are equally interesting! Some records may be
looped but, have, say, a bassline that is just sick. Or just one little
thing, such as a string part, that fades in slowly and gives it that
certain feeling. I tend to look for records that are certainly mostly
looped bangers but have that one thing that makes them dramatic and
memorable in some way.
3. There are a lot of different textures within minimal techno and
banging drumtrax records. To me a big problem with boring techno sets
is often that they display no variation in the overall texture as they
progress. To me things should move in a gradual way to different
places. I notice with the overabundance of tribal tracks that the all
tribal texture can definitely get boring if not mixed with other flavors.
4. There is a way to mix in more minimal records which makes them seem
more dramatic, good DJs do this. Of course working the FX well helps on
this too.

just some comments, I think this is pretty 313 relevant since Detroit
has its own share of this techno!

It is on a label called 'Future Monument' and is by an

excellent detroit inspired techno house!

the tracks are :

A1 : Evidence
A2 : Cosmic Jive

B1 : Flash'n'Fowlkes
B2 : Danceteria

the cat number is : FMT-005

any more info on this label and artist would be great!

p.s. the track to get by marco carolla is mantrain.
great dark techno that builds to F*$k! there were some
mad tracks released around the period of 96-97
similiar , labelled sci fi house by some.
